20 1 7 NA A EDUCATION CONFERENCE & EXPOSITION

THE NAA EXPOSITION CONFERENCE:

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE SHOES Mary Gwyn, CPM Chief Innovator Apartment Dynamics

During the first NAA Conference I ever attended, I visited every single exhibitor’s booth. I was determined! It was amazing to see what products and services there were, and how many product options were out there! I was wearing heels—which was not so amazing—given the long halls filled with supplier partners! The NAA Education Conference & Exposition continues to grow exponentially. In the size of the trade show, the number and valuable education sessions and networking opportunities and the biggest and best industry party of the year—every year. If you want to keep wearing your cool shoes and make the most of the conference, my advice is to use the myNAA Planner, or better yet, get the new NAA app (www.haahq. org/app)! I used to wait to fire it up until arriving at the conference, but I’ve learned it saves on blisters, bunions and pretty footwear if you spend some time loading it and looking at it before arrival. • Open it up and review all of the education sessions in advance. Choose which ones you think will be your first choices to attend. If you’re traveling with others, share your schedule so you can either split up and learn more—or meet up at the same sessions.

• The speakers’ session slides are included! Not only can they help you decide which sessions to attend, they can help you remember the content better and not worry about notes or taking your own not-so-great photos of the projected slides. The cool Trade Show tool is incredible. I can look in advance at the list of suppliers and services. The interactive map lets me prioritize which vendors are MUST SEE. By clicking on the exhibitors, they are added to my personal trade show map. WOW! I have to admit that the first

year I didn’t read the directions for the app and had clicked on a number of vendors, but the map kept me from hurting my feet by showing me which vendors I’d selected were close by. For someone who’s directionally impaired and has walked up and down trade show floor aisles before, this is a toe-saver! I know you’ll want to wait until you arrive in Atlanta to test it out. But resist the temptation! Spend an hour and dig in to the education options and trade show booths ahead of time. That way you’ll map out your plan for the least footsteps possible and still feel great wearing those really cool shoes to the best party of the year!
