RDRC YOUTH LEADERSHIP ACADEMY "EACH ONE TEACH ONE" CAMPAIGN
Each One Teach One Until All Are Taught” The complete phrase is “Each one reach one, each one teach one until all are taught”- penned by Mark Victor Hansen originated in the United States during slavery when Africans were denied education. When someone learned how to read or write, it became their responsibility to teach someone else. The idea is to spread knowledge for the betterment of the community. The theme of “spread knowledge until all are taught” echoes this Black History Month within the RDRC Mentor/Mentee Sessions. Mentors with diverse careers in Education, Law, Correction, and Non-Profit took a deeper dive with Mentees defining the stories being told via their digital footprints. Most Mentees admitted they had to either clean or establish their personal content. The sessions gave an acute awareness of the narratives they are writing, and the interpretation from an employer’s lens. The Workshops focused on storytelling with mentees predicting the outcomes of a ‘suggestive” digital footprint. In the outcome sessions, Mentors were devoted to assisting mentees rewrite their digital stories, including writing a narrative about who they are and what message they wanted to send. The “Praise Poem” activity and photoshoot assisted with the new “professional narrative”. Additional sessions enhanced the Mentees and Mentors relationships in the Career Exploration. Through these sessions, our mentees received insightful information on labor market data and trending employment sectors. In return, our mentees expressed where their interest lies, as well as finding common ground between themselves and their mentor. Sharing of information, teaching one until all are taught resonated with Mentors and Mentees alike….and so the work continues…..
ACADEMIA DE LIDERAZGO JUVENIL RDRC CAMPAÑA “CADA UNO ENSEÑA A UNO”
Cada uno enseñe a uno hasta que todos sean enseñados” La frase completa es "Cada uno llega a uno, cada uno enseña a uno hasta que todos sean enseñados", escrita por Mark Victor Hansen y se originó en los Estados Unidos durante la esclavitud, cuando a los africanos se les negaba la educación. Cuando alguien aprendía a leer o escribir, tenía la responsabilidad de enseñarle a otra persona. La idea es difundir conocimientos para el mejoramiento de la comunidad. Mentores con diversas carreras en educación, derecho, corrección y organizaciones sin fines de lucro profundizaron y los aprendices definieron las historias que se cuentan a través de sus huellas digitales. La mayoría de los aprendices admitieron que tuvieron que limpiar o establecer su contenido personal. Las sesiones brindaron una profunda conciencia de las narrativas que están escribiendo y la interpretación desde la perspectiva del empleador. Los talleres se centraron en contar historias y los aprendices predijeron los resultados de una huella digital "sugerente". En las sesiones finales, los mentores se dedicaron a ayudar a los aprendices a reescribir sus historias digitales, incluida la redacción de una narrativa sobre quiénes son y qué mensaje querían enviar. La actividad y la sesión de fotos del “Poema de alabanza” ayudaron con la nueva “narrativa profesional”. RDRC YOUTH ACADEMY ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: NATASHIE EDWARDS As RDRC celebrates Black History Month by acknowledging the work and sustainable contributions of Black American have made throughout the world, we have a list of notable historians that are leaving their footprint on the world. One such person is Natashie Edwards, Founder and CEO of Edwards and Edwards Management. “Established in 2003, Edwards & Edwards Management was initially a printing shop in Brooklyn. Natashie revamped and restructured the business and DBA the name to operate as a corporate level business with multiple services. They have adopted several tools, such as business essentials for new business owners and subsequent practices to carry out our activities. Natashie Edwards CEO, states, “I’d like to think of us as a one-stop shop for all your business needs. Our dedicated in-house customer service teams (real-life people who answer their phones) make it their mission to make your company a success. From business advice, marketing services, mailing capabilities and exceptional management quality, we truly handle it all. From the first phone call to the well-protected business service, we are serious about delivering the best customer experience possible. Natashie is bringing that same passion to the RDRC Leadership Academy with a 3-month intensive entrepreneur program for high school seniors enrolled in our WIOA Learn & Earn Program. Students will complete the program with Certifications, Licensing, and actual business accounts to fund their legally established ventures. Natashie stated to Ms. McWilliams, RDRC, Chief Operating Officer, "that it is important for her to give back to her community, specifically RDRC. People will treat you, how they perceive you. How do you want to be treated?” Natashie states was the question asked by Ms. McWilliams in an SYEP Orientation many years ago. It resonated in a way that forged her decisions in every stage of her life, starting with gleaning knowledge from touch points in the multiple services provided by RDRC. Manager, Special Projects & Initiatives The Affordable Housing Connectivity Program (AHCP) is improving broadband access in regulated affordable rental units across New York State. By funding infrastructure upgrades to create initial or open-access building wiring, the State is attracting Internet Service Providers to oftenoverlooked affordable housing properties so that tenants can access high-quality home internet service at affordable monthly rates. The Internet Broadband Connectivity Initiative by Connect All N aims to bring broadband connectivity to all communities in New York City and State. The Importance of Internet Connectivity in New York The issue of Internet access has plagued New York long before the COVID-19 Pandemic, but the Pandemic has brought to light the necessity for Internet connectivity in every household throughout the state. Internet access is imperative for daily life, as it has become a vital tool for communication, health, education, and work. Governor Kathy Hochul saw the need for reliable Internet access and initiated the Connect All program to ensure that every household in New York has access to affordable broadband. This program is a significant investment in the state's infrastructure, providing internet access to households that previously did not have it. Eligible households can also receive discounts on internet service and devices. With this initiative, Governor Hochul has established a blueprint for New York to become a leader in the 21st Century economy, guaranteeing that all New Yorkers stay connected to the essential daily activities, no matter the situation.
