It will be held every other Thursday. Each afternoon is £2. This includes tea and biscuits. Anyone is welcome to come along. We don't take it too seriously and we have a good afternoon. ‘Have Your Say...’ Update Penwerris Neighbourhood Team has met with local councillors to discuss possible solutions for the priorities of ‘Speeding’, ‘Parking’ and ‘Dog’s Mess’. Speeding – We will look to engage with the Falmouth Primary to conduct more ‘School Speed Watch’ sessions to educate drivers in the dangers of exceeding the speed limit.

Tel: 01326 212201 Offering a full range of hair services for all the family at realistic prices. Matrix Biolage Hair Products Not tested on Animals

Parking – There is very little that can be done about parking in the area due to the nature of the roads and volume of vehicles on the road however we hope that work done previously to kerb dangerous parking habits may soon be implemented which should assist greatly in achieving something towards this priority. Dog’s Mess – We have decided that an attempt to educate dog walkers by way of increased signage and awareness may help to alleviate the issue. If this doesn’t work, we will look into enforcement. Operations are also being planned for our worst affected areas. Falmouth Police Facebook site Falmouth Police have launched their own Facebook page. The page is designed to not only give information about the activities of your local Police service but to also give users visiting the page the chance to join in with discussions and debates. Other items of note to be posted on the page will include:

Street Reps The Neighbourhood Watch extension, ‘Street Reps’, is now being extended into the Boslowick and Trescobeas wards of Falmouth. The decision to do so was made after a large amount of interest was shown by former NHW co-ordinators. The Street Reps scheme empowers residents to deal with minor issues in their locality. Anyone interested in joining the Street Reps, please feel free to contact us for further details. Regards,

LLAMA Hi folks, Hope everyone is out and about enjoying the weather, hopefully this is not our summer come early again. Just to update you on our last report, The Falmouth Town Council have been successful in obtaining the grant they applied for from Sita. This was for £25.000 for phase three, the children’s play area on the park. As yet we have not heard from them when the work will start. Hopefully it will be quite soon. The L.L.A.M.A. Events committee are busy organising two events . The first one will be a cream tea afternoon weather permitting. It will be on May Day Bank Holiday. This will be at Hayman way. The second will be our Annual Fun Day again weather permitting. Hopefully we will put on the B.M.X. Trial again as this proved popular with 45 entries last year. Let’s see if we can get a few more this year. We will of course keep you informed on time and dates. We sadly have had a spate of cars being damaged around Trecarne and Kerensa Green, two cars have had panels kicked in and one had their wing mirror pulled off, this is upsetting for the owners of these vehicles as the panels that were kicked have been left with considerable damage. So if you are not able to put your cars in your garage try and keep a check on them as often as possible. The second thing is there is a small minority who for some reason do not pick up after their dogs, I don’t know if you are aware that this was one of the priorities that was voted on for the police to act on when they had the forms back from the Have Your Say. Sadly one of our committee members who does pick up after their dog has had an anonymous letter sent, The tone of the letter was as foul as the dog’s mess that is left behind for children and adults to walk in.

Dear Parishioner We recently came across an elderly lady living in our parish who was not aware that there was a local C of E Parish Church in Penwerris. Some kind neighbours who worship in another church in Penryn contacted me and arranged to bring her to St Michael & All Angels’ Church, Penwerris one Sunday and she has been with us ever since! This incident served to remind me that we still need to get the word out into the community about our Sunday services at Penwerris and our mid-week service at the Church of the Holy Spirit, Laburnum Hall. We meet every Sunday @ 10.00 at Penwerris Church for our Parish Mass/Eucharist and every Wednesday @ 10.00 am at the Church of the Holy Spirit. Many people do not realise that a church service also takes place at the Laburnum Hall site every Wednesday. We have built up a growing, regular congregation on Wednesday and about half of those who worship with us on Sundays also come to our mid-week service as well. There must be number of confirmed members of the Church of England who live in our parish who no longer attend worship, a warm welcome awaits you at either of our Churches! If you are Baptised/Christened but have never been Confirmed, but are interested in becoming a communicant member of the Church, there will be Confirmation Group meeting in the Summer. Please contact Fr Mark for more information about this or any other matter connected with the Church [01326 218947] If we are able to start work on the restoration of Penwerris Church this Summer or Autumn, the Church will be temporarily closed for five months while the work is taking place. In which case, Sunday services will also be held at our Mission Church of the Holy Spirit. Fr Mark Mesley, Parish Priest, Penwerris

Old Hill Community Association We hope you all had a happy and peaceful Easter. Summer is on the way so we will all be able to get out in the garden and enjoy some sunshine, hopefully. We will be arranging a general meeting for the end of May. There will be free prize bingo, tea and refreshments so please come along. The fortnightly bingo sessions are going strong as is the 100 club, if you would like to join us, please do. The bingo is held at the Dracaena Centre on the same day as you recycling is collected (Wednesdays), so it is an easy way to remember the dates. There are still some spare numbers for the 100 club, if you would like one, contact either: Shirley 212247 Sandra 319331 Tracy 317257 Our monthly meetings are held on the first Tuesday of each month at 6.30pm in the Resource Office. You are welcome to come along at any time, contact any of the above if you would like to join us. Finally we hope that Marcia Wengradt had a happy 70th birthday on the 19th April.

Fal Fire Supports the Beacon Partnership Estate Walk Season. It is that time of year when estate walks take place. So far this year the issues that have been raised during these walks have been less than the same time last year. Unfortunately a recurring theme is width of hedges at the front of properties where there is a public footpath. This is an increasing problem. Unkempt hedges are obviously a priority however; it is unfortunate that hedges that have been well maintained over the years have still encroached over onto public paths. It is important that these hedges are trimmed back to the garden boundary to ensure pavement width is not restricted. In some areas the width can be so restricted that parents with buggies or generally the older resident with shopping trolleys have to go onto the road to pass by. It would be appreciated that those that have a hedge that may fall into this category have a look and see if it is growing over the pavement please. Generally the area covered by The Voice is in fairly good state. There are isolated areas that need some TLC (tender loving care). However a consistent problem is with litter. This does seem to be on the increase. Whether this is because of lack of bins, bins not being emptied often enough or people throwing their rubbish on the ground or convenient hedge are difficult to say. Whilst those that are younger generally get the blame for this, I do think we all need to take responsibility: including the local council in ensuring that bins are kept in good working order, are emptied and are provided in places that they are needed and will be used. Another issue that causes greatest concern and complaints is the amount of dog’s mess on the pavements, grass and play areas. This problem is not getting any better. Dogs do not seem to be roaming the streets in large numbers without their owners. This means that those owners are simply not clearing up after their dog or dogs. After years of information regarding this issue it is sad that this is still a huge problem. It should be noted that a fixed penalty of £80 is possible if an owner does not clear up after their dog and if prosecuted a fine of £1,000 can be given. If dog’s mess is a persistent problem then this can be reported on the Cornwall Council web site. The more complaints received the more likely it is that the Cornwall Council dog warden will investigate. As the summer progresses hopefully these problems will ease and we can all enjoy the area where we live, in a clean, rubbish and dog mess free environment. Well, we can only hope that is the case as one can wish for a warm, sunny summer ahead. Patrick Fielder Carrick Housing.
