THE TURKISH MACHINERY PLAYS A PART AT WIN EURASIA METALWORKING The Turkish Machinery continued to provide support to Turkish machine manufacturers by attending the WIN EURASIA Metalworking trade fair in TÜYAP Fair and Congress Center, İstanbul between 9 and 12 February 2017. ASIA Automation that both are very important events of the manufacturing industry. WIN EURASIA 2018 will offer seven more exhibitions under Eurasia Metalworking, and WIN Eurasia Automation so that provides more earnings and efficiency to trade fair visitors.

NEW CHAIRMAN NEW TERM FOR TEVİD Alparslan Kurtmen was elected as the board chairman of the Turkish Electric Cranes Manufacturers Association’s (TEVİD) regular general assembly that held on January 14.

he regular general assembly of Turkish Electric Cranes Manufacturers Association was held on January 14. Mr. Alparslan Kurtmen was elected as the board chairman, Mr. Kemal Teken elected as the board vice chairman, Mr. Umur Özarar was elected as the general secretary, and Mr. Tekin Çelikbilek was elected as the accountant by unanimous vote. TEVİD that was founded in 2010 and still represents 65 percent of the sector thanked former board of directors and chairman Önder Bülbüloğlu. TEMSAD’S BOARD OF DIRECTORS RE-ELECTED The 10th regular general assembly of the Textile Machinery and Accessories Industrialists’ Association (TEMSAD) was held in Istanbul on January 21. After the regular general assembly, the board of directors under the presidency of Adil Nalbant was re-elected. “We are struggling to tell the importance of domestic machinery at every opportunity and every actions. If as a country you do not hve your won machine industry, you can not be any power in the global competition. Domestic production is the only way out for our country economically and commercially. We can not reach our goals without encouraging the use of demestic machinery. We spend 25-26 billion dollars each year on

he TEMSAD members met on January 21 in order to determine the new board of governors. The board of directors of the TEMSAD under the presidency of Adil Nalbant received vote of confidence for the 10th term in the regular general assembly that was attended by runners of various sectorial institutions as well as TEMSAD members. Members appointed the TEMSAD’s 2017-2019 term management committee, ethics committee, oversight committee, and members of Turkish Machinery Federation (MAKFED) in the elections held in the general assembly. “NO INLAND MACHINE NO FUTURE” Adil Nalbant gave a speech after the election of board of directors. “Since we took charge in 2015, we success-

fully represented the sector with in the Turkish Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) machinery council, Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (İTO), Istanbul Chamber of Industry (İSO), and The Turkish Machinery (MAİB). In this context, we participated in many congress and panel workshops and we organized some of them ourselves. We attended in sectorial trade fairs and organizations both in homeland and abroad. We always felt your hearty support during all of these actions. The contributions of all our friends in the sector can never be ignored. Textile machineries are standing by the struggles of you dear friends. The government assistance should be increased in production of textile machines in order to carry this struggle further. We, as the association are wrestling with” said Mr. Nalbant.

TAKING OVER IN İSKİD The new board of directors of the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Manufacturers’ Association (İSKİD) took up position under the presidency of Taner Yönet.

he regular general assembly of the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Manufacturers’ Association was held with participation of İSKİD member on January 25. Chairman of the board of directors Cem Savcı and the committees presented the completed projects and activities during 2015-2016 period of general assembly. Following the presentation of their previous term work, a plaque was given to the heads of the commissions for their successful work. Members appointed the İSKİD’s 13th term management committee, discipline committee, and oversight committee in the elections held in the general assembly. The newly elected board of directors realized its first meeting after election. Mr. Taner Yönet was elected as the
board chairman, Mr. Cem Savcı and Mr. Ozan Atasoy were elected as the board vice chairmen, Mr. Zeki Özen was elected as the general secretary, and Mr. Hakan Dönmez was elected as the accountant by unanimous vote. Taner Yönet gave a speech after the election of board of directors. “We will carry out great projects with our senior fellow board of directors and our committees that can think analytically. We believe that İSKİD’s successful activities will continue to perform in the new period as well” said Mr. Yönet. İSKİD was founded in 1992 in order to provide solutions for the problems of members by providing cooperation between manufacturers of air-conditioning and cooling. The Association increased the number of its members over 100 last year and reached 90 percent of its market in Turkey.

EVER-GROWING SECTOR: TURKISH MACHINE Global conditions, fluctuations in the market, movements in the domestic market had an impact on machinery sector as every sector had it in 2016. Despite collapse in global trade in 2016, the Turkish machinery increased the export. Last 15 years, Turkish machine sector extended export volume 700 percent and continued to be one of the key sectors in Turkish economy.

016 was another year filled with problems. The 4 percent loss in the global economy was also effective in machine sector. According to the World Trade Organization’s estimates for 2016, global machinery exports, which amounted to 1.47 trillion dollars in 2015, fell back to 1.43 trillion dollar. While production and consumption were stopped around the world

in 2016, Turkey was certainly influenced by this process. While Turkey’s general export closed the year with a loss of 1 percent, machine sector export continued to grow. Machine sector increased the export volume 0.7 percent last year. Although the declines in the global arena, Turkish machine sector, which proved a positive performance in export, added value to the Turkish economy with high technology
products exported to 200 countries around the world, mainly EU countries, Russia, USA, and African countries. According to Turkish Exporters Assembly (TİM) data, there were only four sectors that increased export in 2016. The Turkish machine sector increased its exports weight by 5.8 dollars while its exports increased by 1.7 percent by quantity. The Turkish machine sector exported 2.3 mil-
lion tons of machinery over 200 countries. Despite economical and political problems in Turkey and in global market, instability and wars in our export markets, loss in commodity markets, and protectionist policies around the world, the increases achieved by the Turkish machine sector are naturally very important. Experts said that 0.7 percent of the increase in export is the best possible outcome. So the Turkish machine sector continues to give direction to the growth of the Turkish economy. EXPORT WENT UP 700 PERCENT IN 15 YEARS In the great scheme of things, I can be better observed how the total export value of the Turkish machine sector has leaped in the last 15 years. The Turkish machine sector had an export capacity of only 1.7 billion dollars in 2001, a year before the establishment of the Machinery and Accessories Exporters’ Association (MAİB). This figure rose to 13.4 billion dollars by 2016. The
size of the increase is striking: 688 percent. While Turkey’s total exports created 8 percent surplus value in the period 20052015, the Turkish machine sector achieved an annual growth rate of 16 percent in exports. The sector continues to increase its share of Turkey’s total exports over the years. This figure was above 10 percent threshold in January-November 2016. All these data are becoming more important, in view of both Turkish economy, and global economy have experienced very deep
crisis in recent 15 years. The loss in the global economy has still been continuing. The global machine sector could only reach the export level of 2010, in JanuaryNovember 2016. It is a success that the Turkish machine sector increased by 31 percent in the 2010-2016 period; export volume reached 13.4 billion dollars in 2016 from 10 billion dollars in 2010. It is not surprise that the volume of exports in the same period increased by 35 percent and jumped from 1.7 million tons to 2.3 million tons.

GROWTH IN TARGET MARKET Another important success of the Turkish machine sector is acquirements in target markets last years. As is known, the main target markets of the sector are listed as Germany and USA that are also leading countries in global machinery exports. The Turkish Machinery have organized a number of events aimed at the target markets and participated in a total of 12 global trade fairs in leading three countries. So the Turkish Machinery had the fruits of their work. The Turkish Machinery increased export to Germany by 3.1 percent, to USA by 2 percent, to Italy to 12 percent in 2016. The highest value-added machine was exported to USA and Germany in 2016. The export value of machinery that exported to Germany was 8.8 dollar while the export value of machinery that exported to USA was 12 dollar. Thus the Turkish Machinery have thrust the world’s most powerful machine manu-

facturers on the power, quality, technology, and high added value of ‘Growing Machine of Turkey. From this perspective, it can be said that the Turkish Machinery is the best evaluator of the market, especially after the 2009 crisis. MAIN CAUSES OF GROWTH The Turkish Machinery have increased the export volume 31 percent in the period of 20102016, while global production centre China rose machine export 8 percent, Germany, USA, Italy, Japan that have dominated the world machinery export, made no progress. Behind this success is a strong structure, an organization, and determination to succeed. The Turkish Machinery has been increasing R&D spending compared to the previous year. As it can be remembered, Expenditures in machine production reached 600 million dollars and constituted 10 percent of Turkey’s total R&D expenditures in 2014. While the sector is upgrading the training levels of engineers
and intermediate staffs, continues to diversify its production portfolio and gives added value to its production. The Turkish Machinery has exported to the world’s most powerful machine manufacturers at higher price. So this indicates the technological competence of the Turkey Machinery is increasing every year. On the other hand, these strong trading partners continue to be the driving force for further diversification of production and for the promotion of technology. Nevertheless, the Turkish Machinery continues to export machine to almost every country around the world. 60 percent of the Turkish Machinery’ exports are to Europe and USA markets, the other 40 percent exports are to other countries. New markets are constantly compensating the losses in 40 percent. The Turkish Machinery that have reached a much wider geographical area on a global scale compared to the past, will continue to increase their acquirements with the revival of potential markets.
THE TURKISH MACHINERY IS DYNAMIC IN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION VEMASinnovativ is one of the strategic partners of the Turkish Machinery in Germany. Prof. Dr. Dieter H. Weidlich expressed that the synergies that two institutions have put forward by hand will strengthen the Turkish Machinery in international competition so the collaboration will continue to grow.

ould you acquaint VEMASinnovativ with your own word? VEMASinnovatic was established in January 2014. The aim of VEMASinnovativ is the strengthening of the performance and the competiveness of the saxon mechanical engineering and plant construction companies. VEMASinnovativ’s business lines are technology transfer, support of innovation processes, market development, and professionals. Could you flesh technology transfer out? The main aim of technology transfer is to strengthen and support the competiveness of the companies. This aim will be achieved through: Presentation of new research results, inclusion of problems/needs of the companies in future research projects, and discussion of new topics in industrialism circles. When and how have your strategic partnership alliances been started with the Turkish Machinery? The partnership alliance started with the signed memorandum of understanding during the trade fair WIN 2014 in Istanbul in presence of the Saxon State Minister for Economic Affairs, Labor and Transport. We have three main areas of cooperastion with Turkish machinery:
Support cooperations between saxon and Turkish companies, implementation of workshops and forums concerning innovative technologies, collaboration concerning R&D.
Konya and Bursa. Bilateral contacts to Turkish companies, institutions and research organisations. Some company visits of Turkish companies in Germany.
What sort of synergy brings VEMASinnovativ and the Turkish Machinery strategic partnership into the machinery? The scope of VEMASinnovativ and the Turkish Machinery cooperation is to access to new high-end production technology, to access to applied research (new materials, new technologies), technology transfer, and intercultural experience. There are organizations, and activities that carried out during the collaboration. Organisation and implementation of a Turkish-saxon cooperation forum on the trade fair Intec 2015 and 2017 in Leipzig. The training program with Turkish companies at the Fraunhofer IWU, Chemnitz, Germany. Saxon-Turkish technology forums in
In what areas can the Turkish Machinery work together with the Fraunhofer Institute in order to become up-to-date with transformation of the manufacturing technology? We can work together on European level research programs or bilateral German-Turkish research programs. Including training programs. VEMASinnovativ and the Turkish Machinery are involved in the EU joint project. So that strengthens bilateral collaborations between companies and research institutions of both regions. Further education of Turkish companies in the field of high-end production technologies is a result of the project.
