FILLED WITH GRACE IN TACOMA Learn about South Sound Japanese Americans Before WWII. Experience history through period music, interactive activities, art, and more at the Washington State Historical Society in Tacoma. Artifacts on display include photos of pre-war Japanese American life in Washington, traditional clothing, suitcases, dolls, and a diorama showing the layout of "Camp Harmony" at the Puyallup Fairgrounds. CHAIR YOGA Chair yoga is a gentle form of yoga that is practiced sitting on a chair, or standing using a chair for support. GENTLE RESTORATIVE YOGA Reconnect your mind, body, and spirit. Join us for a flowing sequence of gentle and supported yoga postures, breath work, and meditation. Gentle Yoga is a gentle, relaxing practice that provides an effective way to reduce stress, manage treatment side effects, relieve pain, regain health, and attain peace of mind. This class is appropriate for all levels and no prior yoga experience is needed. The instructor, Cindy Jaffe, will teach you how to use your mind, body, and breath in yoga to safely compliment medical treatments and improve mental well-being by enhancing concentration and relaxation abilities. She will give you the tools and teach you the skills to increase the body’s healing ability.

Learn to converse in Japanese! Miyuki Mitsumoto helps you to learn basic Japanese words, phrases, and greetings for various occasions - traveling, shopping, and dining. English will mainly be used for explanations. Hiragana and Katakana reading skills are not required.

Let’s kanikapila! Nikkei Horizons has four ukulele bands- Kimochi, Niko Niko, Na Aikane and Hana Ho, focusing on improving playing skills in a warm, fun, and nurturing atmosphere. Bands meet twice a month and are led by John Iwai, A.C. Arai, Dick Nagaoka, Minako Brunelle and Bill Evenson. Annual Membership is required to join band activities. HAWAIIAN HULA Hula is a wonderful low-impact exercise that tells a story through graceful, expressive movements with beautiful Hawaiian music. You will learn basic steps and some Hawaiian language while enjoying the essence of Hawaiiana. This class fits all levels. Beginners are welcome.

Learn to paint on rice paper with Asian ink and watercolor. Students paint various subjects including traditional sumi motifs such as bamboo, flowers, mountains, and trees.
