Location The Activist Social Forum is set in the heart of Transylvanian mountains in one of the oldest settlements in this part of the world, Rosia Montana.

This is where the battle to stop the largest gold mine in Europe started and grew to be the epicentre of the longest and largest civil and environmental movement in Eastern Europe.

History The Activist Social Forum takes place during F창nFest, the hay festival of Rosia Montana, the biggest multi-art activist festival in Romania.

F창nFest, is the festival where art meets activism, workshops and debates meet music, film and theatre.

2014 marks the 9th edition of the festival and the 3rd edition of the forum. Rosia Montana was also the host of the 4th Forum Against Unnecessary Imposed Mega Projects.

Motivation The scale of the challenges facing community organisers, justice, human rights and environmental campaigners across the world is increasing.

Only by acting together, sharing knowledge and experiences will groups and organisations active in different causes, guided by the same kind of energy and vision, have a bigger impact.

Rosia Montana, home to a decade long struggle for freedom and justice, is the ideal place to host such an event.

Activists from different countries in Europe are invited to attend, sharing their stories of resistance and approaches to improving the status quo.
