GUIDE

Dear Arts Enthusiast:

The 2015-16 season is upon us, and once again The State University of New York at Fredonia has a calendar chock-full of arts and entertainment happenings that are sure to delight your senses. I invite you to take a look through this calendar of events and make your plans now. Last season, a number of performances sold out, so I encourage you to order your favorite shows now to avoid disappointment later. As you will see inside this publication, a rich array of art, dance, film, music and theatre has been planned for your enjoyment. The front section of the brochure (pages 4-15) provides information on the major ticketed events including the Walter Gloor Mainstage shows produced by the Department of Theatre and Dance. On page 16, you will find the list of nearly 40 free School of Music ensemble concerts as well as the art exhibits by students in the Department of Visual Arts and New Media. But even more opportunities await you. For information on additional events including student, faculty and guest artist recitals, as well as any calendar changes or additions, be sure to visit the web site for our College of Visual and Performing Arts at fredonia.edu/cvpa. At the upper left, you will find a link to a comprehensive calendar of upcoming events. We are excited about the new 40,000 square foot, two-story addition that is now being constructed on the west side of Rockefeller Arts Center. I invite you to read about it to the right. For the 2015-16 season, there will be a certain amount of continuing inconvenience, but we are working hard to keep it to a minimum, and the final results, which we expect to unveil one year from now, should be worth the wait. Looking forward to seeing you soon!

On July 23, campus administrators and some long-time generous donors to the Friends of Rockefeller Arts Center had a chance to take a hard-hat tour of the construction site for the new wing. Pictured, left to right, are Carol Prevet; Ralph Blasting, Dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts; Jim and Marcia Merrins; Virginia Horvath, President; Maureen Webb; and Jefferson Westwood, Director of Rockefeller Arts Center.

Construction of the new wing progressing nicely The summer of 2015 was busy on the west side of Rockefeller Arts Center. Work crews of up to 75 people per day erected steel, poured concrete, laid cinderblock, installed conduit, put in plumbing lines and air ducts, and started installing steel studs for the interior walls. The new wing should be enclosed by winter. Completion is expected by fall of 2016. The project will benefit both visiting patrons and academic programs within the College of Visual and Performing Arts. On the ground floor of the new wing, visitors will be welcomed with a new public entrance leading to a small cafĂŠ and a multi-purpose room that will be used for pre-concert talks, post-performance receptions and other functions. A new staircase and interior handicapped ramp system will take patrons to the von Tornow Lobby of Marvel Theatre. Also on the ground floor will be spacious new sculpture, woodworking and ceramic studios, a new scenery painting shop and an enclosed all-weather connector which will join Rockefeller Arts Center to Mason Hall, home to the School of Music. The second floor will include three dance studios (one of which will double as a performance space), changing rooms, dance faculty offices, two acting studios and expanded costume shop facilities. The $39 million project also includes renovation to many studios, offices and classrooms in the existing building. For more information on the project, and to view floor plans and see a time-lapse video of construction, visit fredonia.edu/ rac/addition.

Regular hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Hours are shortened during semester breaks and college vacations. By Telephone: Tickets may be charged to Visa or MasterCard by calling (716) 673-3501. Time permitting, your tickets will be sent to you by first class mail; otherwise they will be held for pick-up at the theatre. (A convenience fee of $3.00 per order applies to all phone orders.) For long distance, try our toll free number 1-866-441-4928. Online: Purchase tickets 24 hours a day, seven days a week, by visiting our online web store at fredonia.edu/tickets. Web store sales are processed in real time, giving you access to the same seats you’d be able to purchase in person at the Ticket Office. Both Visa and MasterCard are accepted. A convenience fee of $3.00 per order applies to all web orders. Ticket Exchange Policy: Our tickets are non-refundable. However, if you hold tickets to a show that is part of the Mix & Match Plan and your plans change, you may exchange your tickets for any other Mix & Match show on a space available basis. You are responsible for any difference in price. If you switch to a less expensive show, you will receive a credit that can be used on a future performance. For Mix & Match subscribers, there is no charge for making an exchange; for everyone else, an exchange fee of $2.00 per ticket applies. All exchanges must be made at the Ticket Office in the Williams Center at least 24 hours in advance of the performance for which the original ticket is held. For Your Information... Late Seating: Every effort is made to start performances at the announced hours. Please be in your seat before the time printed on your tickets. Latecomers will only be seated during intervals designated by the artists. In Bartlett Theatre, because of the intimacy of the space, late seating will not occur until the intermission. Access Services: Handicapped parking is available in the front of the Arts Center and near the Rosch Recital Hall. King Concert Hall, Marvel Theatre, Bartlett Theatre, Rosch Recital Hall and the Marion Art Gallery are wheelchair accessible. Wheelchair accessible rest rooms are available at all locations. Additionally, King Concert Hall has a self-service wheelchair. Inquire for the wheelchair at the coat check counter and please return it when you are done. Listening Assistive Devices: Marvel Theatre is equipped with infrared listening assistive devices for the hearing impaired. Individual battery powered receivers may be requested in the lobby prior to the performance. There is no charge for this service. Photography and Electronic Devices: The use of cameras or recording devices of any kind is strictly prohibited. Cell phone or lap top computer use is also prohibited, including text messaging, picture taking, and video recording. Personal electronic devices should be turned off, or set to silent mode. Children: Out of consideration for artists and other patrons, parents are requested not to bring infants or children who are unable to sit quietly through the performance. Every child, regardless of age, must have a ticket. On performance evenings, the ticket offices and lobbies in Rockefeller Arts Center and Rosch Recital Hall open one hour prior to curtain time. Concert hall and theatre doors open one-half hour before curtain. Ticket office telephone for performance evenings is (716) 673-3501. Please note: All dates, times, programs, artists and prices listed in this calendar are subject to change without notice. We appreciate your patronage and hope you enjoy the show!
