EDITORIAL

MARTIN JOSE Welcome to the Voice for September, We would like to send a special welcome to all the new tenants who have moved in over the last couple of months. It is fantastic to see all the flats now in use, and even better that a lot of them have been allocated to our local families, bringing the great Old Hill boys back to the estate where they belong. There are still a few properties awaiting repair but we hope to get them re–let as soon as possible. Here at the Resource Centre we will have to make some changes! This is due to Nicola leaving us to go to college.(Good luck Nic). This means that on some days we may have to close the office early while I attend meetings etc. We will try our best to always give warning of the days we need to close. Watch the window for more information. The Editor.

Police Report Welcome to the first article I have drafted for the Voice since I started my employment with the Devon and Cornwall Police in 2007. At that time I wrote a piece to introduce myself to the .community and then went on to police a different area of Falmouth. I have now been back in the Penwerris Ward as your PCSO for three months and am enjoying the new challenge. We have had a steady period with very little crime in the area during the summer months. We have seen a couple of shed breaks in the Old Hill area and I ask you all to be vigilant and lock all sheds and out houses as

ÂŁ30:00 VERY GOOD CONDITION WITH STABILIZERS CONTACT KAY ON 01326 314414

these provide rich pickings for opportunist thieves. Bike theft has seen a small increase during the warmer weather with the most common cause being unattended cycles with no locks. I will be holding a police surgery at the Resource Office on the last Thursday of each month, with the next one being held on the 29th of September. If you have any concerns or need advice please call in for a chat. For an emergency call 999 other enquiries call 08452 777444. Regards Sean McDonnell 30276

Carrick Housing. Carrick Housing Falmouth office is on the Move. From the 3rd October the Housing Officers and Assistant Housing Officer will not be based at the One Stop Shop at Falmouth. This makes substantial savings and utilises office space we have elsewhere in Falmouth. This new office, though, will not have reception or appointment facilities for tenants. We will still be available for telephone contact and are arranging drop in sessions for tenants. These will be for six hours a week between 9.00 in the morning till 12.00 on two separate days. The Tuesday session will be at the Beacon Resource Centre, Grenville Road, Falmouth and the Wednesday morning session will be at the One Stop Shop in Penryn.

Cornwall Council’s services at the One Stop Shop will still be available. This includes paying your rent and council tax, enquiring about housing benefit and reporting any housing repairs issues. You can also continue to drop into the One Stop Shop to use the Freephone service to contact us for any housing or estate concerns as well. As stated above, this change is not coming into force until the first week of October. However please be patient with us during this period until we get used to this new working practice on our part. Remember this is a big change for us as well as for tenants in the Falmouth Penryn area, Carrick Housing have been based in the office in Church Street for over 9 years. Our concern as housing officers is to provide you with a continued best service possible through this period of change. Hopefully this change of office will go without a hitch and we will be up and running by the 3rd October 2011. Patrick Fielder Assistant Housing Officer Falmouth/Penryn

Urgent Warning It appears that there is a new way for the dishonest out there to make money from the vulnerable or elderly. If you receive a phone call offering you money to have increased insulation but an inspection of your loft has to take place, do not take up this offer or let these people in. You will be asked to verify this fictional offer with the council. This is said on the basis that most want. However we have received two or three phone calls from concerned tenants that have phoned us up regarding this. This is not a scheme that is being offered by Carrick Housing or Cornwall Council and we are certain this “offer” is to enable these people to gain access to your property. If you are unsure of any callers or visitors to your property do not let them in. All legitimate callers, including those from Carrick Housing, will not be offended if you are unsure of who they are and wish for them to come back after a proper written appointment has been made. We were lucky to get help from the Falmouth Water Front Crew who helped us to clean the surface rubbish from the all weather pitch before the road sweeper came in and swept the rest. By the time this letter goes to print Phase three of the Park will be finished, at this moment in time we are waiting for the swings to come on to site.
