Box office opens for ticket sales on Saturday September 27th. GUILD HALL 158 Main Street East Hampton 324-0806 Mon 9/1 – Sun 11/30 ARTlink ARTlink integrates the visual, literary and performing arts into the school curriculum through student tours and workshops, strengthening the relationships between Guild Hall, the students, their families and the community. This program is important for numerous reasons: Guild Hall is a unique educational resource; art has the power to expand imaginations and observation skills; through art, students can gain insight into today’s world as well as the history of other cultures; through Guild Hall exhibitions, students can explore our contemporary art community as well as its rich history; we can offer an opportunity for students to stretch their creativity with hands-on art, music or literary activities; and together we can make a connection between the visual and performing arts, classroom curriculum as per the New York State Learning Standards. Exhibition tours are designed in combination with teachers and administrators, or are based on an interactive discussion between students and artists/docents. Parents are invited to participate and discuss new concepts. Specific focus materials, age appropriate discussions and follow up projects are planned for each individual class. For example, with a recent exhibition, "Hamptons Gardens: A 350 Year Legacy," children learned about growth and planting, landscape design, local history, early photography, sculpture gardens, nature’s symmetry, Realism, and Impressionism. For younger children, our Andy Warhol exhibitions allowed them to explore color, common themes in Pop Art, local history, and poetry. This program is three-fold: an introduction to the works in the classroom, an on-site tour of the exhibition, and a follow-up workshop which would integrate the visual arts into course work. Students were also treated to a workshop with poet Scott Chaskey, who workshopped poems and sketches with Montauk School children at the Warhol Preserve, and off-site component of Guild Hall's ARTlink program. ARTlink offers an opportunity for students to stretch their creativity beyond the classroom instruction with hands-on visual art, music, or literary activities. Using the visual and performing arts, we are making a connection between students in the classroom and their families and the broader community. Call 631 324-0806 for information.
