Prices SUBSCRIBER $66.00 ADULT $72.00 CONCESSION $68.00 JUNIOR $40.00 105 minutes with interval

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra returns to Orange with a concert featuring two great masters of the Classical era: Mozart and Haydn. It’s a victory lap for Russian pianist Andrey Gugnin, winner of the 2016 Sydney International Piano Competition and recipient of the SSO-sponsored Eileen Joyce Prize. After astonishing competition audiences with highvoltage virtuosity, Andrey Gugnin has chosen Mozart’s introspective and gracious tribute to his mentor JC Bach for his first engagement with the SSO. Mozart’s concerto is framed by sublime music from the “father of the symphony”, Joseph Haydn. The concert begins with his inventive and brilliant Symphony No.68. After interval there’s a musical “work contract negotiation” — the famous Farewell Symphony with which Haydn cleverly persuaded his aristocratic employer to give his musicians a much-needed break. One night only at Orange Civic Theatre. PROGRAM: HAYDN Symphony No.68 MOZART Piano Concerto No.12 in A, K414 HAYDN Symphony No.45 (Farewell)

Credits WRITTEN & DIRECTED BY Ken McBeath ORIGINAL SONGS BY Ken McBeath & Darren Coggan

Prices SUBSCRIBER $35.00 ADULT $42.00 CONCESSION $38.00 JUNIOR $28.00 130 minutes with interval

Darren Coggan’s The ANZACS, takes you on an insightful journey into the lives of the Australians behind the lines, the notion of the Anzac spirit, the ideals of courage, endurance and mateship and connects us to an iconic part of our heritage. Personal and exceptional stories of Australians at war are woven into songs that provide an intimate perspective of the tales that have helped shape our nation. We reminisce about the generation of women who stayed at home and kept the country running. We celebrate the mateship, humour and courage in the Gallipoli trenches. And we honour our Indigenous diggers, a story rarely told. Awarded Heritage Song of the Year at the 37th Golden Guitar Awards, Darren’s beautiful performance brings a warmth and integrity to the narrative. The ANZACS is a salute to the Australian spirit and how we find the strength to shine in the most intense and heart-breaking situations. From the performer who will also bring you Peace Train: The Cat Stevens Story this year, on Friday April 7, don’t miss Darren Coggan in this inspirational new work. “The ANZACS paints a vivid picture of Australia at war and is a hugely entertaining experience. This is a must see for all Australians.” —James Blundell, Ambassador for the Vietnam Veterans Association of Australia

CORANDERRK is about what might have been. At a Victorian Parliamentary Inquiry in 1881, the men and women of the Coranderrk Aboriginal Reserve went head-to-head with the Aboriginal Protection Board. Their goal was both simple and revolutionary: to be allowed to continue the brilliant experiment in self-determination they had pioneered for themselves on the scrap of country left to them. CORANDERRK recreates the Inquiry. This is both great theatre and great history. It revives the voices of all those, black and white, who fought for a better pact between the country’s oldest and newest inhabitants. This special production pays tribute to the resilience and adaptability of a people who rose to the challenge despite the odds, appropriating the power of the written word to make their own voices ring loud and clear. CORANDERRK is a collaboration between leading Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists, researchers, education experts and community members. The production aims to encourage a shared understanding of the past between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander audiences are warned that this production contains images of deceased persons.

All that glisters is not gold; Often have you heard that told. Act 2 Scene 7 Money makes the world go around. Portia has it. Bassanio wants it. Shylock lends it. Antonio owes the value of it. Love also plays a part. Portia offers it. Bassanio wants it. And Antonio may lose a pound of flesh for it. This uncompromising and dark production explores the tense relationship and prejudices between those that have, and those that don’t. Dark in its humour and bawdy in its romantic hijinks, The Merchant Of Venice takes audiences on a journey of love, mercy and justice. Featuring 3 time Helpmann Award winner, Mitchell Butel (Janet King and Rake) as the defiant Shylock, and Jessica Tovey (Wolf Creek and Wonderland) as Portia, the production will be directed by Anne-Louise Sarks (Belvoir’s Jasper Jones and Medea). This masterfully envisioned production tackles the prejudices and preconceived notions of one of Shakespeare’s most challenging plays. Touring nationally July to December 2017.

This intensely physical new show is at once humorous and brutal, savage and beautiful. Set to a soundtrack that mixes popular song and electronic music, Landscape with Monsters is bursting with the thrills that are the hallmarks of Circa performances. Emotions and bodies intertwine until we discover the monsters in the landscape just might be ourselves...

In this very special event, Orange Civic Theatre presents William Yang, Australia’s foremost, internationally-renowned storyteller, in his captivating work The Story Only I can Tell. William always felt he did not fit in. He felt Australian but looked Chinese. HIs journey was to find his Australian Chinese identity, and this story has resonated with Australians who are mostly immigrants of some sort. William has since become an award-winning photographer, filmmaker and storyteller, and his works have been presented all over the world. In the lead up to the performance William will be working with a small group of local residents, helping them to craft their own stories of place with words and photos. Our story begins as Frederic is about to reach his 21st birthday, concluding his apprenticeship to the infamous Pirates of Penzance (all former orphans). Frederic’s nursemaid, Ruth, reveals that she had mistakenly apprenticed him to a Pirate instead of a pilot, as intended. Once released, Frederic meets a group of sisters and falls in love instantly with one named Mabel. The Pirates return and the sisters father, the Major-General is forced to pretend he is also an orphan to win their sympathy. As Frederic vowed his freedom would be devoted to exterminating all Pirates, he is busy launching an attack with the cowardly assistance of the police. Meanwhile, Ruth & the Pirate King reveal an amusing paradox. It seems Frederic was born in a leap year on the 29th of February and, in terms of actual birthdays, is only 5 instead of 21. Therefore, must serve for another 63 years. With more laughs and a more modern sound, this performance of swashbuckling choreography & ‘Poperetta’ style songs is sure to get you humming along and dancing in your seats.

From Australia’s leading producer of high quality entertainment for kids and families comes the International Touring Production of WE’RE GOING ON A BEAR HUNT — LIVE ON STAGE! with an all Australian cast. WE’RE GOING ON A BEAR HUNT is the wonderful story of a family out for a walk and on the lookout for a growling bear — they have to march through long swishy grass, wade through thick gloopy mud and even battle a snow storm before entering a big dark cave where maybe they will finally spot the glinty wet eyes of a slobbering, gigantic bear winking at them through the blackness. This mini-musical captures the fun and frolics of a father who is clearly still a child at heart, his three children — including a tiny intrepid bearhunter-in-the-making baby strapped to dad’s back, plus the family dog and of course… a BIG BROWN CUDDLY BEAR!

Orange Regional Gallery Exhibition

WILLIAM YANG: SELF PORTRAITS 4 August–8 October 2017 William Yang is best known for his autobiographic performance pieces, produced since the late 1980s and often performed on stage with large projected images and music. A narrative runs through these shows and his selfportrait photographs recreate this story. He will often write his story directly onto the prints. William Yang: Self Portraits features a series of striking images in which the artist charts his childhood in North Queensland, his time in Sydney where he came out as a gay man, his search for identity and his trips to China. More recent images are meditations on family and mortality. ‹ 50 ›
