MARCH 2024

Kansas City Chiefs Superbowl win is also a win for Aberdeen Village

Residents at Aberdeen Village love their Kansas City Chiefs and putting their trust in the team paid off.

Aberdeen Village was quick to accept a friendly Super Bowl bet, proposed by a senior community in the San Francisco Bay region. The Chiefs Super Bowl win means Stoneridge Creek had to pay up – with a case of Napa Valley wine. Aberdeen Village residents were thrilled!

“We always up for some fun, so we were happy to accept the bet” said Megan White, director of sales and marketing for Aberdeen Village. “Our residents put their confidence in the Chiefs, and we enjoyed their championship win with some California wine!”

By the way, if the Chiefs had lost to the San Francisco 49ers, Aberdeen Village agreed to send Stoneridge Creek…what else? Barbecue! u

If you feel like you’re in a pickle, try pickleball says Aberdeen Village resident!

A few years ago, Steve Davis joined his wife for a round of pickleball at the Olathe Community Center and quickly found himself faling in love with the ever-popular sport. Since moving to Aberdeen Village two years ago, he’s continued to play weekly at the center.

“I enjoy the competition, but mostly I love the fun and friendship,” said Davis. “I enjoy playing with people of all ages.”

Davis is always up for introducing the sport to friends – including a couple from Aberdeen Village who have recently joined him on the court.

“Some don’t like to play for two

hour stretches like I do, but it’s fun for everyone.”

Pickleball is estimated to be the fastest growing sport in America, and it has certainly captured Davis’s attention.

“I hope we’re able to have it here at Aberdeen someday,” he said. “As it grows in popularity and there’s more interest, I’d say that’s a definite possibility.”

In fact, when Aberdeen’s sales and marketing director, Megan White, joined the community she recognized Davis from playing pickleball at the community center. It was a full circle moment, and a sign of the sport’s popularity across the age spectrum.

Staying active and social have proven to have a positive impact on aging.

“It’s a great way to stay busy and stay in shape,” Davis said. u

Rebecca Chaikin channels past as a performer in role leading singing groups at Aberdeen Village

Rebecca Chaikin has long been involved in the performing arts. Her role these days, however, is less about being the performer and more about leading the performers. The life enrichment volunteer sings regularly at Aberdeen Village, partaking in everything from church services to various activities in assisted living. The MidAmerica Nazarene University graduate says she’s been singing all her life.

“My first performance was at age

eight,” she recalled. “It was at a tristate 4H convention in Tennessee, where I was raised.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Chaikin continued to lead socially distance singing events and is as passionate about music as anyone you’ll meet. Her grandsons share her passion and have even joined her in singing for the community. She has a daughter and six great grandsons, as well.

“I’m always singing somewhere. I’ve

been singing ever since that first performance years ago.”

Residents continue to benefit from that love of music as Chaikin’s voice can be heard across Aberdeen Village during various events and get togethers.

Please join us in sharing your appreciation for Rebecca Chaikin! u

Aberdeen Village Presbyterian Manor wins 2024 Pinnacle Customer Experience Award!

Congratulations to Aberdeen Village and Aberdeen Village Assisted Living for winning the 2024 Pinnacle Customer Experience Award, earned because of positive customer feedback through telephone surveys.

Aberdeen Village seeks customer feedback through monthly telephone surveys. Each month, residents and their representatives are randomly selected to participate in telephone satisfaction surveys conducted by Pinnacle Quality Insight.

Earning this award means Aberdeen Village consistently ranks among the top 15% of providers nationally.

The graphic highlights some of the survey results. All scores are given on a 5-point scale, with 5 being the highest score and 1 the lowest score. Between January 2023 and December 2023, Aberdeen Village residents and

their families gave the community high scores in demonstrating dignity and respect, safety and security and meeting individual needs.

“Definitely a five,” said one resident’s family member. “It is a caring facility with a great staff to patient ratio. They go out of their

way to provide care.”

We greatly value the opinions of our residents and their representatives about the care and services we provide, and we encourage them to participate honestly when contacted by Pinnacle Quality Insight. All state and federal confidentiality laws are met in Pinnacle’s service. u
