Plan Administration

See revised Implementation element in Attachment G of Planning Board Resolution No.14-10 This section of the chapter lays out guidance for the Planning Department to maintain consistency between Plan 2035 and the other ongoing county planning and program initiatives. Information regarding how various tools can be utilized to implement these policies is also included. This chapter is focused on how the policies and strategies identified in this plan are to be implemented to reach the goals set forth. The Administration procedures laid out here will help the county stay the course and maintain consistency between all land use-related efforts across the county. This section is meant to provide guidance for how Plan 2035 will interact with other existing and future plans, and how various implementation tools can be utilized to realize success.

Future Planning Activities Because of the intensive planning of the last ten years, future planning activities demand a new way of being updated. While conditions both on the ground and economically may change, policy recommendations may still be viable. A total rewrite of a master or sector plan might not be necessary. An evaluation or study prior to determining if a new master plan would identify the major issues and next steps.

Amendments and Updates

Plan Administration

Minor amendments to Plan 2035 may be warranted if there are major policy changes or new infrastructure planned, such as transit projects. Master plans may amend Plan 2035.

Consistency Future planning documents that are prepared for Prince George’s County should be consistent with the overall land use pattern set forth in Plan 2035. All new master plans, studies, and county programs should be reviewed in the light of the policies and strategies of this General Plan.

Civic Engagement Implementing Plan 2035 and other plans is only viable if the public is actively engaged and participates in the planning and execution process. The policies in this General Plan must be supported through continued public engagement. Residents, businesses, and other stakeholders must continue to be active participants in any project early in the process in order to ensure buy-in and understanding of the intent and purpose.
