3. Grants Resource Center News, Cont. National Archives Opportunities, from GrantWeek, July 8, 2013 GRC members looking for humanities funding may want to pay particular attention to the National Archives, which has three upcoming archiving opportunities of special interest. The programs have full proposal deadlines on October 3, 2013 with an optional August 1, 2013 deadline for feedback on draft proposals. It is highly recommended that members take advantage of this latter deadline to get feedback on proposal ideas. Documenting Democracy: Access to Historical Records Projects grants may be used for establishing archives and undertaking basic processing activities that promote the preservation and use of America's documentary heritage. National Archives expects to have $1 million available to make up to 14 awards, which are typically about $200,000 for projects lasting one or two years. Publishing Historical Records grants support publishing projects related to U.S. history, with the current cycle focusing on the New Republic through the Modern Era. Approximately $2.5 million is available for up to 30 awards, which typically range from $20,000 to $250,000. Applicants may apply for up to three years of funding. Innovation in Archives and Documentary Editing grants support the use of innovative methods to improve the preservation, public discovery, or use of historical records including the development of new archiving techniques and tools. Approximately $500,000 is available for up to six grant awards, which typically range between $50,000 and 150,000, for projects usually lasting one to three years. For more information on these programs, including feedback on draft proposals, contact the appropriate program officer.

Presentations Available from NIH’s Regional Seminar, from GrantWeek, July 8, 2013 In the July 1 edition of GrantWeek, GRC shared the agenda of the June 27-28, 2013 National Institutes of Health (NIH) regional seminar. To complement that information, the NIH seminar presentations are now available in the Resources section of the GRC web site. This trove of information will be of tremendous help to potential applicants as they work to write competitive NIH proposals. Two presentation samples are provided here:  Working with NIH Program Officials – This presentation provides tips to potential applicants on how to organize their thoughts for a productive conversation. NIH says the pre-award focus should always be on communication with NIH program staff, early and often.  Common Compliance Pitfalls and Strategies for Success – This presentation provides a thorough resource of all NIH compliance requirements, as well as compliance pitfalls (such as misallocation of costs, excessive cost transfers, inaccurate effort reporting, and inadequate sub-recipient monitoring) and seven case studies with references. Any questions regarding these materials or the conference should be directed to grantsinfo@od.nih.gov.
