decision making

11 min – politics is not about getting people together to identify/debate problems.. it’s about getting people to make decisions.. most of software so far .. doesn’t capture very well what decisions are made.. and how carried forward into future.. - Smári

In psychology, decision-making is regarded as the cognitive process resulting in the selection of a belief or a course of action among several alternative possibilities. Every decisionmaking process produces a final choice that may or may not prompt action. Decision-making is the process of identifying and choosing alternatives based on the values and preferences of the decision-maker.

Every decisionmaking process produces a final choice that may or may not prompt action. Decision-making is the process of identifying and choosing alternatives

based on the values and preferences of the decision-maker.

Decision-making can be regarded as a problem-solving activity terminated by a solution deemed to be satisfactory. It is therefore a process which can be more or less rational or irrational and can be based on explicit knowledge or tacit knowledge.

Human performance with regard to decisions has been the subject of active research from several perspectives: Psychological: examining individual decisions in the context of a set of needs, preferences and values the individual has or seeks. Cognitive: the decision-making process regarded as a continuous process integrated in the interaction with the environment. Normative: the analysis of individual decisions concerned with the logic of decision-making, or communicative rationality, and the invariant choice it leads to.

A major part of decision-making involves the analysis of a finite set of alternatives described in terms of evaluative criteria.

and w/a finite group of people.. this is the difference today… no? perhaps why we have not yet… gotten to a place of tweaking/changing agency (Smári) – we’re stuck clinging to consensus and finite ness redefineschool.com/smari-mccarthy/

we can’t seem to

enough.. to let people.. all of us.. decide.. and decide on what we’re going to decide on… and decide if we’re going to change our mind tomorrow.. perhaps our democratic ness is our worst perpetuation (of not-us ness) redefineschool.com/perpetuate/ because it claims/appears to be letting go. letting us decide. yet.. deciding what we should be deciding about.. and who we should be deciding/acting with.. redefineschool.com/spinach-or-rock/

how does democracy decide to not do something,… ie: anonymous deciding not to kill someone.. if any one person can pull trigger.. how do they all collectively decide not to do this… you need a function/institution that says.. hey guys.. remember we weren’t going to do this.. institution is just something that reminds people… what if we get rid of all process and focus on long term memory.. - Eleanor indeed.. how about.. self-talk as data (as our trail/backpack of long term memory) – where each alive person reminds themself daily.. and.. no one bent toward ie: killing.. because everyone has something else to do redefineschool.com/self-talk-as-data/ redefineschool.com/gershenfeld-something-else-law/ redefineschool.com/smari-mccarthy/

15 min – we have agency… we get to actually go out there and do things/change things.. we don’t have to wait for permission from existing structures in order to act.. 21 min – on watching the wire – because it’s basically about agency.. what you can do… on a daily basis.. how to figure out what you can

do and do it.. you all do this.. but somehow

we haven’t captured any method for tweaking/expanding agency yet.. perhaps..
