The collection also streams vision from Spanish Impressionist Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida whose paintings earned him the title “master of light”.

FIX by Jennifer Costanzo Fashion’s obsession with shoulders could be seen all over the Spring/ Summer 2017 runway shows. Many designers looked to the Eighties when dreaming of spring shows, with heavily embellished looks through ruching, puffy sleeves, singleshoulder dresses and body-tight pants. There was a heavy emphasis placed on the shoulder, whether it was heavily padded to create boxy shaped tops, jackets or dresses, seen at Balenciaga, Louis Vuitton and Chanel. Or rather the one-shoulder trend, where numerous designers juxtaposed an exposed shoulder with a fully covered arm; shoulders were the stars of Spring 2017. If you thought the cold-shoulder trend was in the past, you could not have been more wrong. It is back and bigger than ever this season. The off-the-shoulder trend is still here, however, it has changed slightly. This style of one exposed shoulder can be for everyone. Whether you are on the modest side or prefer something sportier, there is a oneshoulder trend for you. This trend is not replacing the cold-shoulder trend completely; which was still seen on the Spring 2017 runways, but rather it is an evolution of the aesthetic. The deconstructed shirting trend is the more professional style that came out of the one shoulder

Another variation on the style can be seen at Rochas where single sleeve pieces were predominant. This style is both strong but also romantic, leaving one arm fully exposed while the other is completely covered.

This trend is fun and flirty, with inspiration taken from the Eighties and movies like Flashdance. This style may not be for everyone, and if it isn’t for you, go back to the off the shoulder trend, which was seen at Proenza Schouler and Diane Von Furstenburg, mixed with other Spring/Summer 2017 trends. Not sure if you can pull the shade off? Think again! This season there is a yellow for everyone. Seen on runways across New York, London, Milan and Paris, yellow is popping up everywhere. This color will indeed make an impact on your wardrobe, right now and through spring/summer 2017. The color trend forecaster, Pantone, has deemed ‘Primrose Yellow’ one of the trending colors for spring 2017. This color sparkles with heat and vitality, inviting us into its warmth. This joyful shade takes us to a destination marked by enthusiasm, good cheer and sunny days. Even if we are not used to this color, take a moment to think of how the color can change an outfit. Seen at Delpozo, Jason Wu, Erin Fetherston, Creatures of Comfort and Kate Spade, yellow infused the fashion shows through an optimistic fashion trend. The unexpected color dominated the runway season. However, it was not only seen on the catwalk, but also on the red carpet. Viola Davis and Natalie Portman wore yellow successfully at the Golden Globes, embracing this pop of color through romantic silhouettes.

Traveling to Bali has been a dream of mine - to spend time enveloped by its ancient culture, incredibly friendly people and awe inspiring landscapes. Getting to Bali was a big part of the fun. Flying from Hong Kong, I had heard about some of the regional airlines with cramped cabins, questionable cuisine and frequent delays. So, I chose to travel with Cathay Pacific Airlines, from Hong Kong to Denpasar, Bali and it was a lovely flight. The cabin was spacious and clean, the food was regional and delicious and the five-hour flight literally flew by! Arriving at the Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, Bali was an assault on the senses -

the arrivals terminal is open-air so the heat hits you instantly. It can be quite loud coming through the gate. There are throngs of people everywhere you look - some waiting for travelers; many trying to sell you transportation or tickets to a local attraction. Emerging from the crowd was a smiling Balinese man dressed in crisp white linen. He introduced himself as my driver, and would escort me to the Four Seasons Bali at Jimbaran Bay,
were settled in restaurants and along the side of the road by food vendors, enjoying an evening meal. The colors of Denpasar and the melding of ancient ways and modern technologies is truly fascinating, and something every traveler should experience. About twenty five minutes later, and just barely outside of Denpasar, we arrived at the shores of absolute paradise.
EXPERIENCING THE F OU R SE AS ON S I N BA L I He deftly gathered my luggage, and whisked me away into a cool car. I was grateful to have a driver navigating the frenetic streets of Denpasar. It was early evening and the city was pulsing with daily life. The streets were filled with motor scooters - literally thousands of them! It seemed to be the smartest way to navigate the traffic. Despite the congestion, I found the authenticity of the region to be amazing. Families
Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay doesn’t feel like a hotel - not even remotely. It feels like you are staying in a traditional Balinese village. The welcome area is filled with interesting and tasteful Balinese furniture and overlooks the 35-acre oceanfront property. There is no “main” building - just luxurious villas and several authentic style compound areas that offer dining, spa, boutique and poolside services.

• Air Travel: Getting to the island of Bali, Indonesia is very accessible from most cities. Choose a reputable airline with Asian expertise, like Cathay Pacific to ensure a pleasant and uneventful journey. Also, they offer beautiful limited edition amenity kits. I now travel everywhere with mine - it holds my passport and boarding passes! • Fashion: No matter what time of the year you visit Bali, be prepared for hot and humid weather. Take light clothing in natural fabrics and light colors (dark colors shows perspiration). Better yet, leave lots of empty space in your suitcase and purchase clothing in Bali. Beautiful dresses, beach pants, cover-ups and rompers are available everywhere and they are very affordable. • Beauty: With high humidity, unless you have amazing natural curly hair - ponytails, chic buns and sun hats are in order here. Also remember to include moisturiser with a high SPF in your daily routine and to apply sunblock to your skin throughout the day. Don’t forget about your lips, back of the neck and tops of the feet!

Each of the 147 villas sit on a hillside that rolls gently to the waters edge. Villa viewpoints explode with lush greenery, regional flowers, white beaches and blue waters. The property pays respect to island culture; the staff eager to share their music, cuisine, and harmonious way of life. Our thatched roof villa was tucked away behind a private stone-walled courtyard. It featured 3,200 square feet of indoor/outdoor space that included a very large living building with four poster bed, and massive spa-like bathroom. Outside, there was a second open air living space, peaceful gardens, a sun deck and a private infinity pool that overlooked the ocean. The hotel offers many activities for its guests and I personally recommend the Balinese dance performance and taking a cooking class at the on-site Jimbaran Bay Cooking Academy. Also available are catamaran sailing, helisurfing, art workshops and daily yoga classes including anti-gravity aerial yoga with soothing views. If you are a foodie, you’re in luck. The resort restaurants serve exceptional regional dishes, as well as Western cuisine. Allow extra time at breakfast to enjoy live musicians playing Balinese bamboo xylophones and to try the organic black quinoa and acai porridge, and hot Pecatu breakfast. Our departure from Jimbaran Bay came too soon, and I longed for more of this immersive feeling. So, we called Uber (yes Uber! and it cost just $160,500Rp or $12 USD) and traveled ninety minutes up WWW.NICHE.STYLE . 89

island to Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan - located just outside the popular Indonesian town of Ubud, made famous by the movie Eat, Pray, Love starring Julia Roberts. Indonesia’s Ubud region is magical. Landlocked in the middle region on the island of Bali, it has lush dense tropical forests, meandering rivers, a quaint town, interesting architecture and genuine sensibility. Four Seasons Resort Bali at Sayan considered all of these elements of Balinese culture, and then built a magnificent resort. Hugging the Ayung River, and embracing the existing rice fields, you know you have arrived somewhere different, and special and considerate, as you are welcomed to the property by one of the most awe-inspiring, jaw dropping and famous pieces of architecture in the world. Referred to as the rice bowl (see photo on page 92), you cross a wooden bridge that seemingly floats over the Sayan Valley and arrive at the massive elliptical lotus pond that is filled with Koi fish and water lilies. It is masterful and alluring. The resort has just 18 suites in the pavilion and 42 private villas tucked away amidst stunning natural beauty. From the accommodation to the dining rooms, everything was done thoughtfully with rich teak furniture and exotic hand woven fabrics. Our villa was so unique. The lotus ponds and meditation area on the roof (at street level) revealed a staircase that led down to the privacy of our riverfront Balinese
villa. Once again, the exquisitely decorated bedroom and massive spa bathroom were housed in one building, next to an outdoor living room with patio and private pool. The design touches in the dining and spa pavilion, including the artwork, multi-story floating staircase and Balinese antiquities are worthy of your time. A guide took us on the Rice Bowl Journey Walk, showing us around the 7-hectare property on
foot. It was a memorable way to experience the working rice fields, surrounding jungle, a thousand or more bird species (along with a few really big spiders!), river life and to see the lotus petal Dharma Shanti Bale for yoga and meditation. The walk ended at the Sacred River Spa, where I reveled in their signature Rice and Spice treatment that began with a body scrub using organic rice flour and freshly crushed wild ginger, followed by a full body massage - during which WWW.NICHE.STYLE . 91

time I was lulled to sleep by the natural rhythmic melodies outside the river-facing treatment room. It is true. Sunshine and tropical splendor can be had at numerous resorts, in many countries around the world. However, I promise you... they will not compare to this. Having stayed at Four Seasons hotels many times before, I thought I knew what to expect. Wrong. Four Seasons Resorts at Jimbaran Bay and Sayan are other worldly - a resort experience that provides the amenities you want, but in a setting that respects and honors its regional culture and invites you to come along, to open your mind and heart to the Balinese way of life. In the spotlight of media and politics, Jackie Kennedy paved a pathway of her own – becoming a timeless fashion icon. As the First Lady in the arms of John F. Kennedy, Jackie stood out from other iconic women of the time for her polished take on sixties fashion. To this day, she is still internationally known as “America’s most elegant First Lady”. Born Jacqueline Lee Bouvier in 1929 in New York, Jackie spent her early career years as a reporter and photographer before marrying Kennedy in 1953. With a jaw that could cut diamonds and a neck adorned in pearls, she always dressed the part, making proper dressing seem effortless from the moment she became America’s leading lady. It was not long before Jackie Kennedy was noted as a defining fashion trend setter of the 1960s. 96 . SPRING 2017
The “Jackie” look was everywhere – big glasses, French couture and exquisite shift dresses were imitated worldwide. After pairing up with American-based designer, Oleg Cassini to create over 300 outfits, Cassini earned his title as the First Lady’s “Secretary of Style” for his designs that contributed to her iconic style. Jackie also popularized designs by one of her former classmates, Lilly Pulitzer. Jackie Kennedy was featured in LIFE magazine donning one of Pulitzer’s shift dresses and it soon became known as Pulitzer’s most famous dress, “The Jackie Dress”. Jackie
Pearls are always appropriate. also favored French designers Chanel, Givenchy and Dior. Her signature style was achieved with well-tailored skirts and matching gloves that have been adored for decades after her departure from the White House. One of her most recognizable outfits was the pink skirt suit and pillbox hat worn the day her husband was assassinated. The suit became a symbol of an extremely dark day in American history. While off-duty on vacation, Jackie Kennedy always seemed to capture an essence of effortless perfection at its very best – something any woman would strive to acquire. It was during her travels with Kennedy to Central and South America and Europe that she became famous for her natural beauty, travel style, knowledge of languages and liberating sixties style with capri pants and bare feet.
