The Sunchaser
The Sunchaser will be run on Thursday 18 April. It will carry total stakes of $22,900 with $15,000 going to the winner. (Note no Westchase bonus applies to this race) It will be an Open City Grade 520m event selected by Graders Discretion.
All greyhounds nominated for this race must be willing to be considered as Reserves in The Sandgroper.
The final 2 reserves for The Sandgroper race will be selected by Graders Discretion from the 8 runners in the Consolation race.
The Sandgroper race meeting
With the Sandgroper being run on Thursday 18 April, Mandurah will be racing the normal Country class meeting on Wednesday 17 April that week.
Note the Cannington Thursday 18 April meeting will have a City Grade 5 520m & the Open class Sunchaser 520m race added onto the program of races.
Update to Greyhound Recovery Initiative
The Greyhound Recovery Initiative (GRI) was launched on 1 Feb 2024 to provide funding towards the offtrack veterinary diagnosis, surgical treatment and rehabilitation of a greyhound that is suspected or confirmed to have a ‘GRI-eligible’ injury sustained during a race, qualifying trial, or public trial held at a RWWA racetrack.
The following amendments have been made to the GRI policy. Amendments will be applied retrospectively from 1 Feb 2024.
• A rebate option for conservative (non-surgical) treatment of eligible injuries is now available. Where the off-track veterinarian recommends conservative (non-surgical) treatment, all reasonable veterinary costs for the conservative treatment of the injury will be funded up to $2,000.
• The submission deadline for diagnostic and treatment claims has been extended to 56 days (8 weeks) post-discharge (previously 28 days) to enable the costs of reasonable follow up appointments to be included in the claim.

Grading day change For Anzac Day
Please note the Mandurah Tuesday 30 April meeting will be graded a day later in conjunction with the Cannington Wednesday 1 May meeting on Friday 26 April.
Note the Grading Office will be open for scratchings only on Anzac Day.
Race venue & program changes
The following venue changes have been made due to the Northam delay.
Race programs will revert to the standard Summer race types.

AMENDMENTS TO RWWA RULES OF GREYHOUND RACING
In accordance with Section 45 (1) (c) of the Racing and Wagering Western Australia Act 2003, notice is hereby given that the Board of Racing and Wagering WA has resolved that the RWWA Rules of Greyhound Racing be amended as detailed below.
Amendment to local rules
Amend Local Sub-Rule 22 (2)
PRIVATE ADOPTION OF GREYHOUNDS
Trainers or other licensed persons engaging in adoption of greyhounds direct to members of the public rather than through a registered/recognised adoption agency should be aware of these minimum requirements set out at part (b) below.
In the interests of welfare, there is also a requirement to accept the return of the greyhound within 28 days or as otherwise ordered by the Stewards and this should be made known to the person adopting the greyhound. The below amendments have been approved to facilitate these changes. They come into effect as from 28 March 2024.

(a) Where RWWA GAP has assessed the greyhound as being suitable for re-homing, the last registered owner or person responsible for the greyhound at the relevant time must to the satisfaction of the Stewards, seek to re-home the greyhound with the RWWA GAP program and at least one other re-homing provider.
(b) Where the last registered owner or person responsible for the greyhound rehomes the greyhound directly to any individual person or not through a registered adoption agency, then they must –
(i) Confirm that the person adopting the greyhound is at least 18 years of age.
(ii) Verify and retain a record of the person’s address and contact details as per the person’s Drivers Licence or other similar form of identification.
(iii) Provide the person with all relevant information with respect to the history of the greyhound, including any known behaviours or medical conditions that may be present or requires treatments.
(iv) Provide the person with a suitable lead and muzzle.
(v) Verbally confirm that the person has premises that can safely contain the greyhound and that they understand that the greyhound is not permitted to be “off-lead” in any public place.
(vi) Accept the return of the greyhound from the person for a period of not less than 28 days for any reason provided it is returned in the state at which it was rehomed and make that known to the person when releasing the greyhound to them.
(c) Notwithstanding the above, the Stewards may direct any person to which this rule applies, to retake possession of the greyhound if in the opinion of the Stewards it is in the best interests of that greyhound’s welfare or greyhound racing.

All Qualifying Trials are conducted prior to the first race at the respective race meetings, unless otherwise advertised. The number of Qualifying Trials drawn may vary depending on the number of races drawn and the number of spare kennel bays.
Should nomination numbers warrant, consideration may be given to conducting trials on the backup days of Thursday (Mandurah) and Saturday (Cannington) utilizing surplus nominations. Alternatively a stand-alone Qualifying Trial session may be considered.
