OCEANSIDE REPUBLICAN WOMEN FEDERATED! SEPTEMBER 2014

TRUNKLINE President’s message: Saundra Waecker

Hello ORWF.

Sunset Membership Reception

! Election, Election, Election!! Are you ready to paint the nation RED??? !

This edition of the Trunkline is going to flash through all of our events over the last 3 months. ORWF had a very busy summer, enjoy the pictures and remember we would love to have you join us in all that we do. Please look at our Calendar of upcoming October events. It is the month before the election and we are a political organization; we should be working hard for our candidates and our causes. Now is the time to make a difference. Start in Oceanside and work through the Country. Republicans need to take back the Senate if we are going to maintain an America that is still a representative Republic and not turn into a Marxist, redistributive economy totally. Big government is failing everywhere, now is the time to help everyone connect the liberal dots and vote to save our nation. God Bless America and God Bless all of you. Saundra Waecker ORWF

CONVENTION Of The STATES: What is it? Ci$zens concerned for the future of their country, under a federal government that's increasingly bloated, corrupt, reckless and invasive, have a cons$tu$onal op$on. We can call a Conven$on of States to return the country to its original vision of a limited federal government that is of, by, and for the people. Why Do We Want to Call a Convention of States? Washington, D.C., is broken. The federal government is spending this country into the ground, seizing power from the states and taking liberty from the people...The federal government has overreached its constitutionally-‐ established boundaries and has its hands in almost eve.ry area of our lives. Our children and grandchildren will inherit a bankrupt nation run by an unaccountable bureaucracy. Article V allows us to call a Convention of States to restrict the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, effectively returning the citizens' rightful power over the ruling elite. Together, state legislators and citizens can recover the checks and balances on federal power to protect our liberty from the abuses in Washington DC

ORWF Speaker for Wednesday October 8, 2014 Lou Oberman

The American Smart Dream—Smart Growth Education Series, Part 5 of 6 by Mary Baker, SDCFRW Chair, Local Ac1vism -‐-‐September 2014 Contact: marybaker@caprsdoc.org -‐-‐ Blog: www.exurbiachronicles.com Proponents of Sustainable Development/ Smart Growth are actively working to diminish the traditional values of the American Dream (opportunity and prosperity) and are replacing it with the American Smart Dream (wealth redistribution and decreased property rights). To smart growth planners, social injustice, suburban sprawl, obesity, and climate change, represent a few of the reasons why they believe it is necessary to change how we plan our cities in the 21st Century. "We must creatively change the way we live and work to set the stage for a more vibrant, prosperous future.” They believe the time is ripe for “The Great Reset” and the overriding message is that smart growth is the solution to sustaining the American Dream for future generations. Their view of the American Dream is that it is only available to some because ‘communities of concern’ (poor, minorities, elderly, single moms, youth) do not have access to the elusive Dream. For “a shot at the American Dream of opportunity for all”, they believe smart growth principles must be understood, adhered to and implemented at any cost. To understand why we should be concerned about smart growth and its powerful inOluence over the American Dream, it is important to recognize how our economy has evolved. Over the past century, America has progressed from agriculture and manufacturing economies, to a resource constrained, knowledge-‐based economy. Through history, land use patterns have evolved based on the needs of each type of economic base.

A knowledge-‐based economy is an economy centered on the production and management of knowledge. The knowledge-‐based economy is the latest stage of development in global economic reform and creates forces of change that affect how we might live as a society. Since the knowledge-‐based economy generally requires continual creativity and dynamic group interaction to produce innovative technologies, smart growth advocates view the role of the city as a vital center for synergy and collaboration; a place where the ‘green infrastructure’ offers clusters of walkable, mixed-‐use, high-‐density development with easy access to transportation, services, and parks. Smart growth advocates love this push toward urbanization because it supports their beliefs in Social equity where socio-‐economic classes are now living side-‐by-‐side and sharing equal advantages, •

Economic justice where opportunities and prosperity are more equitably distributed, and

Environmental justice where open space around the city is now protected from sprawl, species are preserved, and greenhouse gases are mitigated by the change in human mobility

The transition from an industrial and agricultural economy to one based in knowledge, is prompting an opportunity for them to push us out of rural and suburban living into urban settlements. But the idea of stack and pack, urban settlements is not new. For generations, social engineers have been attempting to deOine the ideal plan for human settlements. The Soviets implemented

this years ago with the same bleak results.
