Xi'an A Last 1st of October took place Xi'an Autumn Open 2011 at Xi'an City in Shaanxi Province, China. There were forty-four competitors, most of them came from Xi'an, there were also five french speedcubers. In fact it was the 9th WCA cube competition in Xi'an City. The competition attract cubers to get together and spend a good time, through the cube and the hobby that we have in common all of them made new friends at the competition. Participation Card Targeta de participación Haowei Fan (China) won the Rubik's cube category with a best time of 8.59 and a great sub-10 average of 9.89. Fan also won 5x5 cube, megaminx and master magic events. Weifeng Cheng, also from China, won 4x4, pyraminx, square-1 and 6x6 cube events. Then Mulun Ying, the boy who hold the chinese national record (average with 9.47s), won 2x2 and 3x3 one-handed events. The winner of 3x3 blindfolded was Yuhui Xu, 5x5 blindfolded Zhizhe Liang, and finally the french speedcuber Gaël Dusser won the rubik's clock event.

Autumn Open 2011 El pasado 1 de octubre tuvo lugar el abierto de otoño de Xi'an City en la provincia de Shaanxi, China. La competición contó con cuarenta y cuatro participantes, la mayoria de ellos provinientes de la misma ciudad de Xi'an, aun que también participaron cinco speedcubers franceses. Este fue el noveno abrierto que se realiza en la ciudad de Xi'an oficiado por la WCA. La competición atrajo a los participantes a pasar un buen tiempo juntos, unidos por una afición en Haowei Fan (China) ganó la categoría de Rubik's cube con un mejor tiempo de 8.59 y una gran media sub 10 de 9.89. Fan también ganó las categorías de 5x5, megaminx y master magic. Weifeng Cheng, también de China, ganó en 4x4, pyraminx, square-1 y 6x6. Mulun Ying, el chico que posee el record (average) nacional de China en 3x3 ganó las categorías de 2x2 y 3x3 con una mano.
El ganador de la categoría 3x3 a ciegas fue Yuhui Xu, en 5x5 a ciegas Zhizhe Liang, y finalmente el participante francés, Gaël Dusser ganó la categoría de clock.

World Michał Pleskowicz won the World Rubik's Cube Championship 2011 with an average of 8.65 seconds. Rowe Hessler finished second (9.56) and Feliks Zemdegs finished third (9.58). Competition wise: I was hoping for a 5x5 BLD success, sub-40 3x3 BLD single and to beat my previous official multi BLD score of 14/17.

Rodrigo Septién When and why did you started with Rubik's cube? I started in December 2007. On a birthday of a friend, I took a cube with another friend and we tried to solve them. He did it the first but I tried it a lot of times and finally I did.
¿How many puzzles do you have and which one is your favorite? Ufff. I think that I have less of 30, I' am not a collector. My favortie is, no doubt, 4x4 How much time do you spend on it? (a week) Now almost no time, perhaps one or half hour. But at the begining, just after beat NR 3x3 at Murcia Open 2009, ca I spent like 4 or 5 hours a day. What is your challenge related to the cube? Well ... At this point, keep having fun when I'm solving a cube and at championships. I think that have a challange in terms of time, at the moment is something a little surrealistic. The current level is very high and I can not dedicate the time to be at that level. After 2 years competing I am more than proud of my time and have achieved an European record in a main category to reach the biggest challenge was never expected to achieve. What do your friends / family about it? My friends accompanied me to championships, especially when I started competing, and my family has gone for me where the championship has been in Madrid. Overall I love them all.

You live in a country with a quite important rubiks cube culture (many forums, websites, people who want to learn) how do you feel being the champion of Spain? What does it mean to you? Winning my first championship of Spain was very exciting for me and not only by the circumstances in which the final end, which made it even more exciting for everyone.

It was something I wanted to get since I started with speedcubing, like everyone else. I do not think my times were the best, either I won both championships (2010 one was especially difficult), but I think that I were able to control my nerves better than rivals and for this reason I become champion. Thinking only with win everytingh is not good, you have to know and be prepared to lose. Even whenyou think you're the best, you can lose. In short, the main thing is to have fun, do not let prepotency win you and do not let neither do not let you down defeat. What do you like and dislike the most about speedcubing in Spain? What I like the most is undoubtedly the people with whom I had the pleasure of emet in each championship. The thing I dislike the most... I want more championships in Madrid !!!!!
Who do you consider your main rivals speedcubers and in which category? Difficult question ... during the first year my main rival was Alejandro Riveiro was certainly in almost every category. Each championship was a healthy bite to see who got more medals. From the second year ... 3x3 category Alejandro Aguado has been the main rival for a long time, practically turns on the podium since the Portugal Open 2009. I can not forget either Jorge Morata (at Square one and OH), Marcos Ameijeiras (In Square One and Pyraminx) and finally Guillermo Conde, who has been my biggest rival in two of the most important categories in which they competed: 4x4 5x5. ¿Cuándo y por qué empezaste con el cubo? Empecé en diciembre de 2007. En un cumpleaños de una amiga,un amigo y yo cogimos dos cubos que había en su casa y nos picamos a ver si lo conseguiamos resolver. El lo consiguió antes, pero yo me piqué bastante más una vez lo consegí. ¿Cuántos puzzles tienes y cuál és tu favorito? Puff...no creo que llegue a 30, no soy aficionado a coleccionar. Mi favorito, sin duda, es el 4x4. ¿Cuánto tiempo le dedicas? (a la semana) Pues ahora prácticamente nada, quizás una o media hora. Pero antes, justo después de batir el NR de 3x3 en el Open de Murcia 2009, fue cuando más tiempo le dediqué, llegando incluso a 4 o 5 horas diarias... ¿Cuál es tu reto (objetivo) relacionado con el cubo? Bueno... a estas alturas, seguir pasándomelo bien cuando resuelvo un cubo y voy a un campeonato. Pensar en un reto en cuanto a tiempos en este momento es algo un poco subrealista. El nivel actual es muy alto y ya no puedo dedicarle el tiempo necesario para estar a ese nivel. Después de 2 años compitiendo estoy más que orgulloso de mis tiempos y haber conseguido un record europeo en una categoría principal fue alcanzar el mayor reto que nunca esperaba conseguir. ¿Qué piensan tu amigos/familia de ello? Amigos mios me han acompañado a algún campeonato, sobre todo cuando empecé a competir; y mi familia ha ido a verme en los que ha habido en Madrid. En general les encanta a todos. Vives en un pais dónde hay una cultura de rubiks cube bastante importante (muchos foros, paginas web, gente que quiere aprender ¿como te sientes siendo el campeón de españa? ¿que significa para ti? Ganar mi primer campeonato de España
fue algo muy emocionante para mi y no solo por las circunstancias en las que terminó la final, que lo hicieron aun más emocionante para todos. Fue algo que quise conseguir desde que empecé a cubear, como todos. No creo que fuera el mejor en tiempos en ninguno de los dos campeonatos que gané (sobre todo en el 2010), pero quizás el saber controlar los nervios mejor que los rivales me llevó a ser campeón. Querer ganar a toda costa no te lleva a ninguna parte, hay que saber perder y estar preparado para que aunque tú creas que eres el mejor, también puedes perder. En definitiva, lo principal es divertirse, que no se te suban a la cabeza las victorias y no te hundan las derrotas. ¿Qué es lo que más te gusta y qué es lo que menos del speedcubing en españa? Lo que más me gusta sin duda es la gente con la que he tenido el placer de coincidir en cada campeonato y lo de menos... más campeonatos en Madrid!!!!! ¿A que speedcubers consideras tus principales rivales y en que categorias? Pregunta dificil... durante el primer año que he competí mi principal rival fue sin duda Alejandro Riveiro en casi todas las categorías. Cada campeonato era un pique sano a ver quien conseguía mas medallas. A partir del segundo año... en la categoría de 3x3 Alejandro Aguado ha sido el principal rival durante mucho tiempo, prácticamente turnandonos en el podio desde el Portugal Open 2009. No me puedo olvidar tampoco de Jorge Morata (en Square one y OH), Marcos Ameijeiras (En Square one y Pyraminx) y finalmente Guillermo Conde, que ha sido mi máximo rival en dos de las categorías más importantes en las que competí: 4x4 y 5x5.
