New Sales Director for Assisted Living and Healthcare is passionate about pickleball and people

You see an envelope; she sees a potential work of art Aberdeen Village resident Esther Minter has always found a way to keep busy with her hands. “Whenever the television was on, I would do everything from doodling to creating illuminations,” she shared. “One day, I started making things out of envelopes.” The inside of any envelope will often contain different designs or fold. “It just came to me,” she laughed. “I started to create flowers from the envelopes and before long, I was off and running.” Esther Minter with her She eventually became so good at the craft, that she envelope art nativity scene. had an idea that turned into a beautiful Christmas display. “I created a manger scene with Mary and Joseph and, of course, the baby Jesus,” she said. “I’m pretty proud of it.” She began sharing her work by leaving flowers and other creations for her fellow residents and eventually, even taught a class on how to create art from envelopes. “I even dressed as an envelope for Halloween!” she smiled. When her husband moved to memory care, she made a string of flowers that she placed on his door. “Eventually I moved them to my door and then one of our cleaning ladies took them to place on her locker,” she said. “I guess I got some good mileage out of those flowers!” Minter believes she has a gift and enjoys sharing that artistic ability with others. If she can craft a flower or even something as intricate as a manger scene and share it with others to brighten their day, she’s done her part to bring some joy to her friends and neighbors. “I enjoy it and it keeps me busy,” she said. She also enjoys doing other art. Her photography work was entered in the annual Art is Ageless® competition and is now featured in the 2024 calendar. Megan White

Megan White, our new Sales Director for Assisted Living and Healthcare at Aberdeen Village, is an avid pickleball player. Her true passion, however, lies with helping seniors and their families find the right options in assisted living and healthcare. “It’s not about sales for me,” she said. “I know sales is in my job title, but it’s about the people who are coming to you with a need and finding the best possible solution for them.” A Wichita native and graduate of the University of Kansas, White has lived in the Kansas City area most of her life. She comes to her new role with plenty of experience, having spent numerous years in a similar role with another organization. “I stayed home with my kids for 11years, but I was ready to get back into healthcare,” she said. “Senior care is my passion and where my heart lies,” she explained. Please join us in welcoming Megan White to our Aberdeen Village team! u

New residents Paul and Claudia Michaels recently celebrated one year at Aberdeen Village! Residents Paul and Claudia Michaels moved into Aberdeen Village last November and say they’ve loved getting to know their neighbors. “The name tags help!” Claudia laughed. As far as their decision to move in, there are no regrets. “We love it. We get out and do more than we did at home. We socialize more. We don’t drive anymore so that makes it a little more difficult, but our daughter lives just about 12 minutes away so she comes whenever we need to go anywhere. We’re blessed that way.”

He worked on the assembly line and was a master metal finisher. When he retired, he had the opportunity to train other workers in Mexico, Canada and Europe. “It was like a second career for him,” said Claudia. Claudia taught elementary school in between stints of staying home with their two daughters. She also worked at Crown Center as a claims examiner for a company. The Michaels now enjoy three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Both describe their new home at the Village as a friendly place with friendly folks. “We’ve made lots of friends,” said Claudia. “Everyone speaks to one another. I never get out in the hall without someone speaking to me. I think that’s a real plus.” The pair likes to play Bingo and Claudia plays Mexican Train Dominoes on Tuesday evenings after dinner. “The people are very pleasant and nice to be around,” she observed. “We talk and laugh. Laughter is very good for you.”
