Heard internationally through her blogs, website and social media, Sylvia has been researching and cooking without the most common food allergens and intolerances (gluten, dairy, soy, eggs, peanuts, nuts, fish, seafood, sesame) and refined sugars for the past 5 years.
For the past 23 years, under the umbrella of Body Break, Hal Johnson and Joanne McLeod have been communicating to Canadians the important message that making small lifestyle changes can benefit an individual and their families for a lifetime. They got their start with Participaction and had a relationship with them for 2 years. Hal and Joanne then took their idea and continued with 30, 60 and 90 second TV programs. Hal and Joanne have also developed and produced Body Break — 39 – 30 minute TV episodes, syndicated radio tips and workout videos. They enjoy doing corporate presentations and have launched many Body Break products from memory foam pillows and beds to fitness equipment. Hal and Joanne most recently became Directors of Health and Wellness for Truestar Health. Sylvia began allergy-free cooking when her son was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease, a chronic inflammation of the digestive system, at the age of 7. To keep him away from a lifetime of drug dependency and help control his Crohn’s Disease by changing his diet. (Food allergies and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) are two of the fastest growing chronic illnesses in North America.) Cooking for a restricted diet combined with a family and career Sylvia delivers firsthand knowledge and commitment as she shares her story of how she helped her son get his Crohn’s Disease into remission by employing a number of different health approaches including a diet that removed our most familiar foods and staple ingredients. In addition, Sylvia talks about the trial of developing recipes that are not only allergy-free but easy- to-make, delicious and family-friendly.
