GET VACCINATED, GET WINTER STRONG

Flu and COVID-19 are unpleasant for most people but for young children and pregnant women they can be very dangerous and even life-threatening. Under-5s have one of the highest hospitalisation rates for flu – last year more than 6,000 children were admitted with severe complications and many more needed emergency care. The flu vaccine reduces a child’s chance of needing hospital care by around two-thirds. The vaccine is offered to most children, including 2-3-year-olds and school-aged children from reception to year 11, as well as those with underlying health conditions. It is usually given as a quick and painless spray up the nose and should be administered as early as possible for their protection and to help stop the virus spreading to others. Catching flu or COVID-19 whilst pregnant can lead to complications for you and your baby and can cause premature birth or low birth weight. The flu and COVID vaccines help to protect you and your baby from serious illness and provides your baby with protection for the first few months of life. Getting double-vaccinated ahead of winter is one of the most important things you can do to keep yourself and your baby safe and get ‘winter strong’. It’s safe to have both vaccines during any stage of pregnancy, from the first few weeks up to your expected due date.

A FRIENDLY, INDEPENDENT NURSERY WITH A PASSION FOR OUTDOOR LEARNING AND PLAY

All eligible adults can book their vaccinations by visiting www.nhs.uk/seasonalvaccinations or via the NHS App. Those who can’t get online can call 119 for free or contact your GP practice or local pharmacy. If pregnant, you may be offered a flu vaccination by your local maternity service. Young children should be seen by their GP – those aged 6 months+ in a clinical risk group are also eligible for the COVID vaccination.

Jubilee Day Nursery and Jubilee Gems in Padworth are synonymous across the region for their high-quality childcare and exceptional outdoor learning opportunities. With an abundance of stunning private grounds (around 63 acres in fact!), woodland and working farm for the children it is an experience which is truly unique. Jubilee’s nurseries are all about ‘learning by doing’ through real experiences. All children are given the time and space to explore, discover and use their imagination, both indoors and outdoors, in a language-rich environment with caring and highly skilled practitioners. If you are looking for a nursery or pre-school, Jubilee offers a very special experience for babies and children from three months old to five years of age. Located in Padworth, they are just a few minutes’ drive from Mortimer, Burghfield, Tadley and other surrounding villages. Jubilee Day Nursery offers sessional care for 51 weeks of the year and Jubilee Gems offers a variety of flexible sessions across West Berkshire term time. W: www.jubileedaynursery.co.uk

SUPPORTING MENTAL HEALTH AT CROSFIELDS

Crosfields has welcomed Mrs Yadava, it’s first Mental Health Practitioner (MHP), to support pupils with their wellbeing and to further develop wellbeing services at the school. School-based mental health support can have a significant positive impact on pupils and supporting this is vital in helping each individual to thrive. Mrs Yadava works primarily with pupils on a one-to-one basis in a designated space within the medical centre, helping them to understand their emotions and feelings. She helps pupils develop coping skills that will enable them to deal with any situations in a healthy way. Teachers and parents are also supported and guided through this to ensure a 360 degrees approach. Read the full article on www.crosfields.com/news/supportingmentalhealth
