DRIVING AND DEMENTIA CMH125 Driving is a highly involved and complex task, even for the best drivers on the road. Once someone starts to develop the symptoms of dementia, driving navigation can become very difficult and dangerous for those behind the wheel and to other drivers that share the road. It can be difficult for caregivers and persons with dementia to determine when it’s time to stop driving and to have the conversations that need to take place when it’s time to take away the keys. This presentation focuses on healthy driving skills and how they change and decline throughout the initial stages of dementia and the importance of planning and having conversations about how to stop driving when the time comes and how to implement these difficult and critical decisions. ABOUT OUR PROGRAMS COMMUNITY EDUCATION 210.397.8100 Since the establishment of the Community Education Department in 1984, Northside Independent School District has fostered the concept of lifelong learning for all members of our society. Dedicated to the idea that the school is the center of the community, our doors remain open during “non-traditional” hours to offer educational opportunities that will enrich the lives of people both personally and professionally. LEARNING TREE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM 210.397.8108 Learning doesn’t stop when the bell rings. The Learning Tree After School program provides a safe and positive environment for children while parents are still at work. Youth leaders engage students in enriching activities, homework help, and recreation. Enrichment activities are guided by Problem Based Learning principles. Lessons adhere to the same standards teachers use, The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

We support Northside Independent School District’s mission by encouraging the community to strive for personal excellence and lifelong learning beyond the classroom.
