Welcome Stephanie of Fancy That Design House You’ve heard the saying that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree? That’s certainly the case for new Moda designer, Stephanie Sliwinski, whose love of all things vintage is a family legacy. Stephanie’s grandfather was mayor of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, a town about 40 minutes north of where Stephanie lives today. While mayor, there was a push to modernize the town but he held strong, believing that a gas station had no place on the town’s picturesque main street. Today, out-of-towners visit Cedarburg for its oldfashioned charm. It’s a perspective that resonates with Stephanie. “I love to walk around antique stores and flea markets if I’m in a creative rut,” she says. “I’ve become the person in the family that everyone gives their old stuff to.”
Flora and Faith That “old stuff,” along with nature and a deep faith, inspired Songbook, Stephanie’s first line of fabric. Flowers, leaves, and affirming messages form the basis of the collection, which includes panels with inspirational banners that are perfect for fussy cutting. “I incorporate hymns in my work because I love the stories behind them” says Stephanie. “The composers often experienced a tragedy before writing them and the hymns are about a faith that’s so deeply rooted. They speak a truth about my life.”
Backyard Bounty Inspiration also comes from the Wisconsin countryside and her own backyard, where Stephanie grows vegetables and flowers and raises chickens. “I add to my garden beds every year and we always have fresh eggs on the counter,” says Stephanie, who enjoys using her home-grown goods to cook healthy meals for her family of three boys, ages 11, 10, and 8, and husband Chad, an artist who works in product development.
Stephanie met Chad during the 12 years she worked as a graphic designer. After marrying, and with a goal of working from home once she had children, Stephanie shifted to part time at the office and opened her Etsy shop, creating and selling art prints that reflected her values. “My art is faith-based, on trend, and I have a goal of making people smile,” she says. Eight years ago, she named her business Fancy That Design House and took it full time.
A Fondness for Fabric A love of textiles, especially vintage linens, gave Stephanie the idea to translate her art prints to tea towels and their success led to her aspirations to create fabric. This past year she took a class on how to design a fabric repeat. “I fell in love with the process—it’s like solving a puzzle,” she says. She is delighted to connect with Moda and though her sewing skills are basic at this point, she plans to learn to quilt someday. For now, learning to quilt may have to take a back seat to raising chickens and boys. Stephanie involves her sons in the garden and encourages them to participate in breadmaking sessions. Her parents come by every Friday to help with the boys’ lessons—they’re being home-schooled during the pandemic—and Stephanie cooks breakfast goodies for them all. She continues to create and license her art, which appears on calendars, wall hangings, mugs and more. alking through flea markets, you'll find me gathering sweet floral teacups, handkerchiefs
and aprons in one arm, and vintage books - often hymnals - in the other. Songbook was inspired by a love of old songs that stand the test of time and lean into a deeply rooted faith. It is my hope that the panels put a song in your heart, and that you find yourself whistling and humming as you work with the collection. You'll discover florals, petals and leaves in muted tones with unexpected pops of colors woven into the group. Like the hymns, I hope the pieces created from Songbook are passed on for generations to come.

Founded in 2008 by Jennie Rivers, we are a small team of hugely talented illustrators working in-house. Each designer represents their own unique range of skills and techniques. s there anything cozier than curling up with a flannel quilt when the cold wind blows? For my family, our favorite go-to cuddling quilts are flannel and brushed homespuns. Many of my cotton quilts get
flannel backings to increase the snuggle factor. For these homespuns, I had fun digging through vintage quilts, antique scraps, and even a few of Robert’s old flannel shirts for inspiration. I
take a walk every day, it’s my time to reflect, ponder, exercise and simply clear out the cobwebs in my head. It’s a bit of mobile meditation as it clarifies my thoughts.
During one of my walks, I was musing over the colours to choose for this collection. Rounding the corner from the beach to the lake, I saw that nature had chosen them for me. The blue-green of the water, the greys of wet leaves laying on the sandy beach, and the frothy foam at the water’s edge are a soothing palette of subtle contrasts that creates a timeless range that will coordinate with most decors. Using a slubby-thread to create a stripe adds a unique textural element to some of the Lakeside Towelings. The 18” finished width is ideally suited for table runners and placements, throw pillows, tote bags and home accessories. The six towelings that come in a 60” width work for quilts, quilt backings and accessories.

orn at a very young age, collage artist Shari Jenkins was kidnapped by coyotes and raised on a ranch near the Bear Paw Mountains
southeast of Big Sandy, Montana. At the age of 50 and still undecided as to what she wanted to be when she grew up, she realized a decision of some sort was necessary: have a mid-life crisis or do something creative. She chose the latter. Combining her collection of antique photos with vintage ephemera, buttons, flowers, leaves, barbed wire, fabric, bullets, maps, doorknobs (you name it, she’s scanned it!), Shari began digitally formatting collage art designs, many of which have more than 100 elements or layers! Shari's love of cowgirls is a prevalent theme in her work, as is her great appreciation of Western history… and her often times unconventional sense of humor. Each piece of her art contains a message for the viewer, sometimes rather obvious – and sometimes not! Shari is “a self-taught artist with a good eye.” Her journey to create has taken some interesting twists and turns… but don’t take our word for it. Check. Out. Her. Art!

egency Somerset Blues is the latest collection inspired by Christopher’s travels through the British Isles, and the spectacular antique quilts he finds. Based on fabrics from two antique quilts from west of England, the prints date to the late 18th Century, and are named for towns and places in Somerset. Wellington, a French, medium-small allover floral dating to 1790, is beautifully complimented by Glastonbury, a medium-scale floral with birds from India, circa 1770-1780. Colored in Parma Gray, India Yellow, Midnight Blue and Shadow White, Somerset Blues is traditional and timeless.

et's spice it up!! Yup, I mean with flavorful colors to add some new variety to THATCHED! Twenty-five new colors get to join the group for a bigger offering of colorful goodness. Green
Curry, Masala Spice and Smoked Paprika bring in those warm and spicy hues with a little appetizer of Olive and Toast. Feeling sweet? Then Honeycomb or Chocolate Bar are for you. Can you tell I was hungry when naming these colors? It's not all about spices, but I do imagine a lovely table set with a centerpiece of lovely blues and purples included with the colors of Pansy, Forget Me Not, Bluebell, Dutch Iris and Periwinkle. And to round it out, this group also has some nice neutrals of Washed Linen and Sand Castle. Add in a bright white-onwhite – that’s Blizzard – and the Chalkboard Scribbles that remind me of Heather in reverse- a contrasty white and dark grey that might be my new favorite. Okay, I really can't pick one because I love all colors! I hope you do too and enjoy this new mix of Thatched basics!

June through August 2021 – Sampler Spree QAL Susan Ache @yardgrl60 is a social media influencer whose followers want to make the kind of quilts she does. Over the course of twelve weeks, she’s going to share how she works with color, mixes blocks, and creates projects using her “let’s just have some fun and make blocks” approach. Susan will be working week by week in different colors. Create your own starter bundles by color to sell during this event.
