HOME MATCHES IN CAPS * - at Glenmaura National Golf Club # - at Scranton Municipal Golf Course The Landmark Conference is a Division III athletics conference that was formed in the winter of 2005 in an effort to bring together colleges and universities from the Mid-Atlantic region with similar philosophies regarding the role of athletics as part of the overall collegiate experience. On November 30, 2006, it was announced that The Catholic University of America, Drew University, Goucher College, Juniata College, Moravian College, Susquehanna University and The United States Merchant Marine Academy had formed a soon-to-be-named Division III conference, with The University of Scranton becoming the eighth member in November of 2006. The most literal inspiration for the Landmark Conference's name comes from the many well-known physical landmarks of the MidAtlantic region encompassed by the conference. The name also reflects the significance of the institutions' decision to align themselves with other colleges and universities of similar size, educational philosophies, and high academic standards. It highlights the conference's intention to stand out not only in athletics, but also in academics, emphasizing educational achievement and the important role played by athletics in the undergraduate experience.

HEAD COACH ED KARPOVICH Ed Karpovich has the secondlongest active tenure among all coaches at The University of Scranton. He will begin his 30th season with the Royal golf program in 2012.

THE UNIVERSITY

OF

SCRANTON MEN’S GOLF TEAM

During his tenure the Royals have carded an overall record of 235104-2 in dual-match competition. He also led Scranton to a Middle Atlantic Conference team championship in 1988. That team, which featured all-American and MAC individual champion Will Carey III, set an all-time school record with a 24-0 regular-season mark. Twenty of his players have earned all-Middle Atlantic or all-Empire 8 Conference honors, while two — Carey and Mike Chomicz — have competed in the NCAA Division III championships. This past season was one of Karpovich’s most memorable. The Royals went 10-0 in dual-match competition, won their first-

ROYALS’ MEN’S GOLF 2012 ever Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational title in dramatic fashion playoff with McDaniel College, and placed fourth at the Empire 8 Conference championships, which was Scranton’s second season as a league member. Sophomore Jamie Bresnahan also became the first Royal golfer to earn all-Empire 8 Conference honors, tying for second place with a 72-hole total of 311. Karpovich has also been an ambassador for the sport, joining with former King’s College head coach Tom Davis in 1999 to found the Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational, an annual event that attracts some of the top Division III talent in the country. Glenmaura National also serves as the Royals’ home course. He also served on the NCAA regional committee this past season. Karpovich is a 1976 graduate of the University and a member of its prestigious Wall of Fame. As a player, he led the Royals to three MAC team titles (1973, 1975, 1976), while capturing MAC individual championships in 1974 and 1976. He also competed in the 1974 and 1976 NCAA championships, finishing tied for 150th in 1974 and tied for 42nd in 1976. He currently serves as treasurer of Lackawanna County.
