The One Day of the Year BY ALAN SEYMOUR

“It’s Anzac Day this week, that’s my day, that’s the old Diggers’ day.” What is the meaning of Anzac Day? For war veterans like Alf Cook and his friend Wacka Dawson, it’s the chance to commemorate history, celebrate heroism and conjure national pride. For Alf’s son Hughie, Anzac Day flies the flag for a very different reality, one that brings the dignity of our Diggers to its knees and into the gutter—via one too many down at the pub.

Sparking huge controversy on its release in the Sixties, the play’s first ever production had a policeman stationed at the stage door to ward off the angry public. Death threats were issued to the author. A play that incites as much passion now as ever, The One Day of the Year looks at our national legend through the eyes of generation, class and character. On the 100 year anniversary of the Gallipoli landing, HIT Productions brings a thoroughly fresh take on this truly Australian classic. Contains strong language and adult themes. Recommended 15+

In the depths of the 1930s, Annie (a fiery young orphan girl) lives in a miserable orphanage run by the tyrannical Miss Hannigan. Her hopeless situation changes dramatically when she is selected to spend Christmas at the residence of the wealthy munitions industrialist, Oliver Warbucks. Quickly, she charms the hearts of the household staff and even the seemingly coldhearted Warbucks cannot help but learn to love this wonderful girl. Australia Day

WRITTEN AND DIRECTED BY JONATHAN BIGGINS

Everyone wants a piece of the party pie in this modern ripper of a comedy. The country town of Coriole is getting ready for Australia Day—a time to crack open a frothy, stick a snag on the barbie and celebrate what it means to be a true blue Aussie. The Australia Day committee is gearing up to put on the town’s biggest party— but they have a few issues of their own to sort out first. With everyone from the Greens, the local mayor, to the CWA wanting a piece of the party pie, it’s proving hard yakka to work out

Tour produced by Performing Lines

Head Full of Love BY ALANA VALENTINE DIRECTED BY WESLEY ENOCH

A yarn to warm your heart (and your head).

Head Full of Love is the story of these two remarkable women and the unlikely but inspiring friendship which forms between them. It invites you to look differently at the possibilities of the humble beanie: a much-loved everyday item, and an extension of ourselves and the everyday lives we wear.

The Annual Alice Springs Beanie Festival is fast approaching and Tilly Napuljari is running out of time to finish her new creation and enter it for judging. Nessa Tavistock, a Sydneysider, has run away to the red centre to escape her own problems back in the big smoke.

Wesley Enoch directs this intricate, warm and wisely told tale by Australian playwright Alana Valentine (Run Rabbit Run, Parramatta Girls).

With time and talk, they realise that despite their differences in language, surroundings and upbringing, they are not so different after all. In making their beanie together, Tilly and Nessa’s stories become entwined and made into a thing of beauty—row by row, colour by colour, yarn by yarn.

Health themes, references to suicide, some moderate language, 15+ Tour produced by Performing Lines for Blak Lines, with the support of the Australian Government through the Australia Council, its arts funding and advisory body.

Dewayne Everettsmith SUPPORTED BY SIETTA

One of those rare performers with a gift, a presence, Dewayne simply tells his story to a crowded room and most individuals listening feel he’s singing just for them. He can’t explain it and he’s not consciously trying to use it; it’s just there, it’s just him. He’s an Aboriginal man, descended from both the Aboriginal community of Cape Barren Island and the Gunai/ Kurnai people of Victoria, but his music can’t be neatly pigeonholed as Indigenous. It’s been influenced by his heritage, and then shaped by his tough early years and love of so many musical styles and great singers.

A fusion of live vocals that penetrate the futuristic atmosphere conjured by programmed beats that roll deep through each track, is one of the vivid impressions a Sietta listener or audience member will bring away from each experience. Whether it’s through a gig at The Vanguard in Sydney, or a showcase at Liverpool Sound City to some international newcomers, Caiti and James are always thinking ahead to how they can make each production a standout and more memorable than the last.

Hamlet

BY WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

Dark acts result in darker consequences and there is little that’s darker and more complicated than the act of revenge. A family torn apart by murder, a son burdened with the truth and the task of avenging his father and a country on the brink of war. Anguish, passion and desperation collide in this tragic telling of Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark who is tormented by the impossibility of his dilemma, and who remains one of theatre’s most fascinating characters.

What if we admitted marriage can be tough, that motherhood is a challenge and doing it all is exhausting? But Wait... There’s More Following the 2014 premiere in Melbourne under the Big Top, an action packed national tour including Palm Island, and a smash-hit international tour across America to Montreal, Circus Oz rockets into Orange with their show But Wait...There’s More. Kinship Rekindling the Aboriginal culture of Australia, internationally acclaimed Bangarra Dance Theatre presents an original and breathtaking theatrical experience, Kinship by award-winning choreographer Stephen Page. Kinship opens with Brolga, a creation story inspired by the totemic systems in Australian Aboriginal culture, where every person is assigned a totem related to their clan. Set in North East Arnhem Land, a young girl ventures out before sunset and finds herself on a brolga’s feeding ground. As she is challenged by her totemic temptation, she takes us on a journey of exploring relationships between humans and creatures, reflecting on the intrinsic spirituality of the natural world. The performance continues with ID, investigating what it means to be Aboriginal in the 21st century, asking important questions of

EY T RE E HOUS E

Well, what are you waiting for? Come on up! THEY’RE BACK! Yes, that’s right. Andy and Terry had such a ball with their crash-landing entry into the world of theatre with The 13-Storey Treehouse, they’re back for more. 13 storeys more, in fact. AND YOU’RE INVITED! You know what 13 more storeys means. More INVENTIONS—like the 78 flavour ice-cream dispensing robot and the brain bamboozling Maze of Doom (not to mention the self-inflating underpants) and more things to go WRONG—not least of which is the very real possibility that the entire show is a complete and utter disaster. Will Andy and Terry push their friend Jill to her absolute limits? And who is this shady Hector Houtkop, with a really bad pirate accent? And what about ALL THOSE PIRATES?

Shows for Kids! AT ORANGE CIVIC THEATRE

A Monkey Baa Theatre Company Production

I am Jack Based on the book by Susanne Gervay Adapted by Eva Di Cesare, Tim McGarry and Sandra Eldridge Jack is smart, funny and is being bullied. What starts as an off the cuff joke during a handball competition, soon turns into a set of circumstances whereby Jack is no longer safe in the playground. But with the use of selfexpression through photography, Jack begins to make sense of his world; of his relationships with others, and most importantly, with himself.

credits Director: Sandra Eldridge Design: Alice Lindstrom Lighting Design: Luiz Pampolha Sound Design: Jeremy Silver Dramaturge: Caleb Lewis

This one man show explores the often overlooked insidious taunting and teasing that bullies are so adept at inflicting on their victims and the roles that family and schools can play in responding. Jack takes us on a touching and sometimes comical journey as he moves from victim to victor. For 8-14 year olds.
