acial cleaning, depending on how it is done, offers differing results. Two-step cleansing is necessary. Cream is for those with dry skin, while those with other skin types should use oil to completely remove make up. Then, using a facial cleanser, remove the excess dirt from the skin. The emphasis is on “removing”. Intense scrubbing alone is meaningless. The trick is in gently massaging the face with a facial towel and facial cleanser, with the facial cleanser formed into a whipped cream-like consistency. Afterwards, splashing your face repeatedly with warm water will help to tighten pores. Just by doing this, you will see a dramatic change in your skin. As for myself, my skin was no longer dry, and my breakouts improved substantially as well. This facial cleansing routine yields optimal results through time and dedication. So, when choosing facial cleansers, be sure to select one that fits your budget and lifestyle.

Haiti, a small island nation in the Caribbean Sea. Amidst the extreme poverty and chaos of daily life, children labor to survive, day by day.

カリブ海に浮かぶ小国、ハイチ。困窮を極め、混沌とする市民生活の中、子どもたちは労働を課せられながらも、たくましく生きています。

t was nearly 3 years ago, on January 12, 2010, that the M7.0 earthquake struck the island of Haiti. Around 3,000,000 people, nearly a third of the entire population, was affected, and reportedly the death toll surpassed 300,000. Disaster relief efforts were stymied by poor infrastructure and resources, and mayhem ensued in the capital city. In various areas the citizens began to riot, and looting and rapes ensued. Living in the most impoverished nation in Central and South America, the disadvantaged children of Haiti live day to day surrounded by danger. Due to societal unrest, children have few educational opportunities and many of them, barefoot and clothed in rags, wander the streets, looking for any sort of labor in order to survive. Without access to basic education, these children grow up without even the most fundamental literacy and arithmetic skills. Last year, I went on-site as part of an effort to support longdelayed school building efforts. As I slowly drove around to find possible site locations, children carrying baskets stacked high with mangoes approached from both sides of the street. These salesboys and salesgirls, far outnumbering cars in number, think only of selling their fruits. Though I was skeptical of how much I would help even if I bought fruit from one of these children, nevertheless I stopped the car to buy a basket of ripe mangoes. When the “saleschildren” nearby spied my car they came swarming like bees, so in the end I resigned myself to buying 3 baskets. However, even if I had filled the car to the brim with mangoes, I still wouldn’t have been able to help everyone. What is the future of these children, who must prioritize surviving day to day above going to school, and have no other choice but to labor like this in order to live? When will all children in this country be able to learn and study at school? Even as I ate ripened mangoes, looking out upon the white beaches and azure waters of the Caribbean Sea, my heart remained clouded.

7.0の地震が島を襲ったのは３年前の1月12日。総人口の約3分の1である300万人が被災し、死者数は30万人を越えたと報告されました。元々インフラの整備が遅れていたため救援活動は困難を極め、首都圏では混乱が起こりました。また一部地域では住民が暴徒となり、略奪やレイプが続発しました。中南米で最も貧困な国という環境で、弱者である子どもたちは、多くの危険に囲まれながらも一生懸命生きようとしています。社会システムが整っていない故に学校教育を受ける機会がない子どもたちは、ぼろぼろの服を身につけ裸足で町中を歩き回り、何かの労働に従事しなければなりません。基礎教育を受ける機会がない場合、文字の読み書きや数の数え方の基本を習うことなく成長してしまうのです。昨年、私は遅々として進まない学校建設の支援をするために現地を訪れました。候補地を探してのろのろと車を走らせていると、山のようにマンゴーが入った籠を持ち道の両側に立っていた子どもたちが近づいてきました。車の数より多い「売り子」たちは、自分の持っている果物を売ろうと必死です。私が一人の子どもから果物を買っても、いったいそれがどれほどの助けになるのだろうかと考えたのですが、私は車を止めてもらい熟したマンゴーを1籠買い求めました。近くにいた「売り子」たちが私たちの車をめがけて蜂の巣をつっついたように群がったので、私はしかたなく3籠買いました。ただ、みんなを助けるには、マンゴーを車に満載しても到底追いつかないような状況でした。学校に通うことよりも今日の命を生きることが先決であり、生きるための労働を余儀なくさせられている子どもたちは、将来どのような生活をしているのだろうか。この国のすべての子どもたちが学校で学べるようになる日はいつ来るのだろうか。紺碧のカリブ海と白い浜を眺めながら熟れたマンゴーを食べても、私の心は曇り空でした。
