The machine industry has the experience and infrastructure to move Turkey forward in all

108

areas. Turkey may make good use of this potential. When the Growth Machine campaign is operated efficiently, it may be a good success story in the end. The Turkish machinery that raised its export 4-6 per cent, has written the first clue of this success story. The Turkish machine sector is defined as Turkey’s growth machine under the new communication campaign. Turkey has come one of the two countries with an increase in global machine export above the global average. HOMELAND OF TURKISH MACHINERY: BURSA Under the title of ‘The Bursa Industry Summit”, Metal Processing Technologies, Sheet Metal Processing Technologies, Mold Eurasia, Labour and Worker Safety and Equipment, and Automation trade fairs held simultaneously in Bursa, Turkey on December 1-4.

T

he Bursa Industry Summit was organized in Bursa International Fair and Congress Centre in cooperation with TÜYAP, Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO), The Turkish Machine Manufacturers Association (MİB) The Machine Tools Industrialists and Businessmen’s Association (TİAD), The Turkish Tool Manufacturers Association (UKUB), and with support of Turkish Ministry of Economy, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, Small and Medium industry Development Organization (KOSGEB). We believe that we will be the most exporting sector in Turkey and stronger in international arena with the slogan of ‘National producing, national power’. We struggle to achieve our goal. We gave a start to national producing, national power movement in Bursa. THE GIANTS HOLD IN HIGH HONOUR The Turkish Machinery united together companies, which are over 50 years in machine sector, for the 100th issue of the Moment Expo launch. The founders, second generation, third generation even fourth generation attended very special event.

T

he Machinery and Accessories Exporters’ Association’s (MAİB) official magazine Moment Expo celebrated 100th issue with speacial event in The Ritz-Carlton, Istanbul on November 29. Brand runners in their sub-sectors as well as main sector representatives came together at activity. Brands as Aybakar Değirmen Machine, Konmak Machine, Tunaylar Kantar and Turan Tarım Machine were among companies that had celebrated their 80th or 90th years. On the other hand, The Turkish machine industry runners were rewarded for their contributions to Turkey’s industrialization, modernization, and welfare, when they had a chance to express themself possibly for the first time. Total number of categories were four: Firms in

age 50-60, firms in age 60-70, firms in age 70-80, firms in age 80-123. 98 firms in age 50-60, 70 companies in age 60-70, 17 firms in age 70-80, 5 companies in age 80-123 categories were rewarded. In total 190 companies received plaques. NO OTHER PUBLICATION CAN TELL OUR STORY The Moment Expo is the official magazine of the Turkish Machinery and is accepted the mission of being a archive source for the Turkish machinery sector. Moment Expo 100th issue launch got start with opening speech of MAİB Deputy Chairman, and the Moment Expo Editorial Board Chairman Kutlu Karavelioğlu. Mr. Karavelioğlu told of the role of the Moment Expo in the Turkish machine industry. “We have a unfailing motivation since Moment Expo

was named in June, 2008. The engineers know, the moment is effect of the force turning. The most important design element in all machines with rotation motion is the moment. The quantity, which does not lose its speed as long as it is not under external influence. In short, the machine’s power comes from and is measured by the moment. When we gave a name to Moment Expo, We wanted to common and international term. The moment has various meaning as moment for the time and so. We seem to have started this publishing business ambitiously, by putting the name of the moment. We understand that much better, coming to the 100th issue. Publishing is more difficult than manufacturing a machine. The machine is identified with dirt, oil, rust, noise, so machine industry is not popular. How much interesting can be a machine? The fact is that the power behind the machine sector is machine manufacturers. However the mirror of the machinery is again machinery. There is not another publication that tells our story better than we do.” Said Kutlu Karavelioğlu. BACKGROUND WITH ENTREPRENEURSHIP STORIES The Machinery and Accessories Exporters’ Association CEO, Adnan Dalgakıran stated in this speech that the history of the Turkish ma-

110

chine sector was written simultaneously with the industrialization of Turkey. Mr. Dalgakıran said: “The history of machine industry is full of entrepreneurial stories that pursue their own dreams. Our companies, which have managed to reach their goals, are over 50 years and give direction to Turkish industry. This special event held for bringing honour to them and they honoured us by their participation in event. We are delighted to come together with the founders and/or runners of the companies. I do not have a prepared speech by reason of being in machine sector family in this event. No one have a prepared speech when speaks to family members. So you all are a member of great machine sector family. We have invited the great ones of our companies that has been in existence over 50 years. We will honour them but the fact is that by producing they honour our country.”

who followed the machine sector from base to top. Machine sector needs an incredible struggle so it is very difficult job to do. The machinery runners often faced the difficulties, despite the fact that money has been gained very easily in some other sectors. If you invest money in land estate, you can raise your money twice in three years. But the machine runners did not invest money in this, they set up factories, workshop, and employed more people. That is what Turkey needs. Trade balance deficit is negotiated in Turkey since I was born or before. There is not a chance in trade balance deficit obviously. Well, what is base of this problem? The first is that we import fuel oil, natural gas because we do not have enough. The second is investment goods, machines. This is obviously the fact and every-

one knows it. You may not appear in the media but you are always in the spotlight. We are a community that can solve the most important issue in Turkey. We machine runners are invisible hero.” Highlighted Mr. Dalgakıran. THE GROWTH MACHINE COMMERCIAL FILM IN VISION After the speeches, the Machinery Storie short film that contains the Turkish machine industry stories since first years of Republic and background of Moment Expo, was presented to guests. MAİB CEO Adnan Dalgakıran made a surprise in the end of the night by mentioning about new campaign Growth Machine. The Growth Machine commercial film was presented. The night ended with collective photo shoots.

THE MACHINE SECTOR FROM BASE TO TOP I have also witnessed important parts of machine industry journey. I am engineer, among old and new generation. I grew up in Perşembe Pazarı (A long street in Karaköy, Istanbul with small and medium sized machine enterprises). I witnessed the machine seller shop with the size of 10 or 20 square meters. Therefore I was one of those,
