Camp Hope Sunday February 26, 2017 Camp Hope is often the beginning of a new way of life for the campers who attend. Camp Hope provides opportunities that the children of incarcerated parents would not otherwise experience. These opportunities may come in the form of physical, mental, social and or spiritual challenges. The campers are loved and supported in a safe environment where they are encouraged to go beyond their comfort zone. They climb a rock wall, learn to swim, push through a long hike (in the mountains) and do all this in community with their new friends-other campers, volunteers and counselors. During devotions each night, they share their deepest concerns with the others in their cabins and release the bound up emotions that they are holding in their hearts. They are excited to greet each morning with song, dance and scripture at Morning Shine and begin a new day. These new beginnings have led youth to move into the next step in their life journey as a teen and several have attended Stepping Up, a two week leadership program for 13 and 14-year-olds that focuses on achieving a better grasp of their past, present and future. The oldest campers are able to attend Leaders in Camp, which provides experiences to develop confidence and become positive role models for others. These lifelong skills have started to form through Camp Hope. The purpose of Camp Hope is to stop the cycle of incarceration in the lives of our campers and it is working! Our numbers of campers is steadily growing (88 last year) according to the amount of money we have in scholarships and the volunteers who assist in all the work that is required to identify the children, get them registered, and take them to these camps. On February 26, we will celebrate Camp Hope Sunday and we hope you will be there to help us and to learn more from the campers themselves!
