It’s safe to say that on a day-to-day basis, Marie Kelly avoids needles, but acupuncture is a completely different story. For starters, it doesn’t hurt. “Certain places you don’t feel and certain places you feel a needle but just for a minute,” she described. “And certain places I feel heat going in through the body.”
Nelson County native Lucy Larsen, Marie’s acupuncturist, first experienced acupuncture as a student at Piedmont Virginia Community College. A guest speaker in her Eastern Thinking class stuck one acupuncture needle in her left leg to relieve a stiffness in Lucy’s right shoulder. “It was indescribable,” she remembered. “It was a throbbing, heavy sensation, but energies were moving
