Senior Spotlight on Editor-in-Chief, Rylee Cavins CW: Tell me about your future plans. Rylee: I plan to go to Ohio University and major in Journalism and Film Studies, so that I can eventually write about film! After my freshman year, I would like to transfer to the University of Southern California. CW: What did you like most about your senior year? Rylee: The variety of classes! I loved being able to choose classes I was interested in, such as Frame by Frame, Journalism, Ancient and Medieval History. CW: What do you like to do outside of school? incredibly bubbly, just an overall amazing person! CW: What advice do you have for people who are thinking about joining The Vibe? Rylee: Pick topics that interest you, because it will feel less like work and you will enjoy writing and learning about them. CW: What are you going to miss most about high school? Rylee: I’ll miss my friends, because I know that I will not meet another group of people that are anything like them. The friendships I make in the future will not feel the same as the ones I’ve made in high school. CW: What would you consider your greatest achievement? Rylee: I watch movies, play video games, read and spend time online. My favorite movie is a tough choice. I am super biased towards the Marvel movies, but outside of those I’d have to say The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. My favorite video game changes a lot, but right now I enjoy ARK: Survival Evolved, but I always go back to Skyrim. CW: Who were your role models growing up? Rylee: Nellie Corriveau. She started Nellie’s Champions for Kids when she was 16 years old. She is incredibly successful,

Rylee: The scholarships I have earned, because I know that some very accomplished and well-deserving people applied for the same ones. I feel honored to have been chosen to receive them.

Let’s face it, this school year was full of trends that came and went. There was way too many to put into one article though. I got some of the most popular trends that occurred during the school year. Fashion and Makeup Let’s start with the fashion and makeup trends first. Ripped jeans have become super popular in the school year. I see everyone wearing them. It’s one thing to accidentally rip your jeans but they’re making pre-ripped jeans now. Furry sandals have also become very popular this year. Winter and fur go together, like sandals and warm weather. This year, though, designers at all price points have been creating a hybrid of the two. Sandals you can technically wear all year long. Confused yet? Another thing that gets worn a lot are exposed tights. Usually you would wear these under your ripped jeans because everyone knows you need that much more protection from the cold. There weren’t very many makeup trends but the most obnoxious one was the squiggly makeup that everyone was doing.

super big but shortly after died was fidget spinners. It was kinda fun and interesting at first but then it got really annoying after everyone had one. The thing that made me hate them was the subtle sound of metal scraping up against metal. Next thing that became popular is, I hate to say it, dabbing. It got excessive and repetitive for a while and it died as quick as it started, even though some people do it to this day. Vine became super popular this year and I’m glad it did. I used to love Vine and I’m glad it’s gotten its time in the spotlight. If you don’t know what Vine is, it’s basically 6 second clips of funny phrases that people have been saying all the time now. The last thing that has become really popular was slime videos and I have to say, they’re pretty satisfying to watch but weird to play with. I never really got into the whole slime thing but other people seem to enjoy it and that’s ok. There are going to be so many other trends that pop up that I didn’t get into this article. It was really fun looking back into the past to see everything that popped up and became popular. I hope there are many more trends in the future but let’s leave most of these trends here in 2018. Bailey Prestwood

Social Media and Games The most popular social media trend that I have found to this day is Fortnite and PUBG. I have to admit, Fortnite is really fun and PUBG is really buggy but funny to watch. The next thing that got

There are 2190 hours in summer break, so there's some time to spare, but maybe not enough money to spare. There are a lot of ways to inexpensively have fun and stay productive during those three months of summer break. Parks- Parks are a great way to get out and enjoy the sun, and its free which is definitely a plus. There are a lot of parks in the Marysville community. Eljer, Schwartzkopf, and McCarthy are some of the main and most known parks in the community. Going to parks is a great and healthy way to spend time with friends and family. Most parks allow dogs but if you want to go to a park dedicated to dogs Bark Park is a great place for you. Bark Park has two different sections, one for bigger and one for smaller dogs, so there is a less chance of dog fights. Parks are a great way to stay healthy while still having a lot of fun. You can stay healthy at parks by walking on trails or even going on the swings. Education- Though summer is a time to chill out, it is still good to be productive so your brain isn't fried when you get back to school. Reading is a very easy way to stay productive during summer break and it will only not even an hour out of your day. Learning to play an instrument is a very good skill to have and you can play anytime you're bored and have nothing to do. Learning a new language can be very educational and can even get you a head start if you're taking a language class next year. Learning to cook isn't only an extremely good skill to have, cooking can also be very fun and you can do it with your whole family Shows- you can relax sometimes during your summer break, so why not binge netflix shows. It isn't good to watch netflix the entire break but watching it sometimes won't do any harm. Three good netflix shows are: The Office (comedy), Breaking Bad (drama), and American Horror Story (horror). Watching tv may help you unwind if you have had a rough day or just want to relax for a little while. You can even invite over some friends and binge shows together and see how long you can last. Random- There is a lot of fun things you can during

summer break that aren't expensive at all. You can build a bonfire with family and friends on a cool night and roast marshmallows and try not to make too much of a mess. You can go camping at a near campground and see what the campground has to offer. Darby Valley is a campground that is placed right in Marysville. Some campgrounds host scavenger hunts. You can try fishing and maybe even catch your first fish if you haven't already.you can go fishing at Heart of Ohio Fish and Game Association Reservoir that's right in Marysville. Try to go out and find free local concerts and scream your heart out when you're at the show, or you can try to start gardening in your backyard. If you still don't know what to do, you can always check out Uptown Fridays in Marysville. The next night for Uptown Friday is May 18th from 6pm-10pm at Partners Park. You can go hang out with family and friends, have really good food and maybe even end up meeting new people that live right here in our community. Reporter Chloe Bolt

Pros and Cons of Hitting the Snooze Button Most people look at the snooze button as a guilty instinct for those weaklings who never wake up on time nor spring up on the first buzz. But that’s not all there is to it. We are all guilty of hitting the snooze button multiple times throughout the week; but is it helping us in the long run? It depends; everyone has their own relationship with the snooze button. For people who are slow to get up, the snooze is probably a healthy way to start the day. On the other hand, if you’re just looking for extra sleep, the mornings not the time for it and you should stay away from the snooze button. A study explained by the ASAPscience said that by hitting the snooze button, it can reset your brains sleep schedule. Which makes you more tired than you would have been if you had just gotten up the first time. Early rising Joe Weisenthal wrote, “as soon as you let yourself slip into sleeping in then all bets are off.” Also, hitting the snooze button everyday may not be directly ruin your health, but may affect your motivation. A sleep expert, Derek Haswell, says that “morning procrastination in the form of repeatedly hitting snooze can affect how you move through the day and how you relate to other people.” The worse effect of hitting the snooze is that it can be habit-forming. So, even if

you don’t dread your day, you still might hit the snooze because you’ve trained yourself to do so. On the other hand, a chief of the Division of Sleep and Chronobiology in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perelman School of Medicine, David Dinges, argues that sleeping in a little is affecting you and your body in a positive way. He says that getting “the extra ten minutes you get by snoozing can actually help to gently awaken the mind.” Another positive impact hitting the snooze every morning can be not only snoozing to get an extra ten minutes of sleep, but to give yourself ten minutes to lay and think or plan out the day. And, if you accidentally fall back asleep, your next alarm will get you back up and going. So while an occasional snooze is not a bad thing, it can hurt to ask yourself why you feel the need to hit it in the first place. Hopefully you can learn your good and bad sleeping habits in order to get the best night’s sleep (and get up!) everyday. Photo found on: www.masrawy.com Reporter Kami Carter

How Yoga Can Help You Every Day Are you struggling with stress? Anxiety? Feeling down? Or maybe, all of the above? It may be hard to believe, but there can be one solution to all of those problems: yoga. I know what you may be thinking, how will that change anything in my life? The truth is, it can’t. It can, however, change your outlook on life to help you cope with your surroundings.

“The purpose of yoga is to create strength, awareness, and harmony in both the mind and body,” Says Natalie Nevins (http://www.osteopathic.org), a certified yoga instructor in Hollywood, California. The purpose of yoga is to encourage the body to heal itself, which it is fully capable of doing. Its slow pace, patterned breathing, and promoted circulation throughout the body can help relieve stress and other problems, such as muscle pain.

“The relaxation techniques incorporated in yoga can lessen chronic pain, such as lower back pain, arthritis, headaches and carpal tunnel syndrome,” Nevins tells. “Yoga can also lower blood pressure and reduce insomnia.”

Mentally, yoga is a breath of fresh air. It allows your body to combat stress, which everyone deals with from day to day. Think about it, focus is demanded in every aspect of yoga. Flowing from position to position, remaining centered, and breathing when appropriate is consuming. Not to mention, yoga is made for finding peace within oneself.

“Stress can reveal itself in many ways, including back or neck pain, sleeping problems, headaches, drug abuse, and an inability to concentrate,” Nevins explains. “Yoga can be very effective in developing coping skills and reaching a more positive outlook on life.”

The best part? Anyone can try yoga. Just start at the appropriate level. The goal is not to achieve perfection, but to battle personal goals and to improve yourself. Marysville High School offers a yoga course that doubles as a gym credit. If you’re unable to take a class, there are apps (such as pocket yoga or yoga studio) that you can download onto your phone to practice it yourself.

Physically, yoga can do a lot. It increases flexibility and strength by offering challenging positions. Like any physical action, it requires one to push oneself. It helps keep a balanced metabolism and boosts energy, which will overall improve the daily struggle to stay awake. It can help with weight loss, which can be important to people who want to slim down a size or two in a healthy manner. Overall balance also increases due to the constant focus required to keep your body in each position.

Ohio Central Cardinal Track runners, jumpers, and throwers have been competing since spring started, but every athlete looks forward to The big event of there sport. Basketball players want to be in the NBA one day, and get the ring. Football players want to be in the NFL, and soon enough make it to the superbowl. High school track athletes are after OCC’s which is a huge conference meet at one track with the best teams throughout the state to compete. This event is much like a track invitational where multiple teams compete at one place, the difference is schools bring the best of the best to OCC’s to claim a title. OCC’s took place 3rd of May following the other half of the events on Saturday May 10th.

I would encourage everyone to join in on the OCC experience, come and support ar get involved with Track & field. OCC’s are the big event just like the super bowl and NBA finals. OCC’s gives a track team an ultimate goal to reach throughout the whole season.

www.marysvillejt.com Reporter, Tyshondra Russell

www.marysvillejt.com OCC’s consist of prelims and finals to see who places, and who comes out as champs. OCC’s stand for Ohio Central Cardinal, Ohio’s biggest Track & Field convention. OCC’s prelims are the actual events and finals are the best athletes from the prelims. Usually in OCC’s there is one heat of every race, including hurdles, open meter runs, and relays. There is first place second place, and third place for overall team. For individual events there are six places. If you are the first three in your event you’re labeled all OCC’s. Athletes involved in track want to be in the OCC’s lineup because the actual event can claim you at spot for districts which if you perform well in place top three you will move on to regionals. Placing first in your event at regionals will grant you a place to compete at states.

Marvel Vs DC DC Comics and Marvel Comics are the two biggest names in the comic book industry in America. Founded in 1934, DC Comics is one of the largest and most popular companies operating in the market for American comic books and related media. It is the publishing division of DC Entertainment Inc., a subsidiary company of Warner Bros. Entertainment, a unit of Time Warner. Marvel Comics is owned by Marvel Entertainment, Inc., a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company. It was founded in 1939. Super Heroes on each side Regarding characters, in the DC universe a superpower was never seen as anything but a gift. Superman was a fantasy for kids about attaining ultimate power. He was the strongest being on the earth! He could fly! He only had one weakness and it was a substance that couldn’t even be found on the earth! For DC characters attaining a superpower was always a gift. It made you a better person and it didn’t just give you more power it let you reach power. No one was stronger than Superman. No one was faster than the Flash. Superpowers made you unstoppable! Meanwhile, in the Marvel universe, the Fantastic Four which is a fictional superhero team appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The Fantastic Four was the first superhero team created by editor/co-plotter Stan Lee and artist/co-plotter Jack Kirby. The group attain powers that scare people and make them look like freaks in the world. The scene where they realize they have changed is more akin to a horror movie than a power fantasy. Johnny Storm is on fire, Reed Richards’ body is seemingly collapsing on a molecular level and can’t see his wife Susan Storm because she’s turned invisible, then there’s Ben Grimm, who has become nothing short of a monster, a fact that will haunt him for the rest of his life. These were real people dealing with real issues in a real New York. They behave as a family would; They fight and make up. They had money problems to worry about. And they had these messed up superpowers to deal with. The notion that a superpower didn’t automatically make you an unstoppable force for good but could actually be a burden. Radiation made the Hulk the strongest being in the Marvel universe but it also turned him into a monster that the world feared until they knew he wanted to help. Daredevil got an awe-

some radar sense but he had to sacrifice his sight. And then the greatest of all Marvel creation’s put the reader into the book. Spider-man was a teenage boy! He was the reader! An outcast at school. Lonely. He became Spider-man and lived the power fantasy. The reader could identify with Peter Parker on a level far beyond cool superpowers. But both DC and Marvel characters are always fun to read/learn about. And there are too many Marvel and DC superheroes/characters to talk about so here are the main superheroes. Marvel: Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Luke Cage, Black Widow, Daredevil, Captain America, Wolverine. DC: Aquaman, Shazam, The Flash, Catwoman, Nightwing, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman, Green Arrow. There are many differences between the two comics. Now it’s time to decide… Are you Team Marvel or DC? Reporter Ryan Moore

What You Should Know Before Graduation Graduation day is almost upon us and as a senior I must say, it is absolutely terrifying. School has been a part of our entire lives and now we’re going to leave an environment that we’ve become very used to. Life after graduation is new and daunting, so what do we need to know or expect? This article will explore important advice and tips about life after graduation. First of all, you should know that not all friendships last forever. A lot of the friends that you made in highschool might not stay in contact with you and you may drift apart. That’s okay because it is common for friends to come and go. You will make lifelong friendships but many will fade away due to circumstance. It is important to build healthy friendships so make sure to put in the effort to keep that. Another tip, don’t peak in high school. When someone says that high school was some of the best years of their life, that may not be a good thing. Try to make the best out of your future and don’t stop trying after high school. You should also learn how to budget. You need to be much more responsible with your finances once you gain your independence, otherwise you may find yourself in deep trouble. It is never good to have a large amount of debt so try to reduce how much you use a credit card. A college degree is also not a guarantee that you’ll get a job. Sadly, just graduating from college will not automatically make someone want to hire you. You need to have skills that are used outside of a school environment in order to live in the professional world. When deciding on a career, you should choose what you believe is best for you. If you want to be a nurse but other people are trying to push you to be an engineer, don’t listen to them. You will be more happy with a career that you wanted than one that someone else decided on for you. Remember; it’s okay to change the path you’ve set yourself on later in life. It is never to late make a positive change in your life. If you don’t think that the major that you are pursuing is not right for you, you have the ability to pursue something different. Most people don’t know exactly what they want to do straight out of high school so you’re not alone if you haven’t decided yet. But once you find your passion don’t give it up for

Image from gadshop.com a shadow dream. A shadow dream is something related to what you dream of doing but it is only a fraction of what you really want. If you want to be a doctor, don’t just settle for being a medical assistant. If you want to be a writer, don’t settle for working in a cubicle at a publishing firm. It is your life and you should do everything you can to make it the life you want to live. Some advice from Mrs. Bise: Try to travel and explore the world when you’re young and unencumbered. Also, don’t sign up for a credit card on campus just because you get a free T-shirt. It is easier to rack up more debt with one of those cards. Advice from Anjelica Lacasa: Have a positive mindset and don’t be afraid to push yourself to your full potential. Emily Wigglesworth Advanced Reporter
