Tips for getting ‘spring clean’
Has winter left your home not quite as clean and organized as you like? You’re not alone.
While we’re stuck inside from months on end, sometimes things just seem to, well … accumulate. With spring just around the corner, now’s the perfect time to get your place back in order and sparkling clean. Here are a few simple tips to help get you started.
1. Tackle the piles
If what began as a way to organize your stuff has slowly gotten out of control, now’s the time to go through it. If it’s something you haven’t needed—or even thought about—in months, think about recycling or donating it. If it is something that is truly important to you, take the time to properly file it away or store it in a safe place. Once you do, you’ll then be able to dust and vacuum without any unwanted obstacles.
2. Go through the medicine cabinet
The medicine cabinet can be one of those places you don’t think about until you actually need something. Take the time now to get rid of

Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor welcomes Mistie DuPreez to the team
On January 5, Mistie DuPreez joined Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor as its new business office coordinator.
Prior to joining PMMA, Mistie gained extensive experience working in assisted living communities throughout Kansas and Oklahoma— most recently in Ponca City, Okla. In her new position, Mistie manages the financial and business aspects of the community, specifically accounts payable/receivable as well as any other billing or accounting issues residents or their families may have.
However, Mistie is quick to point out that, beyond her official duties, she’s always available to lend a helping hand.
“I’m always happy to help out wherever I can,” said Mistie. Besides her day-to-day work, Mistie says that the thing she has enjoyed most about her new position has simply been getting to know the people of the community.
“I enjoy meeting new people, hearing their stories and seeing the new faces,” said Mistie.
Mom to two daughters—one in nursing school and one soon to be— as well as a son who studies music in Weatherford, Okla., Mistie is originally from Tonkawa, Okla. and enjoys getting back to the family farm as much as possible. u
Dereck Hutchison
An Arkansas City native, Dereck Hutchison joined the Arkansas City Presbyterian Manor team as Senior Living Sales Specialist in November 2023. While he’s somewhat new to the role, he isn’t new to our community.
“My grandma was a resident here, my mom used to work here, and my ex-wife’s grandma lived here,” said Dereck.
It’s easy to see how people – and even pets –are a big reason Dereck was drawn to this position.
“I enjoy interacting with the residents and prospects, spending time getting to know them, their families and their dogs,” said Dereck.
In his free time, Dereck enjoys listening to music, watching movies, spending time with his kids, walking his two dogs, sports, and volunteering at church. He has five adopted children and he’s a foster parent.
Welcome to the team, Dereck! u

unneeded prescriptions and check for expired over-the-counter medications. While you’re at it, make a list of everything you’re getting rid of so that you know what you need to restock so that you’ll be ready when the time comes.
3. Give the fridge a deep clean
Sure, every week or so you go through the fridge and toss out the leftovers, but when was the last time you took everything out, cleaned the shelves and did a little reorganizing? You may be a little shocked—and maybe even a little repulsed—at what you find. In the end, you’ll be happy you took the extra effort.
4. Get your financial information in order
While you were going through those piles, chances are you probably found some financial information you needed to file. With Tax Day here before you know it, go ahead and pull all of those documents together to avoid any last-minute panic.
5. Ask for help
Don’t feel like you have to go it alone, especially if you have heavy or awkward obstacles in your way. Call on family, friends or even professionals to lend you a hand. Not only will it make the job go faster, but it can also keep you from potentially hurting yourself.
Last but not least, take your time. Your home didn’t get like this in one day, so don’t expect to magically make it all disappear in just an hour or two—remember to pace yourself.
Happy cleaning! u
Captain’s Table Serves Up Great Meal and Conversation
Executive Director Gini Myers recently hosted a Captain’s Table with four residents and six attendees. It was a lot of fun and a great success! Participants gathered for lunch, a question-and-answer time and some took tours of the community.
Special thanks to Taylor, our Dining Services Director, for doing an amazing job with the meal. The group dined on chicken marsala, baby potatoes, fresh green beans, chef salad and cheesecake. Yum! u
