WELCOME

DIANE DAHLMANN // MizzouRec Director

Greetings, and welcome to the world of MizzouRec Services & Facilities. The purpose of this special publication is to provide you with an overview of all that MizzouRec Services and Facilities has to offer to you. While it might be easy to be dazzled by the award-winning, best in class MU Student Rec Complex, there is so much more to MizzouRec that you should know. For example, MizzouRec employs over 400 Mizzou students to work as facility leads, member service hosts, officials, groundskeeping assistants, maintenance & repair specialists, photographers, lifeguards and more. Each staff member selected becomes a member of Team Mizzou, our nationally-recognized student staffing and development program. This program is highly selective because MizzouRec is a top-choice for campus employment. Other great features of MizzouRec are Stankowski Field & Track located on campus and the MU Rec Trail that winds around the arena and connects to all sorts of interesting paths. Tennis anyone? We have that, too, with championship courts available at the Mizzou Tennis Center. And if you are seeking out a quiet place to relax or study during the day, surprisingly enough MizzouRec is a destination location for students in the know. Be sure to explore all that MizzouRec has to offer and visit us often!

LOCKERS&SECURITY ALL OVER THE PLACE // on almost all the levels

Safety and security aren’t matters we take lightly. That’s why we have strategically-positioned security cameras throughout our facility that closely monitor entrances, exits, and public-use spaces, as well as areas of high theft. But we need you to do your part by keeping your stuff safe and secure with one of our many locker options.

ROTHWELL CLUB Rothwell Club includes amenities such as private lockers, towel service, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, mouthwash and hair dryers. Rothwell Club locker rooms are complete with televisions and lounge areas that offer members extra comfort before and after workouts. A portion of the monthly Rothwell Club membership fee is a taxdeductible gift to the Team Mizzou Scholarship Fund.

GENERAL LOCKER ROOMS MizzouRec members have daily access to the men’s and women’s locker rooms, which provide clean and convenient spaces to change clothes, shower and store belongings. Members can also rent a locker in this space for a fee. Our locker rooms offer more than 150 lockers each, as well as handicap accessible showers, bathroom facilities and swimsuit dryers. Both locker rooms are located on the first level near Brewer Station, with second entrances on the aquatic corridor side.

JUNGLE CONCOURSE LOCKERS Outside the Jungle Gym is a bank of daily-use lockers where you can store your belongings during your workout.

JUNGLE GYM LOCKERS Inside the Jungle Gym you’ll find 96 convenience lockers you can use during your workout. These are daily lockers though, so be sure to remove your belongings before you leave.

HISTORY

HISTORY

LOOKING BACK // a longstanding campus tradition

The Mizzou Student Experience is enhanced with MizzouRec Services & Facilities and the awardwinning MU Student Recreation Complex.

This sprawling facility featuring nearly 300,000 square feet is recognized as the nation’s best in the collegiate market. What makes the MU Student Recreation Complex unique is its incredible connection to campus history and traditions and intentional design. Rothwell Gymnasium, the first part of the complex, was built in 1905. In 1929, construction began on connecting Brewer Fieldhouse to the gym. Then in 1989, the Student Rec Center Addition opened. This trio of connected facilities was home to Tiger Athletics, Physical Education and Intramural Sports and, eventually, MizzouRec Services & Facilities.

Student voices sounded out loud and clear in the late ‘90s about needing more recreation space. In demand on campus were more aquatic options, better locker rooms, air conditioning, and larger fitness and group exercise spaces. In 2001, MU students held a referendum to increase the student recreation activity fee to expand and renovate Rothwell-Brewer-Rec Center Addition. What you see on campus today is the result of the student voices: The MU Student Recreation Complex. While modern in design and updated to the latest standards, MizzouRec retains the historical flavor of Ol’ Mizzou. Each space has been intentionally designed to reinforce a sense of place for our students. That’s why MizzouRec is the go-to campus destination for students and the best part of their Mizzou day.
