On March 13, 2013, join with the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and The North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault as we say NO MORE to domestic

violence and sexual assault! The NO MORE campaign was created to galvanize change and radically increase the awareness of domestic violence and sexual assault in our communities.

April is

The 2013 Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) campaign focuses on healthy sexuality, and on child sexual abuse prevention. The SAAM ‘Day of Action” will be observed on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, black silhouettes of silent witnesses will be displayed at various areas of the Caldwell County Courthouse.

Each silhouette tells a different story. Accompanying each “Witness” are real personal accounts of survivors. The Shelter Home Staff and volunteers will have a booth at Caldwell County Community College during “Spring Fling” on April 18th from 10:30am- 1:30 pm. Materials about victim services and body safety will be distributed to students to raise awareness about sexual assault prevention.

Let’s end the shame and stigma and shine a spotlight on our communities. Join the NC Council for Women, the NC Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the NC Coalition Against Sexual Assault, AND the Shelter Home of Caldwell County to say NO MORE!!

You never know “who” is watching or “what” they learn from you. Kaitlyn Moody, Daughter of Lily Moody Domestic Violence Manager of the Shelter Home of Caldwell County, attended the 2013 CARE National Conference in Washington. The CARE Conference is a Women’s Day celebration. The Conference was about how women have the power to extract communities and families from poverty. Kaitlyn wrote an essay about the CARE conference which won her the trip to the conference in Washington. In part of her essay Kaitlyn states “When thinking of powerful women, my mother, Lily Moody came to mind.” Over the years Kaitlyn has witnessed first hand the struggles women face by observing her mother on the job. She has seen battered women overcome their circumstance and become stronger women. She has volunteered at the Shelter some over the years and says “ Yes, I help out and do different things on my mom’s job all the time, but that’s because it is right in front of me and I hear about it everyday. But I wonder if I would still be involved if my mom was not apart of something so great?” Observing her mother over the years has inspired Kaitlyn to become an advocate herself. The Shelter would like to thank Kaitlyn for the time she has volunteered at the Shelter and congratulate her on her trip to Washington.
