If you can hear and remember music and you know just a little bit about how music is put together, you can learn to do this too and we can teach it to you in this one session. We can also teach you how to transpose music and even how to get music off of recordings. Prior experience with chords is recommended. Gardening in a Drought? GAR114 Yes, it can be done, but you have to have your “act together” or it just won’t work. The droughts in the last few years have made a huge impact on our yards and gardens and, as a result, many people have decided to finally do something about it. In this class we discuss soils, building raised beds, organic gardening, fertilizer, compost and mulch, pest control, and watering conservatively.

Haircuts for Your Plants (Pruning) GAR107 Pruning is one of those gardening tasks that most people just can’t or won’t do. The truth of the matter is that plants actually need some pruning to help them bloom, set fruit, and/ or generally prosper...believe it or not. And, they will respond according to how they are pruned. You will also learn what not to do. Instructor: T. Harris Tuition: $19 Tu 1 session 3/20

Not That Kind of Drip! This Kind of Drip (Irrigation) GAR113 It isn’t “rocket science” as they say and it’s not all that expensive. All you need is a pair of scissors, some tubing and a few small parts and you’re all set. You can build enough in one morning to do all your beds. The neat thing about drip irrigation is that it ALWAYS puts the water where it’s needed and, if you purchase a battery-powered timer, WHEN it’s needed.

The Nitty-gritty of Gardening: Soils, Fertilizer & Composting GAR108 Soil is the starting point for gardening. Fertilizing is what we have to do to help the plants grow and prosper. Composting is nature’s way of recycling the leaves, grass clippings, and other vegetative materials that nourish the soil and bring it back to life. In this class, we will cover all three topics, plus when, where and why you use compost as a natural supplement. Chi Gong Exercise (I Chin Ching) HAW112 I Chin Ching or Yijin jing roughly translates to the “change of tendon and muscle.” The idea is that by tensing your muscles through static holds/stretches and dynamic motions you can build stronger, more flexible muscles and tendons, while achieving better balance and coordination. That’s a lot of promise for just 49 exercises! Many of the Qi Gong exercises are similar to yoga postures and these can be done by anyone. The Learning Tree After School program provides a safe and positive environment for children while parents are still at work. Youth leaders engage students in enriching activities, homework help, and recreation. Enrichment activities are guided by Problem Based Learning principles. Lessons adhere to the same standards teachers use, The Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
