Μετά από μια σειρά events τη σεζόν που πέρασε με καλεσμένους, όπως οι Fulgeance, Paul White και Dorian Concept , που έκαναν την παρθενική τους εμφάνιση στην Ελλάδα, το Cloud City επιστρέφει στις 2 Οκτωβρίου με το καλύτερο line up της σύντομης ιστορίας του. Το Αθηναϊκό κοινό θα έχει την ευκαιρία να απολαύσει το showcase της Eglo Records, μιας ανεξάρτητης δισκογραφικής που ιδρύθηκε από τον Alexander Nut του Rinse FM και έχει ήδη στο roster της μερικά από το πιο ανερχόμενα ονόματα της Λονδρέζικης σκηνής,αλλά κυρίως τον εκπληκτικό Floating Points. Floating Points είναι το προσωνύμιο του 23άχρονου Sam Shepherd από το Manchester, ο οποίος τον τελευταίο χρόνο έχει αναδειχτεί σε έναν από τους πιο «καυτούς» παραγωγούς που έχει να επιδείξει η Βρετανία τα τελευταία χρόνια. Τη στιγμή που γράφονται αυτές οι γραμμές, έχει τρεις κυκλοφορίες στο όνομά του, συμμετοχές σε συλλογές, καθώς και μερικά remixes που κόβουν την ανάσα, όπως αυτό στην επερχόμενη κυκλοφορία των Bei Bei & Shawn Lee στη Ubiquity. Η επερχόμενη κυκλοφορία του με τίτλο ‘Vacuum’ είναι ήδη περιζήτητη, με πολλούς DJs της Λονδρέζικης σκηνής να διψούν να πιάσουν το βινύλιο στα χέρια τους το οποίο έχουν ακούσει στην εκπομπή του Benji B στον 1Xtra. Η σχέση του Sam με τη μουσική ξεκινάει από μικρή ηλικία, όταν ο πατέρας του τον πήγε σε μια οντισιόν για τη χορωδία του καθεδρικού ναού του Manchester, της οποίας και έγινε γρήγορα μέλος. Λίγο πριν την εφηβεία του άλλαξε κατεύθυνση εστιάζοντας στην κλασσική μουσική και εν συνεχεία σε σπουδές τζαζ πιάνου. Εν μέσω όλων αυτών βρίσκει το χρόνο να τρέχει την Eglo Records μαζί με τον Alexander Nut του Rinse FM, μια εταιρία που αρχικά στήθηκε με σκοπό να κυκλοφορεί τις δουλειές του Sam. Οι δυο τους γνωρίστηκαν τυχαία σε μια από τις πιο δημιουγικές club βραδιές της Βρετανικής πρωτεύουσας, το CDR, που γίνεται κάθε μήνα στο Plastic People. Η πρώτη κυκλοφορία της Eglo ήρθε στις αρχές του χρόνου και γρήγορα τράβηξε την προσοχή της beat κοινότητας, από το Ντιτροιτ και το LA έως το Αμστερνταμ, το Λονδίνο και το Τόκιο, τοποθετώντας τον Floating Points στον παγκόσμιο μουσικό χάρτη. Μπορεί να ζούμε στην εποχή των ιντερνετικών παραγωγών, οι οποίοι φροντίζουν να πλέκουν μόνοι τους το προσωπικό τους εγκώμιο, κάτι τέτοιο όμως δεν ισχύει για τον Floating Points, ο οποίος αποτελεί εξαίρεση και του οποίου οι συνθέσεις είναι απλά μοναδικές. Και αυτή είναι μόνον η αρχή, αφού αυτός ο επιστήμονας του ήχου φαίνεται να έχει τη διάθεση να μας ταξιδέψει σε πολλές ακόμη beat διαστάσεις. Το showcase της Eglo Records θα πραγματοποιηθεί στο πλαίσιο του Cloud City concept party και θα φιλοξενήσει τους Floating Points, Alexander Nut και Fatima την Παρασκευή 2 Οκτωβρίου στο Gaz A L’Eau loft στην Τεχνόπολη.
On October the 2nd the Cloud City events that saw the likes of Fulgeance, Paul White and Dorian Concept making their debuts in Athens last year will resume with quite possibly the most killer line up as yet – kicking of the new season those in the Greek capital will get the chance to see an Eglo Records showcase – Eglo being the brainchild of Rinse FM’s Alexander Nut and boasting on its roster amongst other up and coming names, the trailblazing multi-talented musician and beatmaker Floating Points. Floating Points is Sam Shepherd, a 23 year old from the city of Manchester currently considered one of the hottest producers to come out of the UK in recent years. At the time of writing Sam officially has just three solo releases under his belt as well as a handful of contributions to compilations and breath taking remixes. Ηis efforts on the forthcoming Ubiquity release for Bei Bei & Shawn Lee are already astounding the critics. His forthcoming release ‘Vacuum’ has also gone down as one of 2009’s most in-demand, unreleased cuts with heavy names from the London DJ circuit still coveting the phuture classic after it was first dropped courtesy of 1Xtra’s Benji B. Sam‘s affiliation with music began back during his childhood when his father, on recognizing a nascent talent, took him to an audition for the Manchester Cathedral Choir where he was accepted as a member; as adolescence approached he switched to training as a classical musician, studied jazz piano. Yet amongst all of that he still finds time to help co-run Eglo Records along with Rinse FM's Alexander Nut - a label that was pretty much founded in order to release Sam’s work following a chance meeting between Sam and Alex at London’s creative hotbed – the long running CDR night - which takes place at Plastic People and sees the best of the up and coming crop of producers that London has to offer attempting to get heard on a platform known for its taste making acclaim. Eglo’s debut release was back in February of this year and quickly caught the attention of fans of the ever mutating beat conducting sound which shares a mindset with producers in Detroit, LA, Amsterdam, Tokyo, London and beyond, and put Floating Points firmly on the musical map. And this is just the beginning; accolades may be bestowed all to easily on young blood with the internet awash with producers self proclaiming their music to be better than the rest but Floating Points is a stone cold original; and don’t think we’ve yet glimpsed where this scientist of sound aims at taking us – it’s a beat dimension we’ve yet to reach. The Eglo Records showcase at the Cloud City concept party, featuring Floating Points, Alexander Nut and Fatima takes place on Friday October the 2nd @ Gaz A L’Eau loft.
