Looking Back…
1) A busy, productive, successful year!
2) As always, we are team players -- Continuing to act as substitutes for teachers & departments, handling multiple classes per period throughout the days/weeks, as well as regular library research and instruction.
3) Now to analyze some of the numbers:
A) Circulation numbers were up, particularly from the Freshmen (Thank you, Mr. Lambdin!)
B) While database usage was down in some areas, use was regular and steady during the popular time periods/assignments, i.e. National History Day kickoff (Fall) and review (Winter), Spanish-speaking countries research (March), Jr. English paper (Spring).
C) Ebook & audiobook usage remained the same but more LibGuides were created with views and remote access.
** HOWEVER, due to continuingdecreaseinLibrary Budget, the most expensive database bundle (from Gale Cengage) will be eliminated! Four databases of Science, Literature, Global Issues, and Biography will unfortunately have to be cutin order to utilize funds for increasing costs of other necessary items.
4) Another great National Library Week of presenters and performances! Lots of positive feedback, encouragement, participation (& assistance, Thank you Dr. Pease!) from the entire MSJ community.
5) Quarterly Chess Tournaments, as well as informal pickup games, hosted in the library continue to be extremely popular. Very well-attended and well-received.
Looking Ahead:
General Library Goals for 2023-2022
Although inconsistent elsewhere, the library will continue to enforce school-widerules (no phones, no food/drink, etc.) while fostering an atmosphere of quiet individual study as well as small group collaboration.
Will continue to host and promote the very popular informal chess & checkers games as well as quarterly tournaments. Will investigate possibility of competing in regional tournaments. Will work with Mrs. Bruce & Eng. Dept to create space for proposed “Writing Center”.
REPEATED REQUESTS! EXTREME wear & tear in the library. Over 22 years of daily use of teens demands repair/replacement.
● Soft seating needs to be steam cleaned (non-removable cushions). Very dingy & dirty!
● Over two-thirdsof our hard wooden chairs are loose, wobbly and/or broken. Very Dangerous!
