ducation for Ministry (EfM) has been an active adult education program at Christ Church for more than 12 years, more than 24 have completed the 4 year program. EfM is a fee based distance learning theological education program of the School of Theology of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. EfM provides students with an opportunity to discover how to respond to the call to Christian service and carry out their ministries as set before them in the Baptismal covenant. Participants study the entire sweep of the Christian tradition from the earliest period to the present. The study includes the Old and New Testaments, church history, liturgy, and theology.

lthough EfM is a 4 year program, participants commit one year at a time to meet weekly for a nine month cycle with six to twelve students in a seminar led by a trained mentors. EfM is for the laity of the church that desire to increase their knowledge of the Christian faith. EfM teaches you how to think theologically, deepens your faith and your understanding of our Christian heritage, and provides you with a new confidence to be Christ’s minister. Harry Gormley and Thom Wilson co-mentor a group that meets on Wednesday evenings here at Christ Church. The group will start in mid-September and there are openings for 2 new participants. Informational brochures are available in the church narthex. Contact Harry (634-1749) with any questions.

August - Rite II Liturgy During August, our Rite II liturgies come from two sources outside the Book of Common Prayer, one Episcopal and one ecumenical. The Prayers of the People are taken from Intercessions for Christian People, a resource written in collaboration with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Roman Catholic Church, and the Episcopal Church. The prayers are in sync with what we hear in the lectionary readings for that particular Sunday and are intended to help us see the world through the lens of Scripture. Our Eucharistic Prayer come from Enriching Our Worship (https://www.churchpublishing.org/products/ enrichingourworship1). EOW was first published in 2000 as a supplement to the Book of Common Prayer. We have used prayers from EOW on previous occasions at Christ Church, Advent and Christmas to name a couple. I hope that you find your sense of worship broadened and experience God in new ways through these two enhancements to our liturgy.

Thank you - Paul
