Ochugen is one of the two Japanese gift
giving seasons. Typically, gifts are given to those who have helped the gift giver such as bosses, mentors and clients.

When to send out Ochugen gifts varies de-
pending on which regions of Japan you live in. In most of the cases, gifts are sent out around June 20th to August 15th.

What if we forgot to send out the gifts during Ochugen season? お中元の時期を過ぎてしまったら？ Although this rule does not apply to all regions of Japan, in most of the areas, the gifts should be sent out as a “残暑御見舞 (Zansho Omimai)” gift by the end of August.
関東：先方に贈り物が届くのが7月15日を過ぎてしまう場合は8月7日頃の立秋までは 「暑中御見舞」 または 「暑中御 伺」 、 それ以降は 「残暑御見舞」 として8月末頃までに贈るようにしましょう。
関西：先方に届くのが8月15日以降になってしまう場合には 「残暑御見舞」 として8月末頃までに贈るようにしましょう。

What to do when you received Ochugen gifts. お中元を頂いたら… Even if you received Ochugen gifts from someone, there is no need to give one back. However, sending “thank you card” is highly recommended.
お中元を頂いたからと言って必ずお返しをしないといけないことはありませんが、 お礼状は出すようにしましょう。

Can we send gifts in the case of Mochu (first year after death of family member)? 喪中の場合はお中元を贈ってもいいのでしょうか？ Yes. Ochugen does not interfere with Mochu. Both parties can send and receive Ochugen gifts during this period.
喪中の人がお中元を贈っても、 喪中の人に贈っても差し支えありません。
Is there anything we should not send as Ochugen gifts? お中元に贈ってはいけないギフトはあるのでしょうか？ Try to avoid items that people have personal tastes such as clothes and foods that are perishable during summer.
人によって好みの異なる嗜好品や衣類、 また夏に保存が効かないものなどは避けるようにしましょう。

～アジャストメント後の変化について～ 先月号で施述 （アジャストメント） を終えました。 アジャストメントの直後は首が不安定な状 態になるので、 別室にあるベッドで30分程横になりゆっくりとしました。 私はしっかり熟睡し ていました。 すこし頭がボーッとした感覚があったので、 帰宅してゆっくりとしました。 アジャストメントの前は右腕全体に慢性的な痺れがあったのが、 次の日には痺れる感覚が 半減。 そして3日後に1回目のチェックアップの日。 重心測定や姿勢分析、 首の温度チェック、 などのチェックをしてもらい、施術後のズレはなし！第一頸椎は正常な位置にあるので私も 先生も一安心。 この時は第二頸椎が少しずれていましたが、各頸椎が一時的にずれる事は 各頸椎がすべて正常な位置に動くまでの過程で、 当然の動きなので安心してくださいと 「良 かったですね」 と笑顔の先生。 また施述前右足が6ミリ程短かったが、 左右同じ長さに。 自分 ではあまり変化が実感できなかったのですが、 体はしっかりと変化しているようです。 次号は 引き続き体の変化をお伝えしていきいます。

Mr. Ishii would like to bring you the voices of the those were badly affected by the recent disaster in the country of Nepal, where a devastating earthquake took place in April. 石井氏にとって所縁の深いネパールで4月に起こった大地震。被災した人々の生の声をお届けします。

n April 25, the magnitude 7.8M. earthquake occurred in Nepal which victimized and affected more than 30,000 people in wide devastated areas. Another big quake hit the area on May 14 again which has enlarged the damages that was already there. Through many projects sponsored by NPO ADRA Japan during last decade, I was involved in many ways in Nepal and I was concerned about the condition of the people whom we have been supporting. After several days, my phone calls got through to the leprosy colony clinic, the hospitals, the schools and the orphanage where all of my acquaintance are located and confirmed that their lives are safe. Then I was able to communicate with one of my best colleagues there who is one of my close friends, Mr. Ram Chandra and confirmed that his family are all safe, though his brick house was completely destroyed by the latter earthquake in May. His family is now sleeping in a small tent on the street and his children are very afraid of after quakes which are still occurring daily. Becoming rainy season now, they have rainy days every 2 or 3 days which makes it horrible situation for the people in sleeping in the tents on the street. When we were able to talk on the phone, I told Ram how worried I was, but I was so happy that his family was all safe. Then he said ”Thank you for your concern for us and calling us from America, Hearing your voice is very encouraging and now my family will work very hard to get through this hardship.” We exchanged the tearful conversation yet with joy on the phone between Nepal and US. Even though I couldn’t go there right now to help them, but I was grateful to give some encouragement to them through even just the phone call. Many families have been forced to live out on the streets, yet they have not had much support from the local government. Delivering goods from other countries takes a long time. And even bigger concern is the sanitation and hygiene becoming worse. For all the suffering victims, I want to continue helping out whatever we can from California.

ちをかけるように再度大きな地震が起こり、 被害が拡大してしまいました。 私は今までにNPO法人ADRA Japanの活動を通してネパールにて多くの支 援活動を行ってまいりましたので、 地震発生以来、 被災地の人々の安否が非常 に心配でなりませんでした。 支援してきたハンセン病患者コロニーの住民、 クリ ニック、 病院、 学校、 孤児院などと連絡が途絶えた状態でしたが、 日が経つごと に次々と連絡が入り、 友人や関係者の安否の確認が取れました。 特に絆の深 い友人、 ラム・チャンドラさん家族は5月の地震で家が全倒壊してしまいました が、 家族全員助かりました。 ただ未だに、 二人の幼い娘さんたちは余震が来る たびに恐れているそうです。 レンガを積み上げて作られた家は瓦礫の山と化し てしまったのでテントで寝泊まりしているとのことでした。 雨季に入って2～3日 ごとに雨が降るので、 生活はさぞ大変なことと察することができます。 電話で話 しができて胸がいっぱいになり 「無事でよかった。 命が助かってよかった」 と私 が伝えると、 ラムさんは 「自分たちのことを心配してわざわざ電話をかけてきて くれてありがとうございます。 家が全部壊れてとても落胆していたけど、 アメリカ の友人の声が聞けて大きな励ましになりました。 元気を出してがんばっていけ そうです」 と語り、 お互い泣きながら喜び合いました。 アメリカから直ちに助け に行くことはできませんが、 電話で時々話し、 励ますことで彼は心に活力を得て くれて家族や地域の人々を助けています。 途上での生活を余儀なくされている多くの家族には、 まだ政府の支援が届い てないと聞きます。 外国からの支援物資も隅々まで行き渡るまでには時間がか かります。 保健衛生状況も悪くなるのが心配です。 被災された人々のために、 カ リフォルニアからできる支援を続けていきたいと思います。 参照: ADRA Japan 緊急支援ブログ http://blog.canpan.info/adrajapan/category_26/1?mm86

University of Hawaii manages this place and you can enjoy many tropical rainforest plants and flowers here. In addition, this botanical garden has a small trekking course and it’s not crowded compared to MANOA FALLS, so you can always relax and spend a good time.

(for 4 ser vings) 10 oz ground pork 3 dried shiitake 3 oz onion 2 tbsp potato starch 1 tbsp juice from grated ginger 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 tbsp KIKKOMAN SOY SAUCE
1/2 tbsp sugar 2 tbsp sake 1 tbsp KIKKOMAN SESAME OIL KIKKOMAN WASABI SAUCE and pepper to taste 24 shao mai skins

<1> Soak dried shiitake in water, then mince them. Chop onions and dust them with potato starch. <2> Combine ground pork, ginger juice, KIKKOMAN SOY SAUCE, sugar, sake, KIKKOMAN SESAME OIL and pepper and mix them well until sticky. Wrap the mixture with shao mai skins. <3> In a bamboo steamer, lay some leafy vegetables and place shao mai on them leaving some space in between. Steam for 12 minutes. <4> Dazzle with KIKKOMAN WASABI SAUCE to finish. Enjoy with black vinegar & soy sauce.
