Message from Adam Sabga,Sector Head Ansa McAL Construction Sector, to mark the 60th anniversary of Berger Paints (B’dos) Limited ADAM SABGA, Sector Head Ansa McAL Construction Sector (GP)

THE BERGER BRAND is well known and loved in the Barbados market, and this year we turn 60 years. This is a significant milestone and is testimony to the brand strength and the passion and loyalty of our staff and customers who have allowed us to carve an indelible mark in the Barbados landscape.

The world is changing, our customers’ needs are also changing, and Berger is ready to change what we do and how we do things, all in service of our customers.

Over the recent past, we have expanded our retail footprint with the presence of three colour shops in the southern and northern parts of the island. What is the “Colour Shop”? It is a one-stop solution for our customers’ paint needs.

At these locations, we serve all our customers . . . from the paint experts, the architects, the contractors and of course the “do-it-yourselfers” who will need some more in-depth advice.

Our store is designed to guide the shopper’s experience based on their individual paint needs. Our aim is to make it convenient and easier for the consumer to make informed buying decisions.

We see ourselves as a paint solutions provider rather than a paint manufacturer, and our goal is to create an experience for our customers, so when they visit the colour shop, whether it’s a simple purchase, a colour consultation on your project, or advice on any of our wide range of products and its applications, our customer will

leave confident that their needs were met. We have these colour shops in three convenient locations: Worthing, Speightstown and Brandons.

Berger is known for its innovation, for example, the recent launch of Berger Brushing Solution – a product that can be used in tandem with textured surfaces like our Berger Trowel On. In 2022, we also launched our new colour system, which allows our customers to select from over 2 000 colours. In keeping with our sustainability initiative, this system offers a wide assortment of low-odour and low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) options in a variety of formats. Additionally, all our water-based paints are considered green and environmentally friendly. Our commitment to quality and the environment is further supported by two ISO certifications: ISO 9001-2008 – a quality management system standard and ISO 1401-2004 – an environmental management system standard.

Sixty years is a BIG deal for us, and Berger and the Ansa McAL Group remain committed to the Barbados market.

To this end, we are also re-engineering other areas of the business to better serve our customers,; for example, we recently expanded our warehouse capabilities and installed equipment to improve our product availability, and later this year, we will be launching a new CRM platform to better serve our customers. All these initiatives are part of our strategy to ensure our dominance and relevance for the next 60+ years.

Berger – a paint solutions provider

Message from Rhea Singh, General Manager of Berger Paints B’dos Limited, to mark the company’s 60th anniversary. RHEA SINGH, General Manager (Pictures by Brookes La Touche Photography.)

TAMEKA THOMPSON was recently promoted to the position of Regional Sales Manager. She brings to the position her exceptional sales acumen and strategic prowess, honed over nearly a decade of experience as a sales strategist. With a passion for sales and content creation/social media management, she brings a wealth of expertise to her new role.

Thompson leads a seasoned sales team comprising 11 staff members who collectively possess over 100 years of expertise in the paint industry. Together, they are dedicated to providing superior customer service, introducing new and improved products, and broadening the customer base across all of its sales channels.

Thompson is particularly excited about the growth achieved in the retail and projects channels so far in 2023. With the recent opening of the third Colour Shop, Berger Paints is now strategically located in the north, south, and central regions of Barbados. This has allowed the company to offer customers the convenience of a one-stopshopping experience for all their painting needs.

As an industry leader for 60 years, the company remains committed to delivering high-quality products, exemplified by one of our bestsellers, Weatherproof

Designed specifically for the Caribbean’s weather conditions, Weatherproof is the go-to choice for customers seeking reliable exterior, paint preservation solutions, thanks to its anti-fungal properties.

In addition to Weatherproof, Berger Paints takes pride in its interior solution, Royale, which has gained significant popularity among Barbadians looking to maintain the aesthetics and longevity of their interior walls. With its superior stain resistance, exceptional scrubbability, and virtually odourless composition, Royale is recommended for highly frequented

areas of the home.

Demonstrating their commitment to customer satisfaction, Berger Paints Barbados Limited, in collaboration with its parent company Ansa McAl, has made substantial investments in a new Customer Relationship Management (CRM) programme. This programme will enable the company to foster closer relationships with customers, tailoring its services effectively to meet their unique painting requirements.

Moreover, Berger Paints continues to drive innovation by introducing new product developments to its comprehensive paint range. One such addition was Brushing Solution, which has made Berger Paints the market leader in refreshing texture coatings. With the capability to provide this product in over 2 000 colours, the company offers an extensive range to meet our diverse customer preferences.

Another notable innovation is the Aquabase Automotive line, specifically designed for automotive painters. This revolutionary waterborne formula eliminates concerns about scent or residue, providing a more conducive working environment. Meeting all VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) regulations and incorporating the latest technology, Aquabase Automotive not only supports the Government’s green economy agenda but also aligns with Berger Paints’ ISO

4001 certification commitment.

With a customercentric approach, an extensive product range, a focus on quality and innovation and an extremely dedicated, passionate, and experienced sales team, Berger is poised for continued success throughout the remainder of 2023.

FOR THE PAST

60 YEARS, a keen focus on quality and consistency has enabled Berger Paints (Barbados)

Limited to manufacture some of the finest products in the industry. (FP)

BRITISH PAINTS started its operations at Garrison Hill, St Michael, in the early 1960s. It soon moved its operations to a more spacious facility in Fontabelle, St Michael, opposite Pickwick Gap (now Dacosta Mannings Tyre Centre). The incorporation of British Paints in 1963 led to its amalgamation with Berger Paints (Barbados) Limited in 1968. Under the leadership of its Barbadian manager, Tommy Knowles, the new company moved operations in 1971 to its current location at Exmouth Gap, Brandons, St Michael.

At that time, it employed 30 individuals. Fire destroyed the plant in 1995 and Berger Paints quickly rebuilt its operation, but in 1997 ire again gutted its operation.

This unfortunate event, however, did not daunt the spirit of the staff nor the enthusiasm of Berger to continue to manufacture some of the finest products in the industry. In October 2000, Berger Paints gained its first ISO 9002 certification for the management system.

In August 2003, a newer version was completed for the certification of its ISO 9001, endorsing the consistency in which the company’s operations were being managed and in keeping with its aim to establish and maintain international quality

standards.

In 2002, Asian Paints took over ownership of the Berger group of companies – including Berger Paints (Trinidad) Limited and Berger Paints (Jamaica) Limited. This change exposed the local operations to a far greater range of products, extensive work in research and development and affiliation with international brands, and allowed Berger (Barbados) to manufacture and distribute a range of products under license including Carboline International; DuPont – for the distribution of Chroma and Nason Automotive Finishes; Petit Marine and Cabot Stains.

In 2004 Berger introduced the Colour World Advanced Tinting System which offered consumers a fan deck of 1 320 colours. In addition to providing formulations for all previous Berger fan decks, this new system computerised and automated the tinting process and opened the brand to a whole new way of tinting paint.

In 2017, Berger Paints Limited in Barbados, Trinidad and Jamaica were purchased by the Ansa McAL Group. This group comprises 48 companies in over eight territories and offers world-renowned brands and product services and state-of-the-

art infrastructure in over 30 markets across the world and employs approximately 6 000 people.

Today, Berger Paints (Barbados) Limited provides support to all sectors of society, including sports, schools, colleges and other institutions; community efforts, disaster relief; social, cultural and other national activities.

The Berger team continues to look to the future with resolute optimism; driven by their commitment to service excellence, a passion for innovation and endless quests for creativity, the recognition of social responsibility as a good corporate citizen and the desire to serve the needs of all stakeholders, while developing a competent, skilled and dedicated workforce.

Customer satisfaction front of mind

Message from Karen Grant Government/Hotel Channel Sales Manager to mark the 60th anniversary of Berger Paints B’dos Limited

ON AUGUST 4th 2004, when I walked through the doors at Berger Paints as a marketing assistant, my focus and priorities were to build customer relations and create the best opportunities for customers and, by extension, their clients. Being customer-oriented afforded me the opportunity to move up the corporate ladder.

Exactly what is it that makes my job so much fun as well as rewarding?

“Giving of my best, my full attention, my time and honesty.” This honesty will lead customers to allow you to make purchases, not limited to paint; it will allow you to decide on colour selections for their homes, offices and establishments many times without their input.

Today, my portfolio as Channel Manager allows me to continue collaborating directly with a cadre of customers (architects, hoteliers, contractors and painters and some homeowners) but more on the corporate level. Together, with my team of two - Vance Hinds and Ronnie Mendoza - we are a dynamic force. I enjoy going on the road with them and interacting directly with the clients. This allows me to wear my safety helmet, shoes and vest; to meet directly with contractors, foremen and painters to teach them about the wide range of products we carry for their paint needs.

The joy I feel deep inside after a building is transformed from one colour to another is like an artist displaying a masterpiece on a canvas. Whether it is from ground to roof or refurbished property and finished with any of our wide range of decorative or industrial product range from Berger, I am immeasurably satisfied.

Paint as an outward extension of self

MARKETING IS A passion of mine, so when the opportunity arose some seven-plus years ago to take up the marketing assistant role at Berger Paints, I certainly did not hesitate. Over the years, my role and duties expanded as the Berger brands evolved. Starting as the marketing assistant to now leading the team as the brand and trade officer has been creatively rewarding. I have the privilege of being part of a team that influences how consumers view paint; not just to beautify a space, but rather use paint as an outward extension of self. From the creation of colour tools and the development and implementation of initiatives like the Royale Bedroom Makeover to Berger Shoppa Showdown, the Berger Barbados marketing department is always actively seeking ways to engage and excite consumers when they choose Berger

In addition to consumer engagement, we take our corporate social responsibility very seriously. Throughout the years, the company has actively made contributions to many charitable organisations and partnered with other corporate entities to assist with the beautification of several educational facilities. Two notable initiatives were Berger Proud To Be There for You, which rewarded both the community and consumers with paint to transform, uplift and change their spaces. The other was Conceive. Create. Cultivate, which focused on transforming classrooms through paint, to foster more stimulating and excitable spaces for learning.

Aside from these initiatives, customer service is also very important, especially when choosing paints, so Berger extends its services throughout hardware stores across the island. All Berger store attendants are equipped to provide colour advice, product recommendations, surface preparation and friendly banter, all while you are selecting and receiving your specially tinted paints. We are there to assist all customers on their colour journey, no matter the size or scope of residential and commercial projects using our extensive range of colours from our

TECHNOLOGY & PRODUCTION

MANAGER Debbie-Ann Barrow started her lifelong career journey at Berger Paints Trinidad Limited 38 years ago, straight out of high school. In 1985, Barrow initially joined the company as a quality technician and considered that period, a time of learning. “During this period I was exposed to and began to fully understand the importance of maintaining a high-quality standard and the accountability that comes with the approval process.”

This period of learning was the stepping stone that elevated her career, as three years later Barrow transitioned into research and development – and according to her, she found her happy place.

“I participated in many different aspects of the decorative coatings industry and that also broadened my knowledge base. I also found a new sense of joy in working on special projects which involved faux finishes and exhibitions, which featured new product launches.”

While the overall journey throughout Barrow’s career has been exceptional, one of the most rewarding aspects was being able to lead a team in a brand new innovation which resulted in reducing the volatile organic compounds (VOC) and toxicity levels of the 404 Brand. “This included the removal of lead and mercury which made the product line safer for domestic use. This project in itself shows what Berger is about – leading the charge in the paint industry across the Caribbean.”

Since Barrow literally grew up in the Berger Paints company, she was privileged to be exposed to several aspects of the working environment. “I became involved in industrial relations being shop steward and then secretary of the union. This form of professional exposure then inspired me to pursue a Diploma in Human Resource Management and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management.”

In 2008, the Trinidad leg of Barrow’s professional journey at Berger Paints Limited ended as she accepted an opportunity to venture out for personal and professional growth. “In January 2008, I began the second leg of my journey at Berger Paints Barbados Limited as technology officer with the responsibility of heading the lab. At that time, we were mainly focused on quality control with little work in research and development, but fortunately, my initial years

of experience were not wasted. I found pleasure in creating formulas for our then Classic Shade Card and enhancing our 404 Line to include 404 Flat

As the lab expanded, she transitioned into the role of assistant technology manager and had a greater scope of responsibility for research and development. “The staff increased from two to three, but I had to devote more time to the administrative aspects of the job.

This was not a hindrance though, as I still rolled up my sleeve and got involved with the work for this is my love.” With the increased level of responsibility, Barrow then started to increasingly feel more and more like she was in charge and not just another technician and in 2015 this feeling was justified as she was then promoted to technology manager.

In 2022, Barrow had the biggest professional transition of all. “I was moved into the most challenging period of my career as I was responsible for managing two departments – technology, where I have the experience and confidence and production, where I was a complete novice. Staff complement moved from four up to 26. So, where in technology I was responsible for the beginning and the end of the process. I am now involved in the full cycle of the process.”

This includes advising on the raw material purchases, sitting in on the production planning process, assisting in the execution of the production plan to meet volume requirements and sales demands. However, according to Barrow, those were just the big-ticket items, and with a staff of 26, the scope of responsibility has mushroomed tremendously. “I must give kudos to my newly acquired staff here. They have made the transition much less daunting with their expertise and willingness to support.”

As the Berger Paints Limited brand celebrates the 60 year milestone anniversary, Barrow says her reflection on the time served during this period evokes a sense of pride at being a part of the journey over the years.

“As I reflect on the company celebrating 60 years, I am proud of being part of the legacy. Berger has been my family for all of my working years. Sometimes it seems scary, but I feel joy that I have been planted in this company with its rich history. I have had the pleasure of being involved in the development of our premium line of products, namely Weatherproof, Royale, Grip & Seal and watching them all flourish in the market.

“I have had the privilege of being part of a team that is fearless, willing to take the risk of going to market with something new, executing the process with excellence and reaping the rewards of hard work. After 60 years, we are still considered the quality brand in the market. This is a testament to our love, dedication, and commitment to giving our customers the highest quality products and the best service. I would not trade my time in Berger; I have gained so much personally and professionally. This is home.” (DT)

Experience has been one of learning for Best

THE DAY-TO-DAY responsibility for the finance management of Berger Paints Barbados Limited lies in the capabilities of Chief Accountant Ryan Best, who joined the company on June 1, 2022. While Best has only been with the company for just over a year, he believes the transition has been seamless. “Being a new employee anywhere is always a challenge; however, my transition into this role has been comfortable as the staff have been very supportive and welcoming. I am grateful to them for embracing me, and I am proud to be a part of the Berger family.”

Best, a UWI graduate with over 25 years of experience in finance and a member of the Association of Chartered Accountants Association as well as the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados, along with a dedicated team of six – Chief Financial Officer Jarmarie Hypolite, Accounts Supervisor Mona Brathwaite, Accounting Assistant Charlene Farley, Procurement & ISO Coordinator Karan Joseph, Payroll Clerk Cheryl Hamshaw and Accounts Payable Clerk Ashley Depeiza, together they are responsible for organising, directing and controlling all the accounting activities to support the strategy and business decisions of Berger’s management. This team’s focus is geared toward accuracy, stewardship, policy and ethics.

Under the leadership of Best and CFO, Jarmarie Hypolite, this is achieved by the strict management of the company’s assets, oversight of both the internal and external audit functions and the preparation of timely and accurate financial statements and other management reports in accordance with international as well as Ansa McAL standards. As chief accountant, Best is usually called upon for financial advice and consultation by fellow managers to lend his experience towards enhancing and ultimately developing the finance team.

While Best is usually punching the numbers daily in his finance role, he admits that there are some uniquely thrilling pieces of knowledge he gained since joining the paint solutions provider.

“Prior to joining Berger Paints, I must confess I had very little knowledge of the paint industry, but it has been thrilling learning of the different textures and paint products available and the various uses; paints which reduce fungal growth like Berger Weatherproof, for example. Driving around Barbados and seeing the growth on houses, one would have never thought there are paints and pretreatments for this problem. I am deeply indebted to the sales team for the education shared and would recommend anyone to give the sales team a call. You too may walk away feeling like a paint expert.”

As the company celebrates the milestone anniversary celebration of 60 years, Best is proud to be working with such a proactive organisation and hopes that new ideas and innovation remain at the core of their business practices.

“What I would like to see as we celebrate and move into the future is not a change, but a continued effort at being the leader in innovation and always putting our customers first.”

Fraser up to the challenge

TWENTY-FOUR YEARS AGO, Merlene Fraser joined the shipping division team at Berger Paints Barbados Limited as a shipping clerk. This year as the company celebrates 60 years in business, she now holds the position of warehouse manager – a great achievement for her as it is the first time a woman has held the responsibility of leading the warehouse.

In this capacity, Fraser is responsible for inventory management and distribution for both local and export customers. For her, the most rewarding aspect is when the external and internal customers’ expectations have been successfully met.

While Fraser can be hailed as the warehouse authority of the Berger team, the job does not come without its challenges. “As a warehouse manager, the most challenging aspect is ensuring that the customer’s fulfilment is met in full and on time. This is why the most rewarding part relies on surpassing the customer’s expectation; this is our motivation when fulfilling orders, so the team always rallies together to ensure that Berger products reach the customer as per their requirements.”

The Berger legacy fills Fraser with immense pride as she continues to fulfil her role after just one year shy of a quarter century. The working environment, colleagues who are like family and just a love for the role, show why it is possible to celebrate this milestone with such optimism for the future. The spirit of advancement and innovation is another key aspect of the company’s success, and with this, employees are provided with a unique opportunity to learn new things. “Berger gives opportunities for the growth and development of its employees through ongoing training programmes. The Berger brand is also known throughout the Caribbean for its innovations, quality products for lasting beauty and protection that have been tested and proven throughout time. Being able to offer our customers paint recommendations, advice on colours, possible solutions for surface problems and having the ability to customise our paint to get the perfect colour

match with the warehouse team in service of the customer are some of the unique skills I have learnt over the years.”

In the true colour and vigour of Berger Paints Barbados Limited, Fraser extended hearty congratulations to the whole team. “I would like to personally say congratulations to the company for continuing to be a leader in the paint industry and continuing to remain competitive in the market through innovation, design, technology, and pricing, despite the challenges faced through the 60 years of existence. I would also like to say a heartfelt thanks to the Berger family for their continued and unwavering support of the business to ensure that we the employees continue to grow our well-known and well-loved brand.” (DT)

MERLENE FRASER, Warehouse Manager. (B LaT)

THE RESPONSIBILITY OF employee and industrial relations, health, safety, security and facilities management lies in the capable hands of Human Resources Lead Marieta Alleyne.

Starting her journey at Berger Paints Barbados Limited (BPBL) as a sales secretary in October 2001, Alleyne held titles such as executive assistant, human resources assistant, HR & administration supervisor and now the current role of human resources lead.

Alleyne highlights that the most rewarding part of being the human resources lead at Berger is the engagement with staff across all levels of the organisation. “At BPBL, we consider ourselves family and not just co-workers, and as such we have formed close bonds and relationships over time that remain, even if an individual leaves the company.”

As an HR professional, Alleyne states that one of the most challenging aspects of the role is that of change management. “Leading an organisation through a successful change is not easy. Therefore, as HR lead, I partner with the senior management team to drive and implement various business strategies.

“The major things to tackle are employee engagement across all levels of the organisation and the implementation of training strategies, which are essential to help our employees to understand the process and develop the required competencies to deal with change management.”

The role has also paved the way for Alleyne to expand her knowledge way beyond the field of human resources. “I have the opportunity to interact with contractors from various sectors and partner with the facilities team on projects, whether this may be the opening of a new location or upgrades to the plant.

“Thus, my role takes me beyond my desk and what you would normally expect from someone in the human resources field. Most recently, I was a part of the team that led the company through the successful recertification of our ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 Surveillance Audits. This was quite a feat for us, but at the end of the journey I felt a great sense of fulfilment and accomplishment.”

For Alleyne, there is a unique sense of pride and joy which comes with being a part of the 60-year journey at Berger. She said, “As a young girl, I grew up hearing all about Berger Paints and I can still remember the jingle which accompanied the corporate signature – For Lasting Beauty and Protection. This remains an indelible part of the Barbadian landscape even today. I am proud that I have had the opportunity to be a part of Berger’s history, to see the progress of the company that was first to develop low-odour paint, pursuing and achieving our ISO 14001:2015 certification, and now the launch of our new Innovatint Tinting System. I am proud to know that I am part of Berger’s longstanding legacy.”

The rich 60-year history of Berger is one for celebration, and as human resource lead to the people behind the paint, Alleyne extends a hearty congratulations to the entire team. “May you outshine your past achievements and continue to be the pioneer for paint solutions in Barbados.

“To our employees, our customers, and our family at BPBL, without you, these celebrations would not be possible. We attribute these achievements to your dedication, loyalty and commitment. Happy anniversary!!” (DT)

Message from Andrea Duguid, retired regional marketing manager of Berger Paints B’dos Limited

WHETHER IN SONG or read out loud, the slogan For Lasting Beauty and Protection has for many years been the benchmark slogan synonymous with the Berger brand and a statement that for decades described what consumers across the region have come to expect from the brand known for a wide range of consistent, premium-quality paint products, manufactured right here in Barbados since 1967. Over my tenure at Berger, this statement remained a sacred promise in the heart of every employee. The reality is, however, to ensure a more sustainable future for the next 60 years, consumers will demand much more than premium-quality products, in a world where competitors are just a click away and the customer is definitely “king”.

The area of delivering good customer service will need to go way beyond a simple smile and a discount promotion. The lifeblood of any company is building and maintaining a loyal customer base, and Berger Barbados is no exception. In the simplest of terms, “a happy customer is a loyal customer”. This reality was particularly borne out during the COVID-19 pandemic, where those businesses who positioned themselves to reach customers wherever they were, were the same ones who remained successful, despite the many restrictions and setbacks of the pandemic.

I am particularly pleased to have been a part of an organisation and group which believes that the customer really is king. Such conviction being demonstrated in the soon-to-be rolled out CRM Programme, which will demonstrate Berger’s commitment to being proactive in the delivery of exceptional customer service, and which will position the company to significantly improve service delivery in such areas as automating the delivery process, integrating the many touchpoints of customer service across departments, providing real-time help to customers that will be available around-the-clock, with automated responses to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) through a live chatbot permitting online visitors to track their orders, receive updates on deliveries, place orders, seek assistance, log complaints and in general leave feedback that is not left to chance, but will actually be captured, analysed and become the basis for continuous improvement.

As I start my retirement from the company, I am ecstatic that this new direction will better position Berger Paints Barbados to truly listen and understand what matters to customers on a daily basis.

Most of all, I’m pleased that this direction aims to make every step of the customer journey a more pleasurable one, giving greater relevance and meaning to the age-old slogan, Berger Paints! For Lasting Beauty and Protection! I wish all the members of staff a truly happy 60th anniversary and know that with the focus and direction the company is going in, that they are creating a meaningful legacy for the next 60 years.

Colours light up the world

COLOURS AFFECT US more than we realise. Understanding their ability to add character and create moods is vital when deciding which combinations to use on interior and exterior surfaces. Whether your preference is vibrant, cool, neutral, conservative, modern or glamorous, striking effects can be achieved using the right combination. Berger Colour World Tinting System offers endless possibilities in combinations to create the desired effect in every room and space. Here are some examples of the effects of colour:

PINK – This soft side of red, traditionally considered subtle and subdued, can be lively, hot or trendy, and is most accepted as unconditional love – nurturing, comforting and always there. Vibrant pinks are no longer considered little girls’ colours and are nowadays used as accent walls to add an appealing element of sophistication.

BLUE – Associated with tranquility, openness and optimism; the colour of the sky, the ocean, and mountains, blue complements a wide range of colours, creating a feeling of nurturing and ease. Light to medium blues create a calm, relaxed feeling, whereas darker blues can evoke dignified and regal feelings in a space. Blue creates a sense of calm and relaxation to both interior and exterior spaces.

VIOLET – The colour of royalty, violet also has a mystical side. Use any shade of violet to infuse a sense of luxury in the air. Violet also has a meditative quality that makes it a colour of clarity and foresight. Use lighter shades to create a soothing, calming feel to a room. Use darker shades to accent the décor of interior and exterior surfaces.

RED – This most powerful colour, commonly associated with flowers and fruits can be rich and intense, romantic and passionate or hot, flamboyant and can definitely make a statement. Chosen with any colour, red adds energy and excitement and never goes unnoticed. Tones of red are often used on focus walls in many dining rooms to encourage social interaction and appetite.

GREEN – Often associated with nature, new growth and trees, yellow-greens make a striking combination with any colour, creating a sense of cheer and a carefree atmosphere. Use deeper greens sparingly as accent colours on both interior and exterior surfaces.

BROWN – Rich, sophisticated, warm and comforting, brown is frequently associated with earth, Mother Nature and warmth. Brown remains unaffected by passing fads and styles used in combination with any colour.

YELLOW – This colour is strongly linked to sunshine and is considered to be the happiest colour in the spectrum. It is often associated with warmth, action and joy, and is strongly linked to flowers. Yellow marks an area as a “day space”, when combined with any other colours. Lighter shades are more soothing, whereas brighter tones are playful and more suitable for graphic decors. While not necessarily conveying energy or intellect on an exterior surface, yellow can add a sense of cleanliness, freshness and happiness to an interior space.

GREY – represents neutrality and balance. The balance colour of compromise and control, this neutral, conservative and unemotional colour is practically solid as a rock, making it stable, reliable and calm. Grey avoids attention but offers mature insight advice to anyone who asks.

WHITE – Generally considered pure, clean, bright and new, too much white on an exterior can be boring. When used as the primary colour include other colours to add personality and drama.

ORANGE – Optimism and energy, it’s an attention-grabbing warm colour that really pops when combined with cool greens or blues, this bright and vibrant colour is used to convey positive and uplifting and stimulating messages.

Giving back is part of our nature

HAVING A BUSINESS MODEL which accounts for enhancing the environment, society and governance (ESG), goes a long way into the overall success and the legacy of the organisation. This continues to be core to the operations at Berger

The celebration of 60 years strong in operation for Berger Paints Barbados Limited highlights that a large portion of brand awareness, positive company image and high customer engagement comes from giving back.

It should be well known across the business community that the days of operating solely for profit are gone; and while the financial aspect is still critical, many companies are now aware of the various benefits which come from corporate social responsibility.

From murals donated to The Lodge School to paint donations to tennis courts and other community centres across the island, Berger Paints has been stamping shades of colour while using the most environmentally friendly products to beautify the island.

The benefits of corporate social responsibility speaks volumes to overall business practices and the 60 year anniversary of Berger Paints speaks volumes to how important it is and why companies should make an increased effort to adopt it into their business practices. (DT)

Happy clients say . . .

GROWING UP IN ANTIGUA, the name Berger was synonymous with paint, now as a practioner Berger Paints Ltd paint is my first choice for finishes whether wood or concrete. I used the exterior joint compound on a renovation project four years ago and the performance to date is as excellent as the other product offerings such as Weatherproof and Luxatex. I am confident that the right decision was made with the recommendations received. Keep up the good work Berger. Happy 60th!!!

– WESLEY JAMES, Architect (Antigua)

Being an architect for over 30 years, the only paint on my homes is Berger, for it’s been the most durable in the Caribbean environment.

– WYCLIFFE H. MORTON, Architect

Congrats to Berger – an innovative company with great products and personalised service.

– GORDON ASHBY

The Roebuck Street Redevelopment Trust is very pleased to be associated with the work undertaken on its behalf as part of our rejuvenation programme. The energy and advice tendered by Karen Grant of Berger B’dos Paints Limited continue to add significant value to our ongoing efforts to give renewed life and spirit to Roebuck Street.
