Old Boys' School House was built in the the 17th Century, housing and educating the sons of royals and wealthy families. The building went through several revisions before its current state, including the addition of an entire wing to the structure, as well as the pool house, which was previously used as a boarding house. The building is a magnificent sight to see, with its lush green grasses, beautiful roses and rippling fountain setting the foreground for this ravishing piece of architecture.

The interior truly is one-of-a-kind, with every room using a unique wood, luxurious metal, or polished stone. With efforts to retain the most significant features of the original 17th Century building, the grand staircase remains, with it's awe-inspiring wood balustrading and marble stairs. A plethora of suites emerge as you walk through the halls, decorated in only the finest of materials. Old Boys' School House manages to retain many of its original features, however, it makes the greatest use of today's modern technology

The subtle gardens on the property give a great sense of modern-day living, but within a stunningly elegant structure. The pool house is connected to the main house via a gravel path, that has remained on the property for over 300 years. The grand lawns are manicured regularly to maintain the exquisite greens they so proudly show off, the rose gardens tended so that only the most beautiful roses are left to capture the eyes of everyone and everything. To the smallest detail, Old Boys' School House remains as it did when it was first opened to welcome young boys from over the world, but or course, with a few minor improvements.

Kristen Keg’s Pub

By: CoreyCanadian

Kristen Keg comes from a long line of bar owners, so it was only natural for her to open her own bar when she was older. Unlike the rest of the family bars, Kristen’s was made for the people and not the fame. She wanted to make sure that everyone who came to her pub had a great time.

This pub includes a karaoke machine, pool table, two bars, nectar racks, comfortable seating and a fun atmosphere for sims to let their hair down, or hang out or maybe have a first romance.

Eye Candy Salon and Boutique Eye Candy Salon and Boutique is housed in a beautiful brownstone apartment building that was converted to salon suites. In an effort to provide the most complete experience ever, Eye Candy offers not only a full service salon, but a daycare to watch over your little ones while you pamper yourself.

By: Lissykin

While the little ones are having fun, the teens and adults can relax by the fountain, or go shopping for the latest fashions in the boutique downstairs. If your Sim is feeling more daring, take them to the basement for a tattoo in the rocked out salon of Tattooed Ladies.

Eye Candy doesn’t just care for the Sims in your home, but for your pets as well. The pet grooming shop, located on the second floor, offers clips and shampoos as well as a pet examination room (veterinarian not included) to help with any questions or concerns regarding your pet.

Sims that find employment at Eye Candy will be satisfied. The staff room is fully stocked for breaks and offers washers and dryers to clean all those towels. To experience relaxation at its finest, stop by Eye Candy Salon and Boutique today!

Starlight Shores Movie Studio With the addition of the Late Night Expansion pack to the Sims 3 Line up back in October 2010, Sim players were given something that many of them had been longing for: a chance for their Sims to become Rich and Famous. The most obvious way to achieve this was by having one’s Sim join the Film career and go to work every day at Plumbob Pictures Backlot. When the Showtime expansion pack was released and we were given the lush town of Starlight Shores with its Southern California vibe, it seemed that this place would be a natural fit for our Stars and Starlets of the Film Industry.

By: Originalsim

It even looked as if EA left us 75 Los Suenos Strip as the perfect spot to drop Plumbob Pictures Backlot on to. Unfortunately, there are two glaring problems with being able to do this. The first is that the vacant lot has a measurement of 60x60 but Plumbob Pictures is a 64x64 lot. The second problem is that the urban feel that works so well in Bridgeport doesn’t work quite as well in Starlight Shores.

Something new had to be created. Starlight Shores Movie Studio aims to bring back a little bit of the Golden Age of Film when Actors and Actresses were celebrated as Silver Screen Titans and the studios they were contracted to provided their every need. This is a studio that need not be tucked away in the corner of town, but a structure your citizens won’t mind having in their skyline.

House Helpers ‘R’ Us! Club Edition

Mick’s Master Karaoke by WibbleLikeAJelly For a venue that prides itself on being the Master of Karaoke, Mick’s Master Karaoke isn’t exactly that. The dark rooms, awkward layout and dated décor are sure to turn some heads… out of the building and straight away from the door. Luckily, help was at hand as I was called in to rescue this poor building by the proprietor, Laurel Worthington. My first impressions of the building were more Olde English Tavern than Chic Asian Venue. It was this that made me decide to get rid of the stucco/wood combo on the walls, and quick. After combining some original knowledge with a bit of research through the Los Sueños Design Archives, I settled on some new wall-tiles, this time: wood only. To me, they diffuse the feeling of being outdoors, which I believe is one of the key principals of Asian design. The floor -tiles also got a matching upgrade. No longer Cherry Red, the rich, natural tones are clean, modern and sure to draw in crowds.

But hang on, isn’t the most important part of a venue to change the actual content and not just the color of the walls? Thankfully, I didn’t stop there in my renovations. While the stage was adequate, the treatment performers were given access to was not. For this reason, I felt it necessary to spring the floor plan around slightly to include a private dressing room, and stage access to every Diva’s most important room, the bathroom.

The bathrooms themselves before the makeover were nothing short of ugly. I took a slight risk in this area with the black-and-accentcolor strategy, but I think it paid off.

Upstairs, apart from some scary-looking man playing arcade games, I could see no-one who felt like going up. The space was dominated by a viewing gallery for performances, and I knew that couldn’t change, but I also knew that I was not one to shy away from a challenge. Again, I changed the layout slightly, moving the actual karaoke upstairs to place emphasis on the performers downstairs, and around it I created a relaxing party-suite. I stood by on opening night to see what the effects of my makeover would be, and (not quite) to my surprise it was a success! The bar was now home to a proper Mixologist, and the new karaoke suite was attracting some eager singers already. Satisfied with my work, I walked off into the night in a clichÊd manner, ready to tackle another challenge next time.

MN8 by Sarademoor MN8 is not a too bad place. It’s got a bit of an industrial look going on. Only the ragtag furniture looks like it came from different garage sales. It’s nice for a Youth house, but the adult Sim has some other expectations. Let’s see if we get it to look a little more clean cut. First of all I emptied out everything. The brick wall was nice, I only lightened it up a little. I also added a new bar, with more spaces to sit. The new sleek metallic color seems to work as this Hipster Sim immediately found his way to the new bar!

Some hipper color choices for the rest rooms, to fit the Industrial theme better. I also got rid of the garage doors. Now your Sims can enjoy their drinks without being afraid a car may drive in at any given time! This set up for the upstairs bar was pretty good as it was. Just some hipper, cooler colors and some new upholstery for the chairs. I find animal prints a good choice in this kind of establishment. Top down view of the end result. In my eyes a much more coherent whole with matching furniture this time. The stage is also re-done. It has a more Urban flair to it now and is ready to host your best singers. With a few simple changes one can completely transform a place!

Rodeo -Go-Go by Originalsim Rodeo-Go-Go had an Old Western Saloon vibe going for it already, but it was sparsely decorated and had a bit of an awkward flow to it, especially on the second floor. Though many of us have an idea of saloons as fairly rough and tumble kind of places where shoot outs and brawls took place, they were actually very elegant and perhaps a bit over decorated. The

Pets and Late Night EPs were the greatest help in making this themed club a tiny bit more authentic. On the lower level a Late Night bar replaced the old one and was relocated to the wall where the fire place once stood. Saloon doors from the Pets EP were used as entrances to the newly created dressing rooms on either side of the stage.

The stage itself was given a new look with the Steampunk stage props, the Flowing Banderole (Store item) and the Gothic Glamour Living room-Textophobia Taunts Wall Sculpture (Store Item). The Buck & Chuck Bronco was relocated to create a more intimate and saloon feeling seating area where Sims can sit and visit with one and other. Arcade machines were added to

Because of the placement of items on the first floor, the open area above the bar and stage seating became much smaller. This allowed for better placement of the second floor items such as the pool and Foosball tables (once an empty room was removed), and the Buck & Chuck Bronco. It also allowed for a balcony VIP table overlooking the stage. A food register from World Adventures was also added to the second floor allowing Sims to make good use of the tables that are scattered about.

One of the frustrating things about the Showtime EP is that the bars in a Live Venue don’t function as they should. By re-categorizing the lot as a Local Watering Hole, an option given to us with Late Night, the NPC Bartender will perform their full functions offering an array of specialty drinks and Bar Food. The stage itself is what spawns a Proprietor and Gigs can still be booked by Performers. At the end of this remodel Rodeo-Go-Go is still isn’t quite an authentic saloon, but our Sims are modern creatures who require virtual electricity and the things that it powers to keep them entertained and having a good time.

By: Missoroxor

Many a musician started out their careers jamming with their friends in their parent’s garage. Well, when my self-sim, Maggie, made it big she decided to go back to her roots and build herself a recording studio, this time above her own 3-car, deluxe showroom garage.

Ok, so maybe it’s not as humble as when she started out but she’s earning big bucks now, why not spend them, right?! Maggie is such a big fan of our magazine she kindly agreed to represent the music careers by showing us around her home studio.

One of the most important parts of Maggie’s studio is the sound booth. Maggie’s is just 3x4 tiles which is big enough to fit the microphone , and a spare guitar and stool in case Maggie decides to do her acoustic rendition of “Who Let the Dogs Out?”

Another important aspect of any recording studio is the control desk which Maggie reliably informs me is “a mish-mash of buttons and knobs with lots of gadgety looking things”. There’s plenty of “gadgety looking things” from mp3 players and data storage drives stereo systems and computers which handily means this room can double as a home office. Finish the look with some cd clutter, speakers and sound sensor lights.

That’s all the technical stuff but of course Maggie needed a lounge area so she can make people sit and listen to her warble, er...I mean, have friends over to enjoy the creativity. Right next to the sofa is Maggie’s collection of stringed instruments. Well, there’s no point spending thousands of simoleons on dead celebrity’s iconic instruments if you’re gonna put them where nobody will see them, is there?! Likewise, Maggie’s collection of awards are displayed “unpretentiously” in that way that celebrities do that says, “I don’t really care that I won all these accolades but I’ll ‘toss’ them haphazardly right by the door where you have to walk by and see them.”

Darren’s mentor, Candy and Ashley’s mentor, Maniac were thrilled their models were picked for this issue! They worked extremely hard and were rewarded with an all expense paid trip to Twinbrook and Starlight Shores, where the two of them tried out some new talents. Ashley discovered a love for magic and Darren tried to mix it up on stage for the people of Starlight Shores. The two of them will never forget how much fun they had exploring all these two cities had to offer.

By: Candygurl84 So many things come to my mind when I think of summer, like water, flowers, and bright colors. These are a few of the things I used for my inspiration when creating this summer collection. Also, I did Google trendy summer clothes and I browsed a few fashion websites to get my ideas in order. I love the marine look, navy blue and white stripes are great for summer. I used stripes on several of my outfits, I think stripes look amazing and summery on male and female sims alike. And what sim doesn't love pretty summer dresses?

Dresses with floral patterns and bright colors or a preppy red and white polka dot dress are sure to keep your sims cute and cool this summer. I used bright colors and fun patterns for my swimwear. I know my sims love swimming and spend a lot of time at the pool. So cute ,trendy swimwear is a must.

Showtime Expansion Pack

The Sims 3 Buyer’s Guide By Zulie23, VamPanda and Typicalgemini Pictures by Jessu and MissElpheba

Overview: Overall the Showtime Expansion Pack is a lot of new game play as well as content. If you like new clothing, hairstyles and furniture, then this game is certainly a must have. The new careers are fun and make game play a lot more interesting. Simport is fun if you have the patience to wait for it to work. The new interactions, town and venues make Showtime a worth wild Expansion Pack. If you have the Late Night Expansion Pack, this would be a great game to add to that. In this review we will talk about Simport, Venues, the three performance careers, Buy/Build Objects and many more.

Create A Sim: Create a Sim, more commonly known as “CAS” is filled with outfits that are perfect for Everyday, Formal, Career and even Swimwear! Many thought that Showtime would be too much like Late Night and there are some similarities as the urban outfits are perfect for the new town, Starlight Shores! There was such a wide variety and large amount of clothes; it was hard to choose what to wear! The women’s outfits were very close to today’s styles and even went above and beyond. The stencils were amazing and reflected today’s pop culture, which is what this EP focuses on. However, I did notice that one of the shirts is the exact same mesh as in Late Night, but with added stencils. Although it makes them more appealing to have more stencils, it makes me wonder if the Sims development team is beginning to run out of creative ideas for CAS. For the men, there are more fitted clothing and added variety to the earrings! There are outfits that look good too, which keeps you from the dilemma of matching shirts and pants; which I always have a hard time doing. The only problem I have with the men’s wear would be that the outfits from Showtime aren’t all grouped together. The hairs are much more detailed now, too, showing not-too-perfect hairs that reflect our messy hair in real life.

Venues

Build/ Buy

Worried that your sparkly new venues will just be a waste? Let me tell you they will not go to waste. The new venues given in Showtime are not just about performing and making some money. They are functional for other aspects of your sims lives, even when there isn't a show going on.

Let’s begin with the build items shall we? The windows and doors are divine! They have the nice open feeling, perfect for a more beach/nature type home. They also fit the theme of Starlight Shores more suburban areas, giving the houses a nice artistic feel. One of my favorite items is the "Spanish Colonial Double Door". This door has a nice curved wooden frame, and instead of glass in the door panels, has some beautifully crafted wrought iron curls. The style of the windows and doors defiantly give a feel of grandeur and luxury. They also recolor well, meaning you can make them go with pretty much any house you want.. The build catalogue also has two new fences and gates to fit the new architecture. These have a classy modern feel, and will really spruce up your sims gardens.

This Expansion Pack has a variety of venues from Parks, to Coffee Houses to Live Show Venues. The possibilities are endless when it comes to the venues and what they each offer. The best part about the venues is being able to set up your own stage for your sims performances. This EP comes with an array of items to help you customize your stage. It really does take decorating to a whole new level. Adding these venues to some of the other Sim towns would make your gameplay a whole lot more fun. Who wouldn’t want a Coffee House in their town?

Speaking of gardens, Showtime also offers a nice new selection of trees, beautiful palm trees to be precise. I sense a lot of Sunset Valley make-overs for those who do not want to play Starlight Shores. And rightly so, these lovely features will look great in Sunset valley! The buy items are just as fresh and new as EA have given us two different styles of furniture. Yes two whole new styles! The style I’m going to look at first is what I am going to call our "Princess" style. This set is defiantly for the diva in us. The feel of the items are almost like a royal affair. Each item has been well thought out, carrying through the artistic feel to deliver some brand new items that are just inspiring. EA have done an amazing job on this set. Let’s take the chairs for example. Plush comfy cushions held in a case of ironwork that works its way around delicately to create a cup for the cushions to lounge in, almost as if the chair is being held up by some shiny metallic vines. And the feeling of grandeur continues to the glass top tables that go with the set. If you like your homes to have an expensive feel, then this is the set for you!

The next style is more of a party/club type setting. Chairs, counters and bars oh my! Just to name a few. This set is bold and I mean very bold, from its hard angular shapes to its bright and colorful prints, your late night bars will never be the same again. This set gives an injection of fun into anyone’s life. The mix of open windows and doors, fresh new palm trees and this set just screams beach house. Beach party house at that. Boring poolside clubs will be a thing of the past!

Singers: First off, I will start with the singer career. Your sims start off only able to perform sing-a-grams. Opportunities will pop up saying that a certain sim would like a certain type of sing-a-gram performed. The actions are cute and humorous, but as your sim will be performing them for quite a while in your career, they can get a little tedious and boring. There are five venue types that your singer sims will be able to perform at. These are: Park, coffee house, Live show venue, Private venue and Big show venue. Your sims will start off being able to only get gigs at the park and later the coffeehouse as the proprietors will turn you down at the other venues.

As our sims progress through their career, they will be able to get gigs in the other venues, all the way up to the Big Show venue, where your sims will perform in front of a big crowd. This is a rewarding experience as you are able to look back on all of the progress your sims have made since they began. A cool feature is that other sims can throw stuff at the stage, these items will sometimes go into your singer's inventory (Free stuff!) Another bonus of playing through this career is that as you move up, you will unlock outfits for your sims to use. These will be set as your career outfit, but some are also available for everyday. However, after the first play-through of the career, you may begin to find it repetitive like I did.

Acrobats: The Acrobat Career is not as it would seem, it is not full of trapeze or other commonly known acrobatic acts. It’s, well, different! There is a lot more to the acrobat career than one might expect and it stays interesting and exciting through long periods of game-play. You start out as a mime with four interactions including: “Human Statue,” “Walking in the Wind” and “Pulling a Rope.” You perform on the street, which is perfect for these tricks. You continue to only Mime until level two, at which point you may get real gigs, like the other careers. You just climb up the career ladder from there; getting the Big Ball, the Ring of Fire and new interactions such as the Fire Baton, Contortions, and the ability to juggle! The Big Ball has the three interactions: “Ball-erina,” “Big Bounce,” “Balance Ball” and “Ball Der-Dash.” The Ring of Fire has: “Fire Balle,” “Fire-y Face-Plant” and “Fliptease.” All in all, the career is probably one of my favorites; giving you hilarious failures, amazing successes and never-ending surprises as your Sims level up. It may be the easiest new career to level up because it is the most interesting.

Magicians: The Magician Career is a bit better than expected. This does not mean that it is the best career though, as it doesn’t give you as many interactions and it is harder to accomplish. When you fail, it isn’t the type of failure advertised, so be warned! There are only three interactions available. They are fun the first few times, but get old easily. As you improve, you don’t get very impressive interactions until level three; another not-so impressive trick comes in at level six, and finally you receive the “Box of Danger” at level seven! Although it is easy to move up through the ranks, there aren’t many interactions/tricks available for the first five levels, which can cause one to lose interest quickly. The costumes are fun, but not the driving force behind the careers. All in all, this wasn’t my favorite career, nor do I recommend this being a deciding factor inwhether or not to buy Showtime.

Proprietors:

Sim Fest:

At level two of each new career you can get gigs at different locations around Starlight Shores! You start out at Verde Park and the Proprietor will sometimes refuse to give you a gig. When this happens, work on practicing your skills, leveling up and then go back. The next stage venues you get are the coffeehouses, where the Proprietors are generally easy to please after one or two auditions. They are very excited to see you again and it is easiest to get a steady gig there early on in your career. Between levels five and seven, you can perform at MN8, a medium size live venue. This is one of the less predictable venues as the Proprietors there really vary, so make sure your Sim rarely messes up on their simpler tricks, and has some practice for the more difficult tricks. At level 8, you start getting gigs at Live and Private venues, where the Proprietors are very hard to please. If your Sim has been very successful, you are almost sure to get gigs there. Also, Proprietors are not set, they are randomly selected at the start of your game so instead of just knowing a couple of Sims, it’s better to get to know as many Sims as possible so that you are more likely to know the standards.

Another new feature that come with Showtime is Sim-Fest. This is an event that will take place at performance venues around town where your sims that are part of the three new careers will go to battle it out and see who is the best. One sim from each profession will perform and so will your sim. At the end of the festival, the winner is announced by the host. I really love Sim-Fest and it's a really awesome way to show off your sims talent. If I were you I would practice and make sure you have great props so you can blow the crowd away. It’s a shame to be beaten out by someone else with a poor performance.

SimPort: This is a new feature in Showtime that allows

you to send sims in any of the three new careers (Singer, Acrobat, Magician) into other people's games, where they will perform in a specified venue. As you continue to use Simport, you will gain stamps. Collecting enough of these stamps will enable you to unlock new content and stage prop sets for your game. You can also host other people's sims in your game using Simport. You have to accept a request sent by that person and then their sims will arrive in your town to put on a performance. You will have the option to set up a custom stage for them, or you can just use the default stage already in that venue. During the performance, you can interact with the other player's sim by clicking on the stage and selecting an interaction available.

Once the performance is over, the sim will leave town and you will both receive a stamp. Simport is a great way to connect with your friends whilst playing sims 3, but it does have bad points. There are often times when the servers are down and you will not have access to Simport at all and instead you will be greeted with an error message. I speak from experience, as I have never been able to use Simport properly due to this. Despite what EA has said about CC not being able to get into your game via simport, it is not always true. Sometimes, if the player uses custom content in their game, it will creep in. This is not good for people that want a completely clean game or if the custom content is bad, it can cause problems within the game.

Pros & Cons: Pros:      

Three brand new careers New neighborhood New venues to play in Cool new objects and returning objects from past games Trendy new fashions and hairstyles New ways to connect with friends

Cons:    

Glitches with Simport Careers can become repetitive New world is rather small Can be hard to place the new lots in other worlds
