Questions & Answers Public Housing 2012 Resident Advisory Board May 1, 2012 1. How many waitlist does the Housing Authority have for applicants? The San Francisco Housing Authority has two waitlist for applicants. One waitlist is for the Conventional Public Housing Program and the other waitlist is for the Housing Choice Voucher Program. 2. Why do we only need one list of preferences? There is no need for one single preference scheme. The Housing Authority wanted to open the conversation to allow for discussion on the pros and cons of a single preference scheme vs. a dual preference scheme. 3. Will an applicant on both program waitlist be removed from the waitlist if accepted into Conventional Public Housing or the Housing Choice Voucher Program? The applicant will only be removed from the waitlist in which he/she accepts housing. 4. Why won’t the Housing Authority provide housing for adults under their parents lease but will provide housing for families in shelters. The Housing Authority will provide housing for individuals/families on the waitlist as housing becomes available and as the individual reaches the top of the list. 5. How does the Housing Authority decide to close the waitlist? The Housing Authority closes its waitlist when it no longer believes it can meet the housing needs of the list. The timeframe is provided in Chapter 4 of the proposed plan. 6. Why did the Housing Authority remove the proposed policy regarding annual criminal background checks?
