今月号から一年間、世界各地で教育支援を行ってきた石井光男先生に 各国の子どもたちの様子と、彼らを取り巻く状況についてお話いただきます。
Innocent Children -- Bhutan

efore I started working at Saniku Tozai Gakuen, I had helped local education systems in more than 20 countries as a representative of an NGO, “ADRA Japan”. Through my experiences, I would like to tell you what needs to be done for each country’s educational system while explaining every country’s current situation. In my opinion,“education”is to teach how to restore human dignity and the value of life to make a peaceful society. In that sense, “the happiest country on earth”, Kingdom of Bhutan has succeeded in this type of education. This June, I went to Bhutan with my friends who had helped its educational system until last year. In Bhutan, we introduced Japanese culture to children. Their school was very tidy because they cleaned up on their own. They were so shy because they were not used to foreign visitors. However, they show respect for elder people such as their teachers. I couldn’t help but feel their pride for their own country and nationality when I saw them in traditional costume. They were polite and seemed amazingly innocent to me. From my understanding, this owes a lot to not only “school education” but also Tibetan Buddhism–based education in their whole society. Although they are not rich, people don’t ask for too much. They are just thankful for everyday life, being useful in the society and living to the fullest. I could see this in everyone in Bhutan. In this county, children are raised healthy and protected in the peaceful living environment. On the other hand, Nepal, Bhutan’s neighboring country, has a totally different story. Next time, I will tell you about it.

は三 育 東 西 学 園 着 任までの1 0 年 間 、N G O ” A D R A Japan”代表として世界20か国以上に赴き、 現地で教育支 援を行ってきました。 その体験を通して考えた”教育の現場で何を 行うのか？”という問いについて、各国の現状を交えながらお話し ていきたいと思います。 私自身、人が生きていくために必要な”教育”とは、平和な社会 を作るために、人間の尊厳の回復や命の大切さなどを教えること だと考えています。 その意味での”教育”が浸透しているなと感じた 国が、 『世界一幸福な国』 と評されるブータン王国です。 今年の6月、昨年までともに教育支援を行ってきた友 人たちともに現地の学校を訪問して、日 本文化を紹介しながら子どもたちと交流 しました。 自分たちの手できちんと掃除を しているので、学校はとても清潔でした。 外国人に慣れていないのか、 こちらから 話しかけると照れてしまうシャイな子ば かり。 でも目が合えば会釈し、先生を始め とする年上の人を敬うしぐさをする。民族 衣装を着てしゃきっとしている姿には、 自 国や民族に誇りを持っているように感じ ました。みんな行儀がよく、驚くほど純粋 に育っている様子が伺えました。 これには学校の”教育”だけでなく、 チベット仏教の教え に根ざした社会全体の”教育”が大きく影響していると理解 しました。物質的に豊かな国とは言えないものの、人々は 必要以上の物を求めず、今生きていること、活かされている ことに感謝の念を持ち、命を精一杯生きているーこのよう な姿勢が、子どもにも大人にも見受けられました。 精神面、生活環境の両方で平和な社会が守られ、子ども たちが健やかに育っているブータン王国。 ところが隣国の ネパールは状況がガラリと変わります。次回は、 そのネパー ルについて詳しくお話します。

ブレーキのディスクローターの歪みが原因かも The disk rotor is used when you step on the brake. Since it is made of iron, it tends to be deformed by rapid frictional heat when you brake. This type of deformation is not easy to see with the eyes or even during a check-up. We recommend you bring your car to the nearest mechanic’s shop and have them examine your car professionally. ディスクローターはブレーキをかける際に使われます。 鉄で できていて、 ブレーキを踏んだときの急激な摩擦熱により歪み やすいんです。 これは見た目でもわからず点検でも発見されに くいので、 近くの工場などで専門的に調べてもらってください。
>> If you leave this problem unsolved, the brake pad might wear out more quickly and lead to “vapor lock” symptoms. It needs to be reground with special equipment.
Grinding corrects the deformity. (See the right.) If the problem persists, the disc rotor should be replaced.
