Day 3: Saturday, August 3 — Tokyo – Niigata – Nagaoka Fireworks Festival

Nagaoka Fireworks Festival is held yearly on the 1st and 2nd of August in Nagaoka City in Niigata. This small town will be filled with people and is said to be the most desirable fireworks festival in Japan. Enjoy the two-hour festival with over 20,000 fireworks, shot from a 1.2-mile wide barge on the Shinano River. The highlight is the largest Shosanshakudama (3-feet long) shell in the world, which spreads out 2,000 feet wide in the sky! **Guaranteed reserved seating! Day 5: Monday, August 5 — Nagaoka – Omiya – Aomori – Nebuta Festival

Nebuta Festival was designated as an

Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property in 1980. “Nebuta” refers to the floating brave warrior figures which are carried through the center of the city by over 50,000 dancers who move to rhythm of Japanese taiko and flute music! ** Guaranteed reserved seating! Around two hundred bamboo poles, five to twelve meters long, bearing twentyfour or forty-six lanterns, topped with gohei, and weighing up to 110 pounds, are carried through the streets during the night on the palms, foreheads, shoulders, or lower backs of the celebrants. Horizons reserves the right to cancel the tour if it does not meet minimum participation requirements; cancel a participant registration if the tour activity level exceeds the participant’s physical and mental abilities and will charge for cancellation.
