Vestry Candidates Nominees for Vestry The Vestry Nominating Committee is pleased to present the follow six individuals who have agreed to have their names placed in nomination:

Stephen Clayton

Bill Dorn

I am married to Maureen (Linden) Clayton and have 1 son Boland (Bo) Harris Clayton born on September 30. My main interest is spending time with my family. I also spend time on the football field, basketball court, and lacrosse field as an official giving back to the community and the hard working student athletes in our area. When I am not officiating or spending time with the family I enjoy playing golf.

I have been a parishioner at Christ Church since 2004, when Judi & I moved here from New Jersey. I am currently a lay Eucharistic minister, docent, and acolyte advisor/trainer. I am on the 4th Sunday RCS breakfast crew. In the past I served on the parish weekend and 300th anniversary committees, and was an every member canvas visitor.

My background is in recreation. I received my bachelor’s degree from UNC Charlotte in 2008 and have worked in various aspects of recreation since I graduated. I am currently the Grace Martin Harwell Senior Center Supervisor with the City of Washington’s Parks and Recreation Department. In my position I serve over 1,500 seniors throughout Beaufort County and the surrounding area yearly and have over 3,000 participations in our programs and services each month.

I am a cradle Episcopalian, growing up in Christ Church, New Brunswick, NJ where I was an acolyte. At St. Martin’s in Maywood, NJ where Judi & I were members prior to moving to New Bern, I was a warden, vestry person, and treasurer.

Maureen and I have been members of Christ Church since November 2014 and from the very beginning we saw how welcoming the church was and wanted to get involved right away. During our short time at Christ Church I have served as the Middle/High School Sunday School Teacher, EYC Chaperone, Eucharistic Minister, Stewardship Committee, Personnel Committee, and Building and Grounds Committee. Along with all of those Maureen and I coordinated the Ministry Fair held in the spring. Prior to attending Christ Church, I grew up in a small Methodist Church in Timberlake, NC and served on the administrative council (the Methodist Church’s vestry) as the youth representative as well as was active with our UMYF (United Methodist Youth Fellowship) attending numerous youth events and I was also active with the Ecumenical campus ministry that served Episcopal, Lutheran, Methodist, and Presbyterians at UNC Charlotte where I attend various conferences and mission trips.

I was a lay reader and chalice bearer, acolyte advisor, convention delegate, and a convocation (deanery) representative. I served on the parish life, worship, stewardship, and building and grounds commissions. I was on two search committees and was an EYC advisor. In Form III of the Prayers of the People we pray; “Grant that every member of the Church may truly and humbly serve you”. Service to the church is an important part of my life and I think I can continue that on the Vestry.

I feel that my generation, the Millennials, are the new leaders and we need to come in and learn from those who have been leaders in the past so we can embrace the future. In order for our church to be successful and sustainable we must have a link from each generation we serve, beginning with the Greatest Generation and Silent Generation through the Gen Z (born 1995 – 2012) and Gen Alpha (born 2013 – present). In order to do that we must have the young leadership to learn and gain knowledge so in the future my generation can steer the ship. 3

Vestry Candidates Nominees for Vestry The Vestry Nominating Committee is pleased to present the follow six individuals who have agreed to have their names placed in nomination:

Sheridan Holstein

Dev Lippett

In February of 1993, I transferred from Christ Episcopal Church in Virginia to our Christ Church! While in Virginia, I served on the vestry, was clerk of the vestry, Eucharistic Minister, president of the ECW, served on a Search Committee and taught Sunday School. With a small congregation, it was vital to the success of the church to step up and help where needed.

Growing up, I went to Kindergarten here at Christ Church. I remember coming to church being crammed into one pew with my mother, father, and three siblings. It was my parents who decided to attend Christ Church. Although, when my dad first crossed the rickety, wooden Neuse River Bridge, he thought, “that would be a great place for a sailboat.” Before moving to New Bern, my family had been living in Saginaw, Michigan.

After moving to NC, I continued my career as an educator. I was not as active in the church as I am now and have been since retirement in 2011. I am a member of the St. Frances chapter of ECW, served as president of ECW and am still on the ECW board as past-president. I am currently the coordinator of the Compassionate Listening Ministry at RCS, a Daughter of the King, Eucharistic Visitor, helped with the stewardship campaign several times, recently became a member of the Christian Formation Commission, and am in my fourth year of Education for Ministry.

I spent my four year of high school in Virginia. As a part of Troop 13, and with the help of Mr. Gwaltney, I received my Eagle Scout Award. After graduating high school, I attended North Carolina State University in Raleigh, NC where I received a Bachelor of Science in Food Science. After College, I was married and divorced with one daughter. My daughter is doing great and currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.

Initially coming from a small congregation to our church, I was surprised that one could fit in as family so quickly and at the number of outreach ministries done by the members. People who know me well know that I have experienced the passing of my closest family. I thank God for our clergy and the fellowship of my church family in helping me during the most difficult of times. I am proud to say that at Christ Church we don’t go to church we are the Church!

At Christ Church, I currently serve as a Docent, Usher, Growing in Grace (G.I.G) Mentor, and I attend the Bruce Bible Class. I also pitch in with the Men’s Breakfast!

Why vestry? I have been asked in the past, but I feel I have the time now and the desire to support our church in this way. However, I believe Proverbs 16:9 “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.

Please note: Aira Underhill withdrew her name from consideration.

Vestry Candidates Nominees for Vestry The Vestry Nominating Committee is pleased to present the follow six individuals who have agreed to have their names placed in nomination:

Jean Reichenbach

Guy D. Smith

I amarried to John Reichenbach; mother to Andrew Konzen (Virginia Tech 2002; USAF 2002-2006) and Christopher Konzen (New Bern 2004, ECU 2008; USMC 2009-2013). I enjoy music, swimming, golf, reading, footbal l and my professional background includes: Bachelors Degree in Music; Masters Degree in Music; Bachelors Degree in Science—Pharmacy.

I am a cradle Episcopalian from New York City where my family worshiped at the Church of the Heavenly Rest. My wife Lacee is from McComb, Mississippi and we met in 2008 when we were law students at Tulane University. We were married in June of 2012 at Christ Church Cathedral in New Orleans. Our daughter Dixie was born in January 2016 and she was christened here at Christ Church in April 2016.

I am currently retired and am involved at Christ Church: in the following activities: Chorister, Christ Church Choir, Former Acolyte Master, and Director, Christ Church Hand Bell Choir , Chairman, Director of Music Search Committee, Cookie Walk Baker—My involvement at other Episcopal Churches include: Altar Guild. Lay Eucharistic Minister including taking the Eucharist to shut-ins, Acolyte Master, Director of and Leader for Small Group Bible Study groups, Co-Founder and co-leader of young women/mothers guild (The Mary/Martha Guild)

I am a Judge Advocate on active duty in the United States Marine Corps. Prior to receiving orders to Cherry Point, we lived in San Diego from 2011-2014 where I was a Prosecutor in the military justice system before completing a one year assignment with 1st Battalion, Fifth Marines.

I am life-long Episcopalian and have been a parishioner at Christ Church for seventeen years. At Christ Church I sing in the Parish Choir, am the Chairman of the Director of Music Search Committee, directed the Hand Bell Choir, assisted with the music portion of Vacation Bible School, and served as an Acolyte Master. At other parishes, I have been a lay Eucharistic minister, served on the Altar Guild, led Bible study groups and co-founded a young women/mothers guild. As a professional musician, I have had the opportunity to experience just about every denomination’s form of worship. Theologically and liturgically, the Episcopal Church speaks to me spiritually. As a healthcare professional, I worked as a team member to assess and offer solutions for the betterment of the person (s) involved. From these experiences, listening and teamwork are skills I have developed and have guided me in my endeavors. When faced with opportunities, I listen to all sides of the story and do my best to come to a consensus. Christ Church has a rich and well loved history in the New Bern community as evidenced by the feedback from the listening groups and parish surveys. I have a vision of Christ Church being a vital center for worship and spiritual nurturing for those who come in her doors, which in turn, takes the message of Christ out to the community. I want Christ Church to continue be the spiritual leader that she has been and can be to New Bern and the Diocese. Episcopal worship is beautiful; historic Christ Church is beautiful. As a vestry member, I would work toward the goal of continuing those aspects of Christ Church as we move forward. I am honored to be considered for the opportunities that serving on the Vestry will present.

When we first moved to New Bern, I was immediately attracted to the physical beauty of our church and the surrounding grounds. Once Lacee and I became members of Christ Church, I quickly realized how superficial my initial impression was. Christ Church is much more than a gorgeous space. It represents a church family whose value lies in our parishioners, our clergy, and the significant resources we devote to outreach ministries. I currently serve as a criminal defense counsel at MCAS Cherry Point. In that capacity, I see young men and women at rock bottom. I am proud to be part of a church family committed to doing God’s work in our community because I know how important it is to spread the Good News. If elected, I envision contributing by serving as a link to young families and members of the military. I welcome the opportunity to serve.
