EDITORIAL Hi Folks, With July about to start we will be holding our annual fun day on Sunday the 10th at Dracaena Playing Fields. There will be lots to do for all ages so come along and have a great day out, we will see you there. You may have noticed that there are a lot of empty flats on Old Hill. This is because Carrick Housing need to carry out major repairs on many of the blocks and other blocks are to be used for the tenants who need to be moved out while the repairs are carried out. We still have not received a date when these flats will be completed but as soon as we find out we will let you all know. Finally we are looking for your help by telling us if there is a service you would like to see run from the office. We cannot promise everything but we will try to help if at all possible. Call in at the office with your ideas. Thanks The Editor

Well, that is it now! We have had the longest day, the nights are drawing in and it is the build up to Christmas. For those that are interested I have a countdown on my phone and as I type this there are 185 days, 17 hours, 7 minutes, and 55 seconds till Christmas.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LYNDA WHITFIELD 23RD JULY FROM ALL YOUR FAMILY XX

Yes, I know, I get called all sorts of names by those that I bore with this continuous countdown. I am frequently told that we haven’t even had summer yet. Well for those that feel like this and, I assure you, those that feel this way are by far in the majority. In fact I know of only one other person who is interested in my countdown. So rather than talk about Christmas I suppose I should mention that the school summer holidays are due to start. This is always a problematic time and the complaints of children outside playing on the estates and surrounding areas increases. Generally these complaints are of very low level incidents and are simply that, children playing! There is an element of that they can’t do anything right. Quite often the young are accused of sitting in their rooms continually playing on their games consoles. When they do go outside we will get phone calls that there are “gangs” of youths, louts, hoodies, thugs (the most frequent phrases used) hanging about. This is unfair as generally they are just being children behaving, as children always have behaved. It is in this modern age that this behaviour is now complained about as “anti social”.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO NIGEL KEMP 8TH JULY LOVE FROM THE WHOLE FAMILY

Carrick Housing will receive complaints that “a tent has been put up on a communal area: they are sitting on the pavement outside my house: there is a gang of kids shouting at each other: they are kicking a ball about.” This sort of complaint blocks the system up as we do have to respond and investigate. We do have to check that it is not a tent put up by a homeless person. We do check by doing a drive past on what the children outside the house are doing. As we are not on the scene where the complainant is, we do advise that if they are concerned or worried then to phone the police. Most often these are children being children and enjoying each others company, life, their summer break from school and, hopefully some warm, sunny weather. Parents are reluctant to allow their children to wander off too far as I did when I was young and as we all did if you are over a certain age. So children now do play closer to home.

BIRTHDAY WISHES TO SUE IRONS ON THE 2ND AUGUST LOVE FROM US ALL

HO YEA HO YEA

DRACAENA CENTRE WOULD LIKE TO WISH ALL OLD AND PAST MEMBERS A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY

You will always get those individual children who do go too far and their actions do go over the line into anti social behaviour. However we are lucky that this is not the problem as it is in other parts of the country. So please, allow children to be children and just enjoy watching them enjoying life, the area they live in and, hopefully, we can all enjoy a warm, sunny and peaceful summer break. By the way for those that are interested, there are now 185 days, 16 hours, 48 minutes and 17 seconds till Christmas. Patrick Fielder Carrick Housing

Old Hill Community Association Hi Everyone, Hope you are all enjoying the summer! The garden competition is taking place at the end of July. If you would like to enter your garden please pick up a form from the Beacon Resource Office. Graham Whitfield’s memorial plaque is now in place, it is in the office, please pop in and have a look. We are sorry that it has taken so long to put in place but we had several hiccups with the engraving and surround. So we send our sincere apologies to Grahams’ family for the time it has taken. The bingo is going well and with increased numbers again, we are introducing a membership system, this will be £1 per annum per person. The membership will start in August till the following August. We seem to be having a lot of trouble with uncovered waste bins. If you know anyone who is doing this, please let a committee member know and we will deal with it as it is not only unsightly but an environmental issue. I hope you can attend the fun day on July 10th at the Dracaena Centre Playing fields, please come as it is a jolly good day out.

We have been able to get a tidy up of footpaths (we are still campaigning for a complete clean up of the whole estate) There are regular walkabouts on the Estate with a Carrick Officer, sometimes the Police and members of the LLAMA committee. We have built up a good relation with the police (Neighbourhood Beat Manager Mat Cummins and our PCSO Janthea Kingston) Housing Officers and Local Councillors. We are keeping up to date with schemes and projects proposed, carried out by Falmouth Town Council and Cornwall Council. There have been bollards put in place. First and foremost this is to ensure the safety of young and old because there have been vehicles driving along and also parking on the grass verges in front of Trecarne and Pengelly. On Saturday 28th May LLAMA held a cream tea afternoon at N Joy Hairdressers, although not many turned up, we believe those that did enjoyed themselves. It was quite enjoyable to sit down and have some thing to eat, drink and have a chat to people you don't see on a day to day basis. LLAMA would also like to thank PCSO Sean McDonnell for being able to come and have a cream tea with us.
