Reagan Rattlers

40th President 1981 - 1989

Born on February 6, 1911 in Tampico, Illinois, Ronald Reagan became a very successful entertainer and one of the most popular presidents of the United States. After working his way through Eureka College, he became a radio sports announcer. Later, a 1937 screen test identified Reagan’s talent. His voluminous acting career includes 53 films. While serving as President of the Screen Actors Guild, Ronald Reagan became involved in the controversial issue of communism in the film industry causing him to shift his political views from liberal to conservative. Reagan won the California Governor’s race in 1966 and again in 1970. On the Republican ticket, Ronald Reagan became the fortieth President with Texas Congressman George Bush as his Vice President. Sixty-nine days after inauguration, he would be even more popular. Ronald Reagan was steadfast in his determination to cut taxes and budget expenditures. His renewal of confidence in America was called the “Reagan Revolution”. In accordance with his military defense, Reagan set out to eliminate international terrorism. He also met with Soviet Union leaders and negotiated an agreement to end the use of nuclear missiles. Reagan was still strongly against communism and was in favor in anti-communist groups in Central America, Asia, and Africa. Ronald Reagan was a brilliant politician, obtaining support in Congress in order to strengthen the national economy, lessen the inflation rate, and strategically make the military stronger. The Reagan Administration was the longest period of peacetime prosperity without recession. His two terms saw a boost in confidence, economic prosperity, and a stronger national defense. President Reagan passed away on June 5, 2004. Ronald Reagan High School is the first high school in the nation named after our 40th president. Reagan High School opened its doors in the fall of 1999. With its cutting-edge technology and innovative programs, it is not unlike its namesake, Ronald Wilson Reagan.

To the Friends of North East ISD, Welcome to another great year of athletic competition and academic success. North East ISD makes every effort to give each student a 360-degree educational experience with plenty of opportunities for extra curricular activities to complement rich academic offerings. In 2009-2010, our academic success reached a new level. With 87 percent of our schools receiving the two highest Texas Education Agency ratings, Exemplary and Recognized, the district claimed the title of Recognized for the third year in a row! We also had many award-winning athletic, dance, and speech and debate teams; state-recognized bands and orchestras; champion JROTC units; and other noteworthy accomplishments over the course of the school year. We are privileged to have a community that supports this 360-degree philosophy. This year you will notice a new addition to our athletic complexes — a 15 ft. by 25 ft. video board for both Heroes Stadium and Comalander Stadium to enhance the spectator experience and showcase our students. Paid by private dollars, the system will generate money back to the district through advertising opportunities. These video boards are currently the largest system at any public school district facility in South Texas. The dedication of our students, parents, coaches, school staff and community is central to our schools’ success. Athletic programs and other extra curricular activities play an important role in the lives of our students and the fans and families who attend games. Participating in a well-rounded education improves the health and wellness of students and provides them with the experience of seeing themselves and others achieve success. With your involvement, North East will continue to celebrate a tradition of excellence for many years to come. I would like to thank you for supporting our students and our district. Good luck and good health to each of you. Sincerely,

Reagan Rattler Fans: Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year! This year Reagan will host around 2,700 students that should fill the bleachers, along with their parents, at every Reagan event. I know the Reagan crowd will set a high standard for good sportsmanship showing Reagan Pride. We look forward to seeing everyone at each game as we support our Rattlers on to victory! Again this year we will be playing our games at Heroes and Comalander stadiums with the addition of new score boards that will be a main attraction. Directions and information about the two stadiums is located on the district’s website under athletics if you need assistance. Please adhere to all traffic information regarding entering and exiting the stadiums contingent upon whether you are the home or visiting team. As always, we welcome school/business partner participation, especially with our Reagan parents. With our new scoreboards, we will be able to publically recognize the Reagan business partnerships and we encourage you to become a Reagan school/business partner. You may contact our main office by email to cstanf@neisd.net ask to be added to our list. We welcome community support and parental involvement. The Reagan Booster clubs and Reagan PTA are our strongest supporters. If you are not a member of these organizations, stop by our main office and sign up! We appreciate the Reagan community and all of our patrons. Please continue to follow the Reagan Rattlers on to victory. Thanks for all of your support, Bill Boyd Principal

Welcome Rattler Fans This is a busy and exciting time of year! The start of a new school year brings the anticipation of a new beginning for Reagan High School athletics. Thank you for your encouragement and support of our student athletes and coaches. It is an honor for me to serve as the Campus Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach at Ronald Reagan High School. It is a privilege to be a part of such a fine school, district, and community. We are so fortunate to have fine administrators, faculty, and staff on the Reagan High School campus. Our booster club-the DiamondBacker Association-is one of the top organizations in the state and we are thankful for them. The students at Reagan High School make coaching a rewarding experience. I am very proud of the 2010 Rattler Football team. This team has dealt with high expectations since the end of last season. They had an outstanding off-season and spring training. These players expect to be successful in one of the toughest 5A districts in the state of Texas. The hard work and dedication of these players will be a tremendous boost to their future endeavors. The life skills that are taught on a daily basis through participating in athletic, competitive, team sports will enable these young men and women to cope positively with many future experiences. Competitive sports teach athletes to be on time, to be organized, to plan ahead, and to set goals. These young people learn to work within a set system, communicate with teammates and coaches, and to take care of themselves physically and mentally. These skills translate into the real world. The competitive drive to get the job done on the field will serve these young people as they enter college and the ever increasingly competitive world of employment. We hope that you enjoy tonight’s game. It is our hope that you will marvel in the talents and spirits of the young people that are showcased on the field tonight. From the athletes, to the cheerleaders, award winning band, color guard, ROTC, dancers, pep squad, trainers, and student council. Each young person dedicated hours of time, energy, and dedication for their performance this evening. Please take time as spectators to appreciate the magnitude of this celebration. It is more than a game. It’s lessons for life. Go Rattlers, Coach David Wetzel

Coach Wetzel became the Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach at Killeen High School in the spring of 2000. The Kangaroos had been 2-8 during the previous season. The 2000 team finished as the District 13-5A runner-up and gave the school its first trip to the playoffs since 1994. The 2001 Kangaroos finished 9-4 and lost to eventual state champion Lufkin in the regional quarterfinals. Coach Wetzel compiled a 27-17 record in four years at Killeen High. The 2007 Rattlers finished 11-3; losing to eventual state finalist Converse Judson in the 5A Division 1 Regional Finals. The 2008 Reagan team won the school’s first District 26-5A championship! The team finished 11-3; losing a heartbreaker to Smithson Valley in the Regional Finals. The 2009 Rattlers won the 26-5A Championship and lost to Pflugerville in the first round of the playoffs. Coach Wetzel was recently named as director-elect to the Board of Directors of the Texas High School Coaches Association. Coach Wetzel is married to the former Shana Stewart of Killeen.
