St. John Church
The St. John Church which was built on lands donated to the British population in İzmir by Sultan Abdülhamid has been the place of worship for the British citizens living in the city for over a century.

zmir’deki üç Anglikan kilisesinden biri olan St. John Kilisesi, yüz yılı aşkın süredir İngiliz asıllı vatandaşların ibadet yeri olarak hizmet veriyor. 1898 yılında Sultan Abdülhamit’in İzmir’deki İngiliz halkına bağışladığı topraklar üzerinde kurulan kilise, günümüzde baptist cemaatinin kutsal mekanı. 1922 yılında İzmir’de meydana gelen büyük yangından kurtulan St. John Kilisesi, Türkiye’nin Kıbrıs’taki barış harekatı sırasında çıkan olaylarda ise zarara uğramış. he St. John Church, one of the three Anglican churches in İzmir, has been the place of worship for the British citizens living in the city for 100 years. The church which was built on lands donated to the British population in İzmir by Sultan Abdülhamid in 1898 is now the holy place of the Baptist congregation. The church which survived the great fire of İzmir in 1922 was damaged by the riots during Turkey’s peace operation in Cyprus. Today, you can still see a broken window on the porch that has a depiction of St. Polycarp. There’s also a marble plaque dedicated to Bishop Edward Collins, who died on a ship while coming to give a sermon in the church.
