JONATHAN Last month, I came back in Singapore for some days and took time to visit designers and creatives, again... Believe it or not, I met Jonathan in october, but do no figure out it was him... I understand he was the guy who share the office with Felix Ng and team when the cab took me back to Slint/Anonymous studio I visit back in october... I remember to have print one of Jonathan work back in my design school years, a project he done about Hiroshima... I thought it was the work of a master designer, but no, it was just one of his school project that shown his talent... His illustrative web site show all his creativity... minimalist and powerfull... When I came for the first time in Singapore last october, I discover the amazing BooksActually, the shop of Kenny Leck. Mixing all his passions in the same place, it is like a disneyland store for creative like me... books, magazine, vintage items... After my visit, Kenny contacted me as he wants to have the Helvetica wood letters in his shop, we set up a real meeting this time... In fact we spend some hours together as we have so much to share... Booksactually is only the visible part of the iceberg, Kenny is also behind Math Paper Press, a small press publisher of poetry, novels, and essays and Birds & Co., the stationery brand. Ad to that the thousand of vintage and found items collected over the years, and you can imagine how passionate is this man !

I guess it was in 2002, I lived in middle of France, Clermont-Ferrand... I need to do a stamp and someone tell me this guy was the best. His shop looks like in Harry Potter’s Diagon Alley. At this time, letterpress hasn’t made its coming out yet, so, seeing old metal fonts was something for me... This guys keep all the stamps he had composed for clients, and told me the shop was in his familly for generations... I ask him if I can shoot the shop, and as I was really passionate, he shows me this old catalog of stamps, and he offers it to me, saying it would be in good hands ! And it is ! At the begining of the year, I get contacted by Pascal and Claude, who live between France and Bali. Pascal own a restaurant and do music for movies; Claude was photographer and made documentaries.

HOME They invite me and my family in their house, an amazing «home» in the south of Bali, in Jimbaran. We spend very quiet and relaxing days there, sharing about life and creativity, eating some amazing fish on the beach, visiting the local market on the morning... Life should be like this everyday ! While we where there, Frédérique, my wife, shoot their beautiful house. As crazy as it can seems, they are selling the house, as life is bringing them somewhere else... I hope they will found the right place, because for us this one is just perfect ! So much space and nice objects everywhere...

The life of the house turns the living room, sitting on an antique Joglo. Mixing colors of walls and floors, the numerous objects brought back from their travels, fabrics, give to this place an amazing atmosphere from what you can not get tired.

You must have seen Bravo projects on a blog or an other, they do such inspiring typographic work. Even if they are not specialized in restaurant identities, they have done several for varied places around Singapore... This was one of our topic of conversation, how the identity of a restaurant (and its variation over all tools) is essential today. What is interesting in Singapore, as it is a small country / small town, is that many restaurants now have the graphics in the center of their project, as well as the food that is served or music they play; it is almost impossible for a new place, if it wants to exist, to not use an agency to have a great graphics. It improves the visibility of graphic design and provides work to design agencies... the circle is complete !
