BUS SERVICES A number of changes have taken place to the bus services in this area with some confusion arising as a result. We have sought and gained as much information as possible. It must be noted that these routes are mainly operated on a commercial basis and subsidies generally are not available in the current financial climate. Service No 12: You may have seen the new Plymouth Citybus services which started on 5th October. The buses are bright blue and entitled Blueflash and operate up to every 30 minutes and run via Tavistock - Bishopsmead - Horrabridge - Yelverton - Milehouse - Plymouth and this route is entirely commercially operated. It will be noted that this competes with First Devon & Cornwall Services 83/84/86, which are also entirely commercially operated, with the exception of the evening and Sunday services, which are currently supported by the County Council. Full details of Service 12 are available on the Plymouth Citybus web site via the following link: http://www.plymouthbus.co.uk/site/uploads/publications/1125.htm Service 83/84/86: First Devon & Cornwall gave notice to alter their Services 83/84/86 with effect from Monday 28th October. In summary, commercially operated services will mainly run via Bishopsmead, Horrabridge, Yelverton and Milehouse, with the 84 service being withdrawn and Whitchurch and Derriford being served only at peak times. Service 83 will call at Woolwell at schooltimes only. The revised First timetable is available at: http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/devon_cornwall/journey_plannin g/timetables/forthcoming.php Service 15: Woolwell will be served by First Service 15 once per hour. Service 15 will be calling at Roborough by-pass twice per hour. This is mainly the replacement for the 83/84/86 into Woolwell. This does mean that you cannot travel direct to Tavistock, outside of school times, on one bus from Woolwell. The timetable is available via this link: 5

http://www.firstgroup.com/ukbus/timetables_xhtml/timetable_pdf. php?source_id=3&service=15&routeid=2188591&operator=6&op _id=6&from_timetable1=1&day=1 First advise that Services 15 and 83 will connect at Roborough to facilitate travel to and from Derriford and Mutley Plain. They also advise that Derriford can also be reached by means of walking to and from bus stops on the main road. However there is also a Park and Ride service from The George to Derriford. HMP Dartmoor - POA Union Learning Centre Andy Harding and Ivan Judd jointly manage the POA Union Learning Centre outside of the walls and above what used to be the ‘Officers Mess’ at HMP Dartmoor in the midst of the isolated and barren terrain that makes up Dartmoor National Park. The Centre is directly linked to the Prison Officers Association (POA) and co-ordinates trade union education and lifelong learning opportunities for all Prison and Secure Hospital employees, their families and community members. Opened in April 2010 with a direct start up grant from Union Learn and over three years later the project has soundly demonstrated its sustainability in evolving from strength to strength as the POA Learning Project unfolded at HMP Dartmoor. The Learning Centre project has been built upon a partnership approach with POA Learning at HMP Dartmoor as well as the very supportive Prison Governor (Mr Terry Witton) and his management team. The Governor provides the facilities for the Centre and pays the costs of utilities such as internet connection and electricity. In return POA Learning provide 10 desk top computers and other associated IT equipment as well as funding the part time salaries of both Andy and Ivan whose role it is to both ‘gateway’ and source learning opportunities for interested parties 6

Eco-Village Planning permission was granted for an eco-village on the land next to Lidl’s beside the A386. It is understood that building will commence in the spring of 2014. The following has been received from the developers: A new eco-village to be built on the outskirts of Bickleigh is proving hugely popular with local residents in Plymouth. Ahead of any formal marketing in the local area, over 50% of the first phase of the new PowerHomes to be built in Bickleigh Down Eco-Village have already been earmarked for purchase by enthusiastic individuals keen to embrace this new style of living. The new community marks a new generation of green living and working and will see highly sustainable homes ranging from 5bedroom family PowerHomes through to studio apartments. All types of PowerHome have proved attractive to local residents, with these “early adopters” snapping up the opportunity to be part of the new community. Tim Byles, Chief Executive of CornerstoneZed, the developer behind the Eco-Village, said: “We want to deliver a community that is attractive to people who want to live and work sustainably. It is great to see so many coming forward to stake their claim on a new PowerHome in Bickleigh. These early adopters will play a central role in helping shape this new community and then running it, taking decisions on how to use communal space such as the green and maintaining the surrounding woodland area. “Bickleigh Down represents a return to community living, where neighbours are united through a common purpose and a shared recognition of the importance of place. This is the polar opposite of the faceless, soulless estates that are popping up all over the country and I would encourage anyone who shares the values of Bickleigh Down to get involved and join us in shaping this pioneering new community.” A formal launch of the Eco-Village took place at Boringdon Park Golf Club on Thursday 24th October, when CornerstoneZed unveiled the latest layouts of the PowerHomes. 17
