THROWBACK REVIEW!

“There are some wonderfully dated phrases [in Batteries Not Included] like the girlfriend leaving Mason and saying ‘it’s the 80’s nobody likes reality anymore.’ Also every scene in the diner just kills me with how old-timey and quaint it looks.” —chowderkirk

Insidious Chapter 2 picks up right were the rst movie leaves off. This makes for a very smooth narrave if you recall the Chapter 1 fairly well. They didn’t do a lot of ash back so like some horror movies you might feel a disconnect if only seeing this newer lm. Director James Wan seems to have done well pulling some convincing emoons from some very young actors and the more mature roles handle their various life (and death) challenges with moderate believability. What makes Chapter 2 stand out for me is some very contrasng yet “real world” comic relief from the paranormal invesgang duo. They quickly become as relatable or more so than the members of the Lambert family. In a genre that hasn’t had many new ideas lately, the Insidious series hangs its hat on the fairly unused hook on astral projecon. This RoAAer enjoyed this movie mainly for having more suspense chills than cheap shock thrills or gratuitous gore spills.

—Geek2TheBone “Hopefully the last season of How I Met Your Mother will come on Netflix soon so I can watch last season and jump into this seasons on time for once (I’ve been a year behind since it first came out!”

—dragonflyjen

“I’m pretty geeked about [Agents of] S.H.I.E.L.D., also the upcoming season of American Horror Story. I’m so amped about the last couple episodes of Breaking Bad. I will be sad to see it end, but I’m excited to see what happens.” —naive_eve

“The cast [of Community] is hilarious and have great chemistry. The episodes have such diverse plots, and almost every one is like a mini-movie. The meta-ness of the show as a whole is fantastic. And this season, we get the creator of the show back in charge, and he’s already declared to make this season’s 13 episodes “timeless classics”. I really feel like the show needs to be experienced first-hand, from the beginning. If you’re not liking it by 4-5 episodes in, I’ll be surprised. If you don’t like it after the paintball episode, I’ll be shocked.” —Yokuo 21

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month! BREAST CANCER: KNOW YOUR FACTS Exercising for 3 hours each week will significantly lower your risk of breast cancer! A diet high in fat increases the risk of breast cancer. Fat triggers estrogen production, which can fuel tumor growth! Alcohol increases estrogen in your bloodstream. Alcohol consumption in moderation is key in reducing your risk factors. Statistically only 5-10% of people diagnosed with breast cancer have a family history of the disease. You should give yourself a breast self-exam once a month. Women should perform their self-exam 7-10 days after their menstrual cycle begins. There is a link bet ween hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and breast cancer. HRT was added to the American Cancer Society’s carcinogenic list in the early 2000s.

An Interview with SirNarwhal

Earlier this month, FW visited TurnTable to speak with SirNarwhal. They danced, sang, and perhaps got a little confused in the process. FW: Hello! I am sitting here with SirNarwhal, hoping to get some juicy details about TurnTable and his personal life. How are you today?

FW: Oh, I'm sorry. How do I get in line? SN: Just tell me you'd like to be in line. I'll take it from there! FW: I, uh...would like to be in line.

SirNarwhal: I'm doing well, thank you for asking.

SN: Ok! You're #1 in the queue.

[Note from author: While speaking the above reply, SirNarwhal gave me a "thumbs up" sign and started bopping his head side to side. I found it odd, and just sat there awestruck for over a minute. It didn't stop. It wasn't even in tempo with the music playing in the background.]

FW: [Blank stare] SN: [Continues bopping] FW: So, I suppose we have a bit of time to kill before it's my tur... SN: A spot just opened up onstage! You have 90 seconds to claim it!

FW: Huh. So, it appears you enjoy dancing. I suppose that explains your extremely fit physique.

FW: [Takes 3 steps forward. Stands behind laptop. Blank stare.] Thank you. SN: Ok, now you just have to wait until it's your turn to play a song!

SN: Oh, I constantly dance. I dance to everything. FW: Is that so? I bet I could find at least one song that would make it difficult to dance to. Here, let me play... SN: NO. It's not your turn yet. You just got in here! 30

[39 minutes later] FW: I seriously can't believe two people in a row played the full version of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida". I gave the second person a thumbs down out of spite.

SN (cont.): occasionally respond with one. If they don't ask a question back, I get a point.

SN: YOU WHAT?! FW: Whoa! That was, uh, a joke! Ok, It's my turn, how about I play my song now.

FW: That sounds like a load of not fun.

SN: Go right ahead! FW: Alright!

SN: So back to your question. I kick CrimsonJella off the stage at least three times a day.

[4'33" by John Cage begins to play] SN: [Flashes a "thumbs up" sign and starts bopping.]

FW: Wow! The CrimsonJella?! Surely you're joking!

FW: You've got to be kidding.

SN: I'm not!

SN: I love this song!

FW: I have no idea who that is.

FW: Well, if you're able to multitask, I think we can go ahead and start with the interview.

SN: Seriously?

SN: Sure thing. RAWR! Welcome, @killiano92! FW: [non-subtle eye roll] Ok. Who's the most famous person you ever kicked offstage? SN: You think famous people come into our TurnTable room? FW: Well, maybe. You see, I... SN: Point! FW: What? SN: Ha ha. It's a silly game I play sometimes. If someone asks me a question, I'll 31

FW: Should I? SN: Yeah! She... FW: Point. SN: Yeah, I don't care. She's the one who programmed me. She owns the room! I've only ever known this room. She's a megastar around here! And she has over 30,000 DJ points! FW: That means nothing to me. Please explain DJ points. SN: DJ points are awarded when people give a thumbs up to your song. They accumulate over time.

FW: I assume there is a reason for them. SN: You assume incorrectly! Well, unless you want to change what you look like. I think you actually have enough to change your avatar's skin. FW: I'm content with my red hair and boyish good looks, thanks. I imagine it gets lonely in here sometimes. Are you ever alone in here? If so, I'm curious what you listen to. SN: Nothing. FW: Oh, so like 4'33" by John Cage.

FW (Cont.): I'll just hop off the stage real quick. /dive SN: What? No! I... FW: It has been a pleasure, SirNarwhal. I wish you the best of luck in the future. SN: I'll ask questions! You can score points! Please, just stay! I'll give you $10,000 for 2 hours. FW: [Contemplative stare] SN: [Desperate stare] FW: One hour. [We spent the next hour listening to various songs: "Poker Face", "Joker", "Ace of Spades", "The Gambler", etc. I'd like to once again thank SirNarwhal for his time.]

SN: No. I can't even listen to that. FW: I don't follow. SN: If you're the only one in here, you can play music, but you can't hear the music yourself. FW: That's peculiar. SN: It's cruel and unusual punishment. And now you understand why I bop to everything I hear. FW: [looks around] Hmmm. It appears that you and I are the only ones left it here. I'd rather not overstay my welcome. 32

“An RAoA Story story & pictures by doodlesraoacrudely It is a cold and stormy evening as you walk through Redditville.

You've passed the welcome sign ages ago, and thought the town would get better inside, but so far it hasn't. The inhabitants of 'Cringe pics', stare at you

as you walk by hoping you'll do something embarrassing.

34

At least those from Gaming seem fixated to their screen and pay you no attention.

You can still hear their chants of "GTA V!!!!" in the distance as you have long since passed them and begin wandering even deeper into 'Redditville'

Things grow dim as even the smaller places seem 'not quite right' for you, but you keep walking.

35

Hark! A light in the distance! Could that be? It looks warm and inviting as you quicken your pace towards it. You stand outside this fine establishment reading

its illuminated sign.

“Random Acts of Amazon, it says. You read the guidelines posted outside their door while feeling welcomed from the warm glow poring out the windows. Before you know it, the door opens and a hand pulls you in!

You find yourself sucked into the chatter and not just wandering aimlessly.

You decide that you will stay and find that its one of the best decisions you have made. 36

Halloween Horoscope Perfect Costumes by Sign Aries (March 21 - April 19) The courageous warrior of the zodiac! Channel your go-getter spirit this Halloween and go as your favorite comic book character or superhero! Hercules, Batman, Ironman, X-Men characters, or Xena Warrior Princess is your perfect costume!

Taurus (April 20 - May 20) Known for its alluring and long-lasting nature, Taurus just screams vampire! The enduring quality of Taurus synchs right up with a vampire's immortality. And here's the real icing on the cake: each zodiac sign rules a different part of the body, and oh-so-conveniently, Taurus happens to rule the neck--a vampire's dream!

Gemini (May 21 - June 20) Gemini is the sign of the Twins, so grab your best friend and partner-up this Halloween! Dress as twins! Or channel Gemini's two-sided nature into a costume just for you: think split personality, half-man/half-woman, or half-angel/half-devil.

Cancer (June 21 - July 22) Cancer is all about nostalgia, so think back to your childhood and dress as your favorite childhood character: Spongebob Squarepants, Elmo or Super Mario this Halloween! Cancer also happens to be the major foodie of the zodiac, so dressing as an M&M or a gigantic banana couldn't be more perfect--perfectly hilarious.

63

Halloween Horoscope Perfect Costumes by Sign Leo (July 23 - Aug. 22) Leo is the zodiac's superstar! No other sign can pull off a great celebrity getup quite like you can. Whether you choose something wild like Katy Perry or you want to rock as your favorite member of Kiss, just do your best to stay out of the tabloids, okay?

Virgo (Aug. 23 - Sept. 22) Studious Virgo, you can always get away with a classic librarian or nerd costume, or you could become your favorite character from one of the hundreds of books you've probably plowed through! Harry Potter, LOTR, Hunger Games... they're all packed with characters just waiting to be brought to life this Halloween.

Libra (Sept. 23 - Oct. 22) Libra is the sign of partnering up--and Halloween should be no exception! If you can get your significant other, sibling, or best friend to go along with it, dress as your favorite celebrity couple, or get gory as an undead bride and groom!

Scorpio (Oct. 23 - Nov. 21) Deep and dark, no other sign connects with the mysterious side of Halloween quite like you. Ruled by the planet Pluto, the "Lord of the Underworld," your sign was downright made to be a zombie this Halloween.

64

Halloween Horoscope Perfect Costumes by Sign Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) As the biggest traveler of the zodiac, lean on your adventurous spirit and sail the high seas as a ruthless pirate. Or, look to other cultures for inspiration: expand your boundaries as a blushing geisha, a sassy senorita or your favorite Italian sensation from the exotic, far-off lands known as the Jersey Shore. Better start stockpiling orange makeup and hair gel, stat‌

Capricorn (Dec. 22 - Jan. 19)

Every zodiac sign rules a different part of the body, and Capricorns rules the bones! Your go-to costume? A skeleton of course. Capricorn is also associated with work and public status, so going as a construction worker or firefighter would be right up your alley.

Aquarius (Jan. 20 - Feb. 18) Aquarius is connected with the cosmos, so harness your spacey energy and rock an out-of-this-world alien or astronaut costume. But if you prefer to keep your feet here on solid ground, draw from Aquarius' rebellious nature and go all out as a 1920s flapper or an '80s punk rocker.

Pisces (Feb. 19 - March 20) Pisces is ruled by the planet Neptune, the planet of dreams and fantasies, which makes your Halloween costume a breeze! From Alice in Wonderland to Rapunzel, fairytale and storybook costumes are your thing.
